The unshielded surface temperature of the engine and exhaust systems of high-performance, marine propul-sion aggregates far exceeds the flash point of diesel fuel. For this reason, the current, globally valid, SOLAS guidelines stipulate that the surface temperature of components used on the high seas must not exceed 220°C.
