Care more than others think is wise. Risk more than others think is safe. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.

Excellence is . . . exceeding the goal, giving better service than is required, delivering our best effort to whatever we are doing.

Excellence is . . . the quality success - minded people seek in everything they do.

Are We "Our Own Worst Enemy?"

Why do we get stuck just doing our job? Why do we sleepwalk through life? Why do we not pay attention to the "wake - up" calls? Are we chasing our dreams or just putting in our time? Are we chasing our dreams or working on other people's

goals? How can we put more joy and excitement into our life?

"People are always blaming their circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want. If they don't find them, they make them." ~ George Bernard Shaw

Blocks to Loving Work

She feels unappreciated for all the work she does.

She feels that with all the headquarter policies she is merely a robot.

She enjoyed her work during the "good ole days." Things "just aren't like they use to be."

She doesn't enjoy dealing with all the personnel issues of managing others.

She has excellent technical skills, but struggles with working relationships.

Blocks to Loving Work

He would retire . . . but doesn't have enough funds in his retirement account.

He would really like to be a stay at home parent.

Since so many people have been terminated because of reorganization and downsizing, he feels no “sense of community”.

He enjoys working in the field but dislike the confines and tasks associated with the desk job.

He enjoys the technical tasks but doesn’t like dealing with customers.

Page 42: Creating Excellence For Yourself & Your Organization

What If This Was Your Situation?

I have no respect for the boss.

I like only a portion of the job.

I don't know the organization's mission or my job priorities.

I need assistance to understand and complete the work.(I feel abandoned by my boss.)

I am in a dead - end position.

I underestimate my own abilities.

I would apply for the promotion, but I am uncomfortable with public speaking.

Page 43: Creating Excellence For Yourself & Your Organization

What If This Was Your Situation? (continued)

• I resent my co-worker who does not carry his / her share of the workload.

• I have a boss (or coworker) who constantly makes me feel inferior (puts me down).

• I like for things to stay the same, but things constantly change.

• I desire to do the work to perfection, but my boss just wants it done.

• I get dissatisfied quickly. I have changed jobs way too many times.

• I just don't have the energy or desire to get started.

• I can't get the cooperation I need to get the work done.

Page 44: Creating Excellence For Yourself & Your Organization

What If This Was Your Situation? (continued)

The organization won't forget about a bad decision I made.

I lack personal power in the organization.

The boss won't give me the experience in critical area.

I have a tough time speaking up and setting limits with others.

The work / organization violates my personal values.

I have a hard time receiving feedback / criticism.
