About AYSO• AYSO Vision: to provide world-class youth soccer programs
that enrich children’s lives.• AYSO Mission: to develop and deliver quality youth soccer
programs that promote a fun, family environment based on: • AYSO’s Six Philosophies:
– Everyone Plays– Balanced Teams– Open Registration– Positive Coaching– Good Sportsmanship– Player Development
AYSO Philosophy: Balanced Teams• Teams are computer generated• Balance is based on last year’s ratings• New kids (wild cards) arrive, players change • Not feasible to run tryout for 1,500 kids• Prepare your team for blowout wins and loses
• Good sportsmanship matters
Focus on the learning and enjoyment, not the standings
Player Ratings
• Players are rated to create next year’s teams
• Note strong/weak players throughout season
• Plan on attending October meeting to discuss
AYSO Philosophy: Player Development
• Read your coach manuals, watch the videos• Prioritize your training - keep it simple• Don’t lecture, keep them moving• Set individual and team goals• Learn from any situation• Train during the week, play on the weekend
Focus on helping kids reach their potential, and wanting to come back for more
AYSO Philosophy: Positive Coaching
• Redefine winning. • Sportsmanship, skill mastery and building character are
far more important goals.• Fill emotional tanks with P.I.E. - positive, instructional,
encouraging coaching• Honor the game• Coach with each other while the players compete
You can help create better athletes, and better people
