SoundtrackMy interpretation of this song is that the singer depends on this
person to enjoy his life. He would be pretty much lifeless without this person. Without his person, he would suffer from the withdrawal of a part of his life. This song to me shows how Shmuel feels about Bruno. Although unsaid, I feel now that Bruno has come into Shmuel’s life, he has a friend and his life has become worth living again. When he hadn’t met Bruno, he was suffering the Nazi prisoner life which was hard and pointless but now he had a friend he and something worthwhile to look forward to in his day. I think that without Bruno in Shmuel’s, he would once again become a regular prisoner who simply sits on the dirt floor staring into space feeling worthless and trapped. This song also explains how Bruno feels about Shmuel. Since moving to Out-with (Auschwitz), Bruno had hated it. Then he had discovered Shmuel the boy on the other side of the fence. He became friends with Shmuel and didn’t hate life at Out-with (Auschwitz) anymore; instead, he had now had something to look forward to. Life had became more worthwhile for Bruno had a friend now. If he moved away and lost Shmuel, it would have been hard for him to live the rest of his life.
