For many years the Picnic was held on Soldier Creek a few miles north of Fair- field, but because of lack of parking and the difficult terrain for less agile pioneers, the celebration was move to the City Park. While attendance has varied over the years, passing the 100 year mark in 2013 has renewed interest in this unique event. The Old Time Fiddlers will begin playing at eleven o’clock, followed by the eating and socializing at noon. Judge Varin will make the keynote address and an update will be giving on the recovery of George Carrico’s Johnson Hill Carving which was stolen several years ago. Other attractions include Beulah Bald- win’s timeline exhibit will be on display throughout the whole day and a rare Camas Legacy Book will be auctioned. While the meat is provided, this is a pot- luck celebration. So, bring a side dish, a salad, or a dessert. You might also want to bring a chair as picnic tables are limited. Above all, bring a friend. Everyone is welcome. Snake River Pottery A Historical Icon of the Hagerman Valley by Kailana Featherston If you have an apprecia- tion for pottery and have lived in the Hagerman and Magic Valley for any num- ber of years, then you too might have your own memo- ries of the iconic landmark created 68 years ago by Aldrich (Drich) and Lillian (Di) Bowler. The Snake River Pottery is situated on a beautiful site overlooking the Snake River, sheltered by canyon walls, farm lands, and an abundance of wildlife. It was built before the neigh- boring, and famous, Frank Lloyd Wright house. And it should be noted, that those with the same appreciations might want to know, that the 2 1/2 acre historical prop- erty is on the market after nearly seventy years of help- ing form the art history of Southern Idaho.
