(2013) Personal Interests and Career Goals Having grown up on a farm in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, nature has always captured my interest. I pursued this whilst at school, by entering the National Eskom Expo for Young Scientists (2009). After winning the Provincial Round of the competition and qualifying for the national round in Pretoria, I was afforded the opportunity to travel to Sweden through the Dr Derek Gray Memorial Award and whilst in Sweden I attended the ceremony for the awarding of the Nobel Prizes. I was a finalist for the African Leadership Academy Innovation Prize. As a result of this I applied for an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation scholarship. I did not get the scholarship, but did make the final round of interviews. I am hard-working, diligent and get along well with other people. I enjoy a challenge and would like to pursue a career as a geologist and make a positive contribution to society. Other Interests I enjoy travelling and running and believe that a healthy lifestyle leads to a healthy mind. Races that I have taken part in include several half-marathons.
