Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Lodge: When our Golf Outing is on the top of the list, we realize that we are about to enter the sum-mer season. A time for graduations, or a “moving up ceremony” (as it is referred to today), and of course the weddings, etc. It is also a time to relax and
enjoy the outdoors with barbeques, and vacations to places we read about all winter.
As the President of the Lodge, I am honored to have so many good officers who have been willing to work to bring our Lodge back to what it once was. It has not been easy and yes, the economy was a major factor; but we also had injuries and sickness which hit our ranks. Some of those affected were key players in making this Lodge run. Like any good team, the members of the Lodge and the Auxiliary, pulled together and assumed dual roles, daily assignments of manning the phones, shopping for anything and everything needed to function; butchering our own meats so we can save money; and showing up when we needed assistance at our gaming events. Has it helped? Yes…it has given us new life and hopefully everyone who has stepped up realizes his or her efforts have made a difference. We are a Lodge; not a club.
We had an excellent turnout for the Golf outing and the results are very promising. This came from a few good people, working very hard to make it happen. I applaud that committee and everyone who contributed. Tom Lorito chaired the event this year and did an outstanding job.
As you all know, there will be no feast this year. It was very troubling for this board to make that decision. After having this event for so many years, to enter the summer season without it, is sad. Believe me, the Board tried everything possilbe to make it happen, but without a good “ride guy”, it can not happen.
We will still have our annual mass to honor Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The mass will be held at St. Cyril’s on Sunday, July 25 at 11am. We will have coffee and cake back at the Lodge for every-one who wishes to join us.
An unfortunate part about being the President is hearing all the bad news….this is especially troublesome when it involves people you are close with.
This past month illness has affected so many of our mem-bers.
Mike Ferrato, our Financial Secretary, is very sick. His
spirits are high and his outlook is positive, but the illness is scary. I try to call him weekly for updates and to see if he needs anything. I will keep you posted on the “voice of our phone tree.”
Adding to Jim Caravella’s problems are cataracts…as soon as the chemo stops, the cataract removal will begin.
The perpetual teenager, Nunzio Diamante, is undergoing a hip replacement as this newsletter goes to print. Hopefully he will be back on the dance floor soon.
Fran and Al Barone were involved in a serious traffic acci-dent on their trip to Atalntic City. The accident was so severe, they had to be cut out of their car. Fortunately, they are both home and recuperating after this ordeal. Only someone who has been in an auto accident can fully understand the pain and soreness that fol-lows for days after the event.
Our last medical calls for June, were for Mary Ann Perticone , who is undergoing some painful dental work and Neil Ardolino, who was hospitalized for a few days and is back home, doing well. To all of you, I hope you remain well, may your illnesses and pain become less and less; and you return to the Lodge. We miss you all.
As many of you know, we have a new Lodge Queen, Lauren Merlino. This little lady was selected over two other equally lovely ladies. The judges had their hands full, but I am sure no one really lost and we gained a beautiful representative for our Lodge and Auxiliary.
As a reminder, we try to keep everyone’s phone number up to date…it is important, especially for the messages we send out on the phone tree. So if you move, or change your phone number, please let us know by writing your information on a piece of paper and dropping it our mail box in the office or e-mailing me at [email protected] .
I sincerely hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July. Celebrate it with family or friends and try to remember what it is alll about…Freedom. Keep the servicemen and women in your prayers while you enjoy that BBQ and remember, they may be in some God forsaken hell hole ensuring you that gift…Freedom.
I also want to thank everyone who called and dropped cards for Jan’s recovery…everything is fine and she is as good as new. Respectfully,
John Vigiano
President’s Message
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel MASS 11:00 AM Sunday, JULY 25th at St. Cyril’s
The liturgical feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, is popularly associated with devotion to the Scapular. The Brown Scapular is ―an external sign of the filial relationship established between the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother and Queen of Mount Carmel, and the faithful who entrust themselves totally to her protection, who have recourse to her maternal intercession, who are mindful of the primacy of the spiritual life and the need for prayer.‖ Mass followed by Coffee & Cake at the Lodge.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Another busy month has flown by,
with the achievements of many suc-cessful events and many more to come.
I hope everyone is enjoying their sum-mer. June, July and August are busy times at our Lodge.
Our convention at Villa Roma was great and an honor to be in attendance. Our LaVoce was again honored with a plaque, this year for “Best Editor” by our own Bob Savino. Congratulations Bob and Sabrina for a job well done. Keep up the good work. Many thanks to Anita Montuori and Marge Valenti for our successful Trip to Taj in Atlantic City, all who went had a great time. Thank you to Chairlady Lorena Lanzilotta and her commit-tee, for another successful night chairing our Spring Dinner/Dance. I know it’s not easy undertaking the responsibility of a Dance, but all went well, as always. Also a special thank you to D.J.’s Joanne and Gene for the great music. Cheers to Rose Dispenseri and her committee for the Ladies Military Bridge for doing a wonderful job. Everyone who attended went home a winner. A special thank you to Joe Bilello and the men of the Lodge for their generous donation . . . much appreciated. It’s nice to know I can count on you.. Also a very SPECIAL thank you to Carmel and Bill Lamont for their generous donation and working endlessly in the kitchen, along with Rose Failla and Lucille DiNardo. On Tuesday, June 22nd, at the Ladies General Meeting, we had our Crowning of our Lodge Queen Lauren Merlino. I know she will represent our Lodge with Honor and Dignity, as her sister did in the year 2008 - 2009. Lauren will also represent our Lodge in the District #1 Queens Pageant in August.
Many thanks to our Outgoing Queen Ashley Merlito, for always representing us beautifully with her graceful ways this past year. Ashley, Good Luck to you in your future endeavors. And to my Chairlady Debra Prestano, what can I say? You have taken the responsibility of obtaining a new Lodge Queen for 2010, and as always, a job well done, along with your quiet, caring ways. You make it seem so easy, the transition from one Queen to another preparing this special night for our new Queen and the Lodge, making sure all goes smoothly. Many thanks, it’s always a pleasure. Save the date, August 28th for our next dance – Luau. Ladies Annual Fashion Show on Sept. 23rd. The Ladies big-gest event of the year. Please check the LaVoce for upcoming events. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my SISTERS who chaired functions, doing your best under today’s economic conditions…..Every job I have given you has been carried out to the letter, and I personally applaud everyone of you and your commit-tees. We need continued support on our Vegas and Bingo nights. Come down, we appreciate all you do, no matter what span of time you give to us. Please pray for our sick and deceased members of our Lodge, who always have a special place in our hearts. Wishing everyone a HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY. God BLESS OUR GREAT COUNTRY! Fraternally, President Diana

Our Country . . . On July 4th we celebrate Independence Day, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence; but it was July 2nd, 1776 when the legal separation of the Ameri-can Colonies from Great Britain was voted on and approved. However you choose to enjoy the day, be it at barbecues, carnivals, baseball games, fireworks displays . . . Celebrate our ‗Sweet Land of Liberty.‖
Our Culture . . . On July 2nd Italy celebrates the Palio of Siena, a horse race in Siena‘s main square, Piazza del Campo, that starts with a Mass and blessing of the horses. This is considered one of Italy‘s most popular historic festivals. The afternoon begins with a pro-cession through Siena‘s historic center, with costumed participants and performances by flag throwers. The starting gate is a traditional rope and the race runs 1000 meters. The winning horse is awarded the palio (victory flag).
The month of July was named after Julius Caesar . . . Celebrate Our Country & Our Culture! A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, identified as a ―salute to the union,‖ is fired on Independence Day, at noon, by many military bases. “ Freedom is not for Free . . . Remember our Freedom Keepers.”
