The Union Ministry of Power has considered a proposal in making 24 degrees celsius as

mandatory default setting and labeling of air conditioners within few months. It has been

planned after six months campaign launched to promote energy efficiency in the area of

air-conditioning.

The campaign was launched on voluntary basis to increase awareness and encourage

consumers to adopt the guidelines. It will result in substantial energy savings and also

reduce greenhouse gas emission.

Southern Railways imposes penalty of Rs.2,000 for taking selfie in front oftrain

Southern Railways will impose a fine of Rs.2,000 on passengers who take a selfie in front

of trains at railway stations or while standing on the footboard. People found repeating

the offence will be imprisoned for six months. The initiative aims to cut down on selfie-

related train mishaps which have grown recently.

India has lowered the limits on the export of certain essential commodities such as

potatoes, onions, and eggs to the Maldives, according to a recent notification, in a move

that sparked reports of possible food shortages in the Maldives.

This move, though ostensibly based on a new method of calculation, comes against the

backdrop of a recent heightening of tensions between the two countries.

‘Delhi Metro network set to become 5th largest in world’:

The over 11-km Mundka-Bahadurgarh section of Delhi Metro’s Green Line, connecting the

capital to Haryana, was on Sunday inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the gathering through videoconferencing, the Prime Minister said the

expanding Metro network in Delhi would soon be the world’s fifth largest after Beijing,

London, Shanghai and New York.

22nd Sindhu Darshan Festival (SDF) started in J&K

The 22nd edition of Sindhu Darshan Festival (SDF) started on the bank of Indus River in

Leh district of Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

The annual fest is organised by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti and Ladakh Phandey

Tsogspa (Leh). It has been inaugurated by RSS General Secretary Bhaiya Ji Joshi. It

aimed at national integration, communal harmony and national pride.

Gujarat CM launches Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY)

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched the Rs 870-crore pilot project of

Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY). Under the Yojana, farmers can generate electricity using

solar energy and sell the surplus to the electric grid. As per the new scheme, a farmer

signing up for it will have to spend only 5 % amount of the total expenditure for installing

the solar project (including solar panels and inverters).

The central and state govts will bear 60% of share of total cost of the project and 35%

share will be repaid by farmers in 7 years period.

Haryana village 1st to pass No Toilet, No Bride resolution:

Haryana’s Godikan village panchayat has passed a ‘No Toilet, No Bride’ resolution,

becoming the first panchayat in the country to do so. According to the resolution, girls

from Godikan will not be married off in houses without a toilet.

Mohanpura Irrigation Project launched in Madhya Pradesh:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Mohanpura Irrigation Project in Rajgarh

district in Madhya Pradesh. The total outlay of the project is Rs 3,866-crore. It includes a

dam and a canal system. The project will facilitate irrigation of agricultural land in

Rajgarh district. It will also provide drinking water to villages in the area.

Haryana makes use of LED bulbs mandatory in govt offices by 15 Aug

As per directions of the Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, all halogen,

sodium bulbs and tube lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs and tube

lights. The use of incandescent lamps and purchase of sodium vapour lamps by

government sector, government aided sector, boards and corporations and autonomous

bodies have already been banned.

AIIB to invest $200 mn in infra fund

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will pump $200 million into the National

Investment & Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). The funding was announced by economic affairs

attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The annual London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) opens today with the red-carpet world

premiere of Hollywood-cum-Bollywood starrer “Love Sonia”, a film by the Oscar-

nominated producer of “Life Of Pi”, David Womark.

This year, there is also a special cinematic tribute to Bollywood star Sridevi, who died

suddenly in February, with a screening of her 1987 box-office hit “Mr India”.

Another tribute screening is UK-based filmmaker Sangeeta Dutta’s docu-feature “Bird of

Dusk”, in memory of the late Rituparno Ghosh.
