3 MARCH/APRIL 2020
Brothers and Sisters, T H A N K Y O U F O R A L L Y O U D O F O R O U R L O D G E ! The end of February marked the completion of two (2) years as Presi-dent of your lodge. Together we accomplished many things to make your lodge better and en-hance our events. This time last year we were in the planning stages for our 50th anniversary cele-
bration. Now we are forging ahead to recruit more active members and become more financially responsible with new fundraising ideas.
We have been very fortunate this winter with our semi mild winter weather and very little snow. As our spring days arrive again, our lodge has many upcoming events planned. Our annual Saints’ Day Social will again be on St. Patrick’s Day this year from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A delicious meal with beer, wine and soda and your deli-cious Italian Pastry for only $30.00 a person. On Tuesday, March 24th we will host our Annual Installation of Officers. We will also have a brief general membership meeting. Please come down and show thanks to your brothers and sisters who have been working so hard for you throughout the fraternal year. Sunday, March 29th is our annual Easter Bunny Breakfast. Make reservations now for your family, children and grandchildren and enjoy our Brumidi breakfast and then a visit with the Easter Bunny. Sunday, April 19th we are hosting a Testimonial Brunch for Daniel Calise thanking him for his involvement in the community as Grand Night of Our Lady of the Rosary Knights of Columbus from 2017 to 2019. Tuesday, May 19th is our Annual Scholarship Awards night. Please mark your calendars so you can come down and support these special young men and women in our communities.
Next, I would like to take the time to thank House Chairman Frank Montuori, his staff and all the members that helped with the NYS Plenary on February 1st. We had a scheduling conflict at our lodge and everyone rose to the occasion to ensure the plenary attendees were fed a hot breakfast and lunch at the new venue. This came at a time when Frank and his staff had to prepare meals for five days in a row. Great job by great dedicated brothers and sisters.
I must remind you all that our regularly scheduled dance nights appear to be our main steady source of income. Vegas is still a good source of income, but it is a hit and miss depending on the availability of players and most of all workers. Therefore is not as steady an income as the dances. The dances include our Brumidi Wednesday night dance, Thursday Swing dance and ACLD dance, Friday Latin dance, and Saturday Western dance. That being said, we need your help. These are what appear to be the life line of the lodge. Please make yourself available for at least one night for 2 to 3 hours to make these events happen.
Finally, plans are in the works for a Brumidi Lodge seven day fraternal cruise out of Cape Liberty, New Jersey next February. Start saving for what plans to be a wonderful relaxing time away in the warm Caribbean on a state of the art cruise ship. We will start bringing you more details at our monthly meetings.
Please remember to come down on March 24th to our lodge installation and give your best wishes to the incoming board. I look forward to seeing you all there. God Bless.
Fraternally,
Carmine “Passion is in all great searches and is necessary to all creative endeavors.”

Brumidi Lodge
Easter in Italy begins on Palm Sunday, with religious services and processions throughout the week leading up to Easter. Some of the most well-known are the Good Friday processions – including the “Stations of the Cross” in Rome, led by the Pope; one in the Sicilian town of Enna, with thousands of white-hooded friars carrying statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary; and the oldest religious procession in Italy in the Abruzzo town of Chieti, also with thousands of hooded brothers and followed by a marching orchestra and choir performing the “Miserere” (full title: Miserere mei, Deus . . . Latin for: “Have mercy on me, O God”). Pasqua begins with services in churches throughout the country, as well as a big meal enjoyed at home with family. Traditional dishes eaten at Easter include artichokes, roast lamb, and a sweet holiday bread called “Colomba,” (“dove”). While there is no Easter Bunny in Italy – there is chocolate in abundance, particularly in the form of large chocolate eggs that have prizes hidden inside. Easter in the Vatican is a grand affair, with a huge mass in St. Peter’s Square in the morning followed by the Pope’s annual “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city <Rome> and the world) speech at noon. Perhaps the most interesting Easter celebration in Italy is in Florence. A dove-shaped rocket flies out of the Duomo after the services and lands on a wooden cart that’s been arranged in the square, lighting it on fire and setting off the fireworks that adorn it.
