RESOURCECENTER: Clean Lungs and Happy Trees

APPLY FOR TNTPutnam County schools start back this month and so does the Teens Need Training after-school program! Let-ters will be mailed to Cookev-ille-area residents that have children eligible for TNT to announce the opening of ap-plications to join TNT.

TNT is available to 22 HRS youth in grades 5 through 12. The group meets Mon-days and Wednesdays after

school. We provide tutors, homework assistance, access to a computer lab and snacks. TNT members also have op-portunities to participate in fun events. This year, parents are required to attend a TNT enrollment meeting and will be expected to be involved with TNT. Please consider applying for your child or chil-dren; the rewards are great! If you have any questions, please call me at 931.526.9793 ext. 213.

SUMMER LUNCHIN’Summer lunch is going strong! The program is open to chil-dren through age 18, and par-ticipants must be able to eat a school lunch meal. Lunches are provided Mondays, Wednes-days and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until July 18 (with the ex-ception of Friday, July 4) at the 706 Pine Ave. police substation. Not only do participating chil-dren receive a healthy lunch, but they enjoy fun and games provided by area churches.

Setting Off Some TNT (No, Not That Kind!)

DON’T QUIT, JUST COMEEveryone is invited to our free “Don’t Quit, Just Come” Smoking/ Tobacco Cessation Classes on Tuesdays, July 8 and 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the HRS main office, 235 West Jackson St. Learn the skills you need to avoid smoking or how to “Quit 4 Life” now. If you are a nonsmoker but are concerned about someone you know that does smoke, please join us. These classes are open to the public, and you can participate at any time. Each meeting counts as two hours of community service.

P.O.P. IN THE PARK Celebrate the beginning of another safe, drug-free school year with Power of Putnam and its community partners

on July 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dogwood Park pavilion in Cookeville. The day will feature food, fun and games, giveaways (like school supplies and prescription drug lock boxes) and more. This free event is open to the public. Visit powerofputnam.org for more information.

SOCIAL SECURITY GOES PAPERLESSBeginning in August, Social Security number printouts will no longer be available. If you have lost your card, you must apply for a replacement. In October, printed benefit verification letters will no longer be available.
