Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) hasdeveloped a poly-herbal medicine by the trade name of for the treatment of Leucoderma.It was announced by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar ina written reply to Rajya Sabha. The medicine was developed byHaldwani (Uttarakhand) based scientists of Defence Bio-EnergyResearch (DIBER), which is a laboratory of DRDO under the aegis
of the Union Defence Ministry.Lukoskin is an ointment which has seven ingredients of plants having properties such asanti-blister, skin photo sensitizer, anti-irritation, wound healing, anti-septic and coppersupplementing properties.DRDO has transferred technology of the herbal product to private firm AIMILPharmaceutical Private Limited for commercial production and marketing. This privatefirm will introduce it in market.
About LeucodermaLeukoderma (also known as vitiligo) is a cutaneous acquired condition causing a rareskin disease which results white patches on skin. This condition is caused due to loss ofpigmentation of the skin that may occur after any number of inflammatory skinconditions such as burns, postdermabrasion, intralesional steroid injections etc. It isneither a infectious nor contagious disease but largely a cosmetic problem.Tags: Diseases • DRDO • Pharmaceuticals
