3 JULY/AUGUST 2020
Brothers and Sisters, In a previous President’s Message and for this current message I start off by saying to our lodge members, T H A N K Y O U. These un-precedented times have lingered on longer than any of us ever expected. This also affected the financial status of our lodge. However, due to the generosity and support of a core group of mem-
bers in our lodge as well as other members, we have managed to swim in lieu of partially sinking. We are still in and remain in unprece-dented times. As we go through the phases of reopening, I continue to urge all of you to attempt to stay as safe as possible, and follow the recommendations of our government officials. What does this all mean for our lodge? As I write this message, we still do not have a definite opening schedule. That being said, it is very important that you keep your attention to our Lodge Website, Facebook Page, Email Communications and any Phone Tree Voice Messages. It is likely that under the present circumstances, several events may start up sporadically with very little warning.
Our Italian take-out dinner program was very successful and well received by those who purchased these delicious great value meals. We plan on providing these take-out meals periodically as a way of helping us financially and as an indirect way of socializing during these trying times. Brumidi Catering joined forces with the Suffolk County Conference Knights of Columbus and helped provide 425 meals to the health care workers at both Maria Regina in Brent-wood and Our Lady of Consolation in West Islip. Brumidi Catering also provided meals to health care workers at St. Catherine’s in Smithtown through a generous donation from member Sal Mangano. We thank you Sal for all your generosity.
As of this writing, we do not have a date for reopening our lodge. We will open as soon as we can to a building that has been cleaned and sanitized from top to bottom thanks to our own Alex and Manuel under the supervision of Frank Montuori and Daniel Calise. The building is waiting for us to get back to normal with our meetings, catering and activities.
I regret to inform you that for a second time, the officers and trustees again decided at our June trustee’s meeting not to print the July/August Issue of the LaVoce due to financial implications at this time. The LaVoce will be published and made available on the website and emailed as a Portable Document Format to those mem-bers who registered their email addresses with us. We did not predict that the pandemic would affect us this long. Again, we are hoping to resume printing and mailing with the September/October issue.
I have no answers for you regarding when activities will come together and take place. My opinion is that everything will start all of a sudden and we will be all working very hard to get them together as quickly as possible. I wish you and your families a safe and healthy summer. Remember to not let your guard down and remain diligent in keeping you and your family as healthy as possible. Summer is here and hopefully we can enjoy some of what was taken away from us in the spring.
Happy Independence Day. Hopefully you will be able to celebrate your freedom with your family and reflect on the true mean-ing of the Fourth of July. Remember, the words courage and deter-mination, the two words that built this great Country. May God Bless America. Fraternally,
Carmine “The three hardest things to say are: I was wrong, I need help, Worcestershire sauce.”
President’s Message
The Constantino Brumidi Lodge N0. 2211 in Deer Park through its catering company, Brumidi Catering Corporation cooked meals for 225 Health Care Workers at the Maria Regina Nursing Home located in St. Joseph’s Convent on Brentwood Road in Brentwood. The funding for the meals was generously donated by the Suffolk County Conference Knights of Columbus which represents over 50 Councils in Suffolk County. This was one small way the Knights of Columbus chose to show thanks to the healthcare workers at Maria Regina during the pandemic. The food was delivered by Brumidi Catering. Carmine Soldano, President of the Constantino Brumidi Lodge and also the Treasurer of the Suffolk County Conference Knights of Columbus over saw the delivery of the food and met with some of the administration at Maria Regina. “This is a great example how two great organizations can help each other and work together to show our gratitude to our Health Care workers.” The meals were enjoyed immensely by nursing home staff. Left to Right: Kathy Sealey-Nursing Scheduler, Janeen Bush-Director of Therapeutic Recreation, Dorothy Cappadora-Assistant Director of Nursing, Lucy Johnson-Director of Adult Day Program, Grace Klein-Adult Day Recreation Coordinator, Carmine Soldano-President of the Constantino Brumidi Lodge & Treasurer of the Suffolk County Conference Knights of Columbus.

Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs is a basilica and nominal church in Rome, Italy, built inside the ruined frigidarium of the Roman Baths of Diocletian in the Piazza della Repubblica. It was constructed in the 16th century following an original design by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The basilica is dedicated to the Christian martyrs, known and unknown. By a brief dated July 1561, Pius IV ordered the church "built", to be dedicated to the Beatissimae Virgini et omnium Angelorum et Martyrum ("the Most Blessed Virgin and all the Angels and Martyrs"). Impetus for this dedication had been generated by the account of a vision of the Archangel Uriel experienced in the ruins of the Baths in 1541 by a Sicilian monk, Antonio del Duca, who had been lobbying for decades for papal authorization of a more formal veneration of the Angelic Princes. A story that these Martyrs were Christian slave labourers who had been set to constructing the Baths is modern. It was also a personal monument of Pope Pius IV, whose tomb is in the apsidal tribune. At Santa Maria degli Angeli, Michelangelo achieved a sequence of shaped architectural spaces, developed from a Greek cross, with a dominant transept, with cubical chapels at each end, and the effect of a transverse nave. There is no true facade; the simple entrance is set within one of the coved apses of a main space of the bath complex. The vestibule with canted corners and identical side chapels—one chapel has the tomb of Salvator Rosa, the other of Carlo Maratta—leads to a second vestibule, repeated on the far side of the transept, dominated by the over lifesize Saint Bruno of Cologne by Jean Antoine Houdon (1766). Of the Saint Bruno, Pope Clement XIV said that he would speak, were it not for the vow of silence of the order he founded. In 2006, Polish-born sculptor Igor Mitoraj created new bronze doors as well as a statue of John the Baptist for the basilica. In April 2010, a sixteen foot bronze statue of Galileo Galilei Divine Man (designed by 1957 Nobel laureate Tsung-Dao Lee) was unveiled in a courtyard within the complex. The statue (a dedication to the 17th-century scientist and philosopher) was a donation from CCAST (China Center of Advanced Science and Technology) and WFS (World Federation of Scientists). Santa Maria degli Angeli was the official state church of the Kingdom of Italy (1870–1946). More recently, national burials have been held in the church. The church hosts the tombs of General Armando Diaz and Admiral Paolo Thaon di Revel, who were successful commanders during World War I on the Italian front. Also today the Basilica is used for many ceremonies, including the funeral of soldiers killed abroad.
