Welcome to our Hockey Fami ly!
The longer serving members of the club (tactful) will no
doubt remember that there used to be a publication
sent out regularly to keep the club members updated
with the goings on at Cobdown HC.
Following many discussions and what can only be
described as one of the most successful seasons ever for
Cobdown HC the committee decided it was time to
bring it back. After a little bit of thought and help from
some emails a name was found:
COBS ROCK!

Aylesford School Sports College Pitch Update
Over the last 8 months we have been spending a large
proportion of our Club Development time working with
Aylesford School Sports College, England Hockey, Notts
Sports and Bilfinger PFI discussing options and
approaches for a potential pitch on the school site. These
discussions have been going very well and all parties are
positive and interested in moving this forward.
Artificial pitches are not a cheap facility to invest in. For a
brand new pitch, you are looking at around £500,000, so
an investment needs to have a considered approach and
more commonly nowadays, have a solid business case
behind it to ensure that it can make a return. England
Hockey have singled out Notts Sports as their preferred
supplier for these facilities and with it comes a unique
proposal for funding any such development, which greatly
reduces the risk on any parties involved. This, along with
the usage feedback from a survey of the local community
has provided some fuel to the fire for getting a facility at
Aylesford School Sports College, to the extent that there
are now detailed "Board" discussions taking place. There
is still a little way to go, but things are looking very
promising at the moment! As more news becomes
available, we will be sure to let you know!
Back 2 Hockey – Big Success Throughout the summer of 2014 England Hockey launched a National Campaign called “Back2Hockey” which was aimed at encouraging ladies who had not played Hockey since school to take up the game once more and was as well as encourage ladies who have never played before to give it a go. In conjunction with the National campaign Cobdown HC ran two sessions. Both were deemed a huge success and were attended and enjoyed by both existing players and new members alike. Following these sessions Cobdown HC has already increased its membership for the forthcoming season and we look forward to welcoming newcomers to the 2014 / 15 season.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT… “In the Spotlight” is a feature that will appear each month in the newsletter and is designed to be a bit of fun and an opportunity to share some interesting, amusing and silly info about yourself with the rest of the club.
Please visit the following site and complete the questionnaire if you fancy appearing in the Spotlight!

Grand Day Out at London Investec Cup
On Saturday 12th July many members of Cobdown
Hockey club ventured off to Eton Manor the home of
the London Investec Cup to support the England
Men’s and Ladies teams.
The sun was shining, the “Pimms” (other drinks
brands available) were no doubt flowing, and all that
was needed was some good Hockey and boy were
they not disappointed.
Throughout the weekend there were goals galore, last
ditch tackles, full stretch saves and as always the odd
dispute (just like most Saturdays) but following a
combination of some amazing play and the ability to
stay calm during a shootout both the England Men’s
and the England Ladies teams were crowned Investec
Champions.
In addition to the first class hockey, other highlights
from the day included many of the England players
taking the time to appreciate their fans by signing
autographs and posing for pictures.
Below England forward Alex Danson can be seen
with Cobdown players Brook Fowler, James Bush
and Thomas Dadd.

And finally… We have setup a fundraising committee, as part of Club Development, to allow us to generate more revenue for the benefit of all current and aspiring members of the club! This will commence with the first meeting in early September where ideas will be collated, allocated and then moved forward by the committee! Not only will it generate us more revenue but it will also help to expand our presence within the community presence and let people know who we are, where we are and what we do! If anyone has any ideas for future issues or any contact details (address/telephone/e-mail) for past players, life vice presidents and/or vice presidents who no longer play for the club, could you please e-mail them to [email protected]
