MON, 4 JUN KATAKLYSMOS (FLOOD FAIR - DELUGE) “Kataklysmos” is a religious and popular feast celebrated only in Cyprus. “Kataklysmos”, which means flood, is found in the book of Genesis and in the Greek myth of Deukalion. In both cases it refers to the destruction by flood of almost all-living creatures in order to give birth to a new and moral generation. The ceremonies last for a few days and take place in all sea side towns. Celebrations include various games, performances of folk dances, swimming competitions, boat races, competitions of popular songs known as “tsattista” and the most popular custom, which is the throwing of water to one another. Tourists and locals alike can view the sights of Larnaka from a different angle by renting a ‘City Cruiser’ biking tour. The special passenger bikes - which look a little like buggy carts with pedals - are already popular in other European destinations where riders (with very strong legs!) cycle with their passengers in the back enjoying the sights. The bikes are an environmentally friendly way to travel as they use a solar-powered battery, meet all European safety standards and are operated by trained riders who know first-aid. They are also suitable for people with disabilities. There are three tours on offer: The City Centre Tour (which takes in the town centre with all its shops), The Arts and Culture Tour (which takes in the workshops and galleries of Larnaka), and a Historical Tour Around the Town (which takes in the museums, churches and ancient monuments). The walking tour Strolling around Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) aims to provide an overall picture of Pafos and how Pafos Town Centre evolved and developed from the late Byzantine and Medieval times to what as it was called until recently Κtima. The Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) is associated with the local everyday life of the population. For the Pafians though, Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) has so much more to it…. Through historic references, linked with some very important historic phases including Medieval, Ottoman, British and modern times; one will ‘walk’ into the past but will also get better acquainted with the commercial centre of Pafos.
