Flubber Materials:
3/4 cup cold water
1 cup Elmer’s glue
Food coloring

Direc ons:
1. In bowl 1—mix
together cold water,
glue, and food coloring.
Set aside.
2. In bowl 2—mix
together hot water and
borax, un l borax is
completely dissolved.
3. Slowly add glue
mixture to borax
mixture. Mix well. Pour
off excess water.

Capillary Ac�on Materials:
Paper towels
3—5 Glass containers
Water
Food coloring
Direc ons:
1. Tear paper towels into strips.
2. Line containers up next to each other.
3. Put water and red food coloring in a container on one end.
4. Put water and yellow food coloring in the middle container.
5. Put water and blue food coloring in the container at the
final end.
6. Place paper towel strips so that the hang into the liquid in
each container and hang into the empty containers in
between.
7. Leave material undisturbed for 6 to 8 hours.

Solar Oven Materials:
Aluminum foil Tape
Glue Black paper
Exacto knife Marker
Pizza box Ruler
Mylar/Cling Wrap
Direc ons:
1. Use marker and a ruler to
draw a square on the lid one
inch from each side.
2. Cut the front of the square
and the two sides. Leave the
back uncut to create a flap.
3. Bend back the square flap on your lid and cover the inside
of the flap with aluminum foil using glue to secure.
4. Open the lid of the pizza box and cut a square of Mylar/
cling wrap that is 1 inch larger than the perimeter of the flap.
Pull ghtly and tape on all sides. Close the lid.
5. Put another piece of plas c wrap on the outside of the box
lid, underneath the flap so that both sides of the flap opening
are covered in plas c.
6. Using glue, line the inside of the pizza box with aluminum
foil. Then fold over the sides and tape.
7. Glue black paper to the inside bo>om of the pizza box.
8. When ready to use your oven “preheat” it by placing it
outside in direct sunlight for about 15 minutes.
9. Add contents and close the pizza box. Adjust the angle of
the flap to best harness the sun’s rays. If necessary, use a
straw or a ruler to hold the flap up. Check every 20 minutes
un l heated through.

How a Hand Works Materials:
5 straws
Construc on paper
Paper plate
String/yarn
Scissors
Glue gun
Piece of cardboard
Direc ons:
1. Trace the outline of your hand. Cut the hand out and paste it on the base cardboard.
2. Cut 2 notches into each of the straws to recreate the finger bones.
3. Widen each cut into a diamond with the main peaks located in the middle of the straw.
4. Glue the straws on the hand created earlier. Glue each straw so that the diamond cuts are
found on top to allow the fingers fold and unfold.
5. Now cut 5 pieces of string and thread a bead at each end. Pull the non-beaded end of the
string through each straw so the strings come out at the wrist.
Geode Eggs: Passive Program Materials:
Eggs Water Cups
Borax Salt Egg carton
Food coloring Wax paper
Direc ons:
1. Crack eggs near top and
empty egg innards.
2. Wash inside the egg with hot
water and rub a finger inside
the egg to remove the
membrane.
3. Using very hot water,
dissolve 1/4 cup salt into 1/2
cup water.
4. Add food coloring.
5. Posi on eggs so that they are
held upright in the egg carton
with wax paper underneath carton.
6. Pour mixture into some of the eggs.
7. Repeat process with 1/4 cup borax and 1/2 cup water,
using a different color dye.
8. Leave eggs undisturbed for 3 to 5 days.
Elephant Toothpaste Materials:
2 Tablespoons warm water
1 Teaspoon yeast
4—5 drops food coloring
Dish soap
Small bowl
Empty soda bo>le
6% Hydrogen peroxide
Direc ons:
1. Set soda bo>le in middle of a pan.
2. Dissolve yeast in warm water in small bowl.
3. Mix hydrogen peroxide, food coloring, and dish soap in
soda bo>le.
4. Pour yeast mixture into the soda bo>le.

Borax Crystals Materials:
3 tablespoons Borax
1 cup hot Water

Pipe cleaners
Paperclips
Small s ck
Direc ons:
1. Make desired shape out
of pipe cleaners.
2. Suspend pipe cleaner shape from s ck with paperclips.
3. Mix borax into hot water un l completely dissolved.
4. Pour mixture into bowl.
5. Suspend pipe cleaner shape into bowl. Be sure that no
part of the shape is touching the sides or bo>om of the
bowl.
6. Leave for 6 to 8 hours.
Make Your Own Body Works Materials:
Butcher paper Cling wrap/ Bubble wrap
Tissue paper Makers
Construc on paper Glue
Yarn
Direc ons:
1. Trace body
2. Use construc on paper to create
bones, stomach, liver, kidneys, etc.
3. Use cling wrap or bubble wrap to
create lungs.
4. Use ssue paper or streamers create
intes nes.
5. Use yarn to create the brain.
Layering Liquids Materials :
Honey
Corn syrup
Dish soap
Water
Vegetable oil
Rubbing alcohol
Glass cup or jar
Five different food colors
Direc ons:
1. Have each liquid in a separate container and add
food coloring to each one other than the honey.
2. Pour the honey into the bo>om
3. Slowly pour each following liquid into the jar. It
is important to pour slowly and into the center of
the jar.
4. Be sure to follow the order listed above.
5. Make sure that the liquids do not touch the
sides of the jar while you are pouring.
6. If the liquids mix a li>le as you pour, the layers
will even themselves out. Let each layer se>le
before adding the next.
Bobbing Blobs Clear jar or bo>le

Fizzing antacid tablet
1. Fill the jar about ¼ full of water
2. Add a few drops of food
coloring. Use a spoon to s r the
coloring into the water.
3. Pour baby oil into the jar, leaving about 1 inch of room at
the top.
4. Break the antacid tablet in half. Drop both pieces into
the jar. Sit back and watch as the colored bubbles rise to
the top.

Direc ons:
1. Place 1—2 scoops of ice
cream in a cup.
2. Slowly pour soda over ice cream.

Crystal Trees Materials:
1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon water
1 Tablespoon Mrs. Stewarts liquid
bluing
½ Tablespoon ammonia
Disposable bowl
Empty jar with lid
Thin cardboard (not corrugated)
Direc ons:
1. Add salt, water, bluing, and ammonia to the jar.
2. Shake well to mix.
3. Place cardboard standing up in bowl.
4. Pour into mixture into bo>om of bowl.
5. Full effect takes about 8 hours.
Periscope Materials :
2 Small square mirrors
Periscope pa>ern
Cardstock
Scissors
Glue or tape
Direc ons:
1. Print the periscope pa>ern on sheet of heavy
cardstock.
2. Cut out the periscope pa>ern.
3. Fold on do>ed lines.
4. Glue or tape folded sec ons together.
5. Glue or tape small square mirrors at each end of
the resul ng tube so that they are facing each other.
Gravity-Defying Funnels Materials:
Enough books to make two stacks: a 1 inch high
& a 3 inches high stacks
2 yards cks
2 plas c funnels
Duct tape
Paper towel roll tube
Direc ons:
1. Stack books into 1 inch
and 3 inch stacks.
2. Move the stacks so that
the yards cks lie across them
to form a bridge.
3. Place the yards cks to
make a V shape with the 2
ends about 3 inches apart on
the shorter stack of books and about 6 inches apart on the
taller stack of books.
4. Tape the funnels together so that the bowls line up.
5. Place the cardboard tube at the bo>om of the ramp and
then the top of the ramp. What happens?
6. Now place the joined funnels at the bo>om of the ramp
and then the top of the ramp. What happens?
No Light Lava Lamp Materials:
1/2 Cup water
1/2 Cup vegetable oil
Food coloring
4—5 Tablespoons salt
Clear glass jar
Direc ons:
1. Pour water and food coloring into jar.
2. Add vegetable oil.
3. What happens?
4. Sprinkle salt into jar.
5. What happens?
Mini-Einsteins Materials:
Co>on balls or Co>on filling Black marker
Toilet paper roll White paper
Tape Glue
Direc ons:
1. Draw lab coat, bow e, or other ouQit on white paper.
2. Using tape and glue, affix white paper around toilet pa-
per roll.
3. Pull co>on balls or filling apart some to make it look like
Einstein’s hair.
4. Make a piece of co>on into a mustache.
5. Glue hair and mustache as appropriate.
6. Draw a face.

Fizzle Out Materials:
Birthday candle
Mug
1 Tablespoon baking soda
Matches
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1. Stand a candle up in the center of a mug.
2. Spread baking soda around the candle.
3. Light the candle.
4. Pour lemon juice into the mug. Be careful not to pour it
on the candle flame.
5. Watch what happens to the flame.
Shiny New Pennies Water
Dish soap
2 drinking glasses
½ cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon table salt
Dull, dirty pennies
1. Pour some water and dish soap into one glass. Get the
soap all sudsy.
2. Pour the lemon juice and the table salt in the other
glass.
3. Add a few dull, dirty pennies to each glass.
4. Let the pennies soak for 5 minutes, and then take them
out and rinse them well in running water.
5. Examine their appearance.
