Structural Control or Geological Association:
"Manganese mineralization occurs in a complex pattern of fractures and irregular bunches along a steeply dipping shear zone cutting both the sandy beds of the Artillery formation and the basalt member of that formation. The manganese minerals, largely hard psilomelane and manganite, occur in fractures ranging from mere seams to veinlets several inches in width. In some parts of the zone, the mineralized fractures are closely spaced and form bands and sporatic masses of ore several feet wide and tens of feet long."l
Age of Mineralization:
Production History
(1955)1 Total production 476 long tons and 711 long tons concentrates
Geochemical Analyses
(1955)1 Ore average: 21% Mn Concentrates: 31 to 40.2% Mn •

JAN !li 1943 I
OWNER: R. S . Rodgers, Wenden, Arizona. PKOENlX, M~IZONA
METALS: Manganese. Inru""-".~ '"
LOCATION: This group, consisting of two mining claims, is located in the Owens Mining District, Mohave County, Arizona, a t a point about five miles south of Artillery Peak and two miles north of the Williams River. It is reached by a road newly constructed by owner of property. Thisroad leaves the Alamo-Wenden road about 4 miles east of Alamo Crossing. Thence, it extends northeasterly a nd crosses the Williams River, a bout 6 miles above the said AlamoCrossing. Thence the road goes north about two miles up NeedleEye wa sh to property. With some improvement, this road could be used to truck ore to Wenden, excepting during periods of high water in the Williams River.
VISIT: I visited this property, in company with Joe Lewis and R-.-g: Rodgers, on J a nuary 15, 1943, at which time Rodgers was working the mine by himself and was arranging to ship ore to the Parker sto~ckpile.
MINE WORKINGS: Rodgers had completed a n open cut on vein for a length of 20 feet, exposing a f a ce of Mn ore about three feet wideo About one ton of ore was piled on dump - hand-sorted material - estimated by o'\vner to run around 40% Ivln.' The country rock consists of alternating beds of sandstone and conglomerate, intruded by an andesite dike adjacent to the vein, which strikes N. 45 deg. W., and dips 60 deg, N. E. I did not take any samples of the ore.
EE~RKS: This property ha~ the ear-marks of a good little shipper; but further work will be necessary in order to prove whether there is any great amount of shipping ore or not. This property is located about two miles westerly from the Black Diamond Mn claims belonging to Lewis Brothers and their sister, Mrs. Thomps~n. (See my report on the Black Diamond Group).
