County Fair Volunteers Needed In order ot continue showcasing the 4-H program, picture boards will be displayed in the Events Center. They were a huge hit last year.

4-H Contests including speech, performing arts, demonstration, cake decorating, creative cooks – if possible we would like to have an actual creative cooks table on display .

4-H Trips including all out of county trips LDC, Exchange, National Conference, Camp, District Retreat, Washington Focus from last year.

Project Board – most projects will either be on display in the Event’s Center or the animals will be on the fairgrounds. We will need pictures from any dog shows, horse shows, shooting sports events, and fashion revue. These contests are over by the time the building is open to the public and Dana would like to have pictures for these events.

Club Boards – Dana would like to have an 8X10 group photo of your club members, your club motto or slogan or goal statement and a list of projects offered in your club. Get your kids together and take a group picture as soon as possible.

4-H Seniors and/or College Students in their last year of 4-H – If you have a 2012 graduating senior in your club, we need a picture of them and a short biography for their own display board. If you have a member in your club who is currently in college and this is their last year in 4-H, we will need their pictures also a 5 X 7 photo is needed along with a brief bio of each student.). PICTURES WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

We also need adults, older members or even clubs to ―ADOPT A BOARD‖. This means that you would be responsible for making sure all pictures, information, and captions are together and come and decorate ―YOUR BOARD‖ on Event’s Center set up day Sunday, July 8 at 1:00 P.M. or Tuesday, July 10 starting at 10:00 AM. You may turn in any pictures you may have to the Extension by JUNE 25th. If you are interested in helping with a board please let the office know or call Dana McClure at 485-3408.

PUEBLO COUNTY FAIR INFORMATION

Pueblo County Fair 4-H Ambassadors Help is also needed to be in the Event’s Center from Wednesday July 11th through Saturday, July 14th from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The duty of these 4-H Fair Ambassadors would be:

Work a two hour shift (2 to 4 people at a time).

Greet visitors who come to view the projects on display

Wear a name badge and a 4-H t-shirt (if you have one from your club) or just wear a green shirt

Give away 4-H promotion items (stickers, tattoos, etc) to the general public

Be available at an information table to share 4-H enrollment information with the public

Monitor the building to make sure all exhibits are safe Who should this be staffed by:

Parents, leaders, older 4-H members (at least two adults per shift)

Younger members can help, but only if a parent/guardian or another adult is present

Officer’s of your club

Horse Council, Parent/Leader Group, Livestock Council, Shooting Sports Council Officers

Specie representatives from the livestock areas

Call the Extension Office with times you would like to volunteer.

Display Boards For Fair Projects Available In The Office

We purchased a supply of display boards that meet the exhibit guidelines for size. The price is $3 per board . The boards are white.

Personal Safety As we approach fair season, please remember there are a lot of people on the fairgrounds during our County Fair. Remember these things:

Always lock your vehicle.

Don’t leave valuables such as purses, wallets, etc. in your vehicle, even if it’s locked.

Don’t leave valuables unattended in your stalling area.

Obey traffic rules and regulations. Watch for children!

Be careful and have a great Pueblo County Fair!

Fashion Review Practice Sunday, July 8 – 3:00 p.m. Events Center, CSF. Take this opportunity to practice on the runway! Following the practice, participants and families will help decorate the stage.

County Fair Teen Superintendents Do you want to learn more about the County Fair, gain junior leader experience and strengthen your leadership? Volunteer to help at the Pueblo County Fair. Just call our office by June 22 to let us know you are available. Positions Available in: Horse, Livestock, Dog, General and Consumer Science

Activity Table We would like to have an ―activity table‖ for younger members that might come with older siblings or anyone who just wants to ―sit down for a minute in a cool building‖. We will have a coloring page, word search games, etc. on hand at this table.

4-H Silent Auction If you have youth in any projects that might want to donate an item to the Pueblo County 4-H Silent Auction held during the 4-H/FFA Market Stock Sale on Saturday, July 14, please encourage them to do so. This could be as simple as a youth in foods making an extra pie, cookies, a ceramics youth making an extra ceramic piece to donate etc. We ask each club to donate an item from your club for this Silent Auction. Contact the Extension Office if your club or members are going to donate something. Proceeds go to the 4-H Scholarship Fund.

June 4 – LAST Opportunity for Dog & Livestock Tests and MQA

Reminder – June 4 is the last opportunity to take dog and livestock tests and attend the Meat Quality Assurance Training. Sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. in the 4-H Auditorium at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Meat Quality Assurance Training will begin at 6:30 p.m. Youth who also need to take the livestock test may do so after the MQA Training. Youth who have taken the MQA training, or dog members, may begin testing at 6:30 p.m.

Wool Lead Contest Hey 4-H Exhibitors, The Wool Lead Contest is open to any 4-H/FFA exhibitor at the Pueblo County Fair. The goal of the contest is to promote the use of wool and fiber in clothing and accessories by showing its beauty, versatility and source. Your outfit may be homemade, store bought or pulled from your closet but a portion of your overall garment must contain wool or wool blend. This could mean a scarf or mittens. How about a vest or skirt? A wool cowboy hat or even a shawl! You do not have to own a sheep, fiber goat or llama to participate. You can borrow one from a fellow youth exhibitor who is showing one at the fair this year. Come try something new! Call the 4-H office to sign up. Deadline July 6.

Food At the Fair The 4-H parent/leader group has gotten together and will be sponsoring the Chill Grill at the Pueblo County Fair. The money raised from this concession stand will stay in the parent/leader group account to help with sponsorships for leaders/parents to attend trainings, trips and other requests. Volunteers are needed to work half day shifts during the pueblo county fair. Everyone seemed to enjoy having fresh, homemade food during the fair without leaving the fairgrounds. So before you show or after your show, please volunteer to help with this concession stand. Workers should be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult. E-Record Book Information Consumer Science and General Project Books: The Consumer Science and General Project Books will not be turned in to our office prior to fair; but will be turned in with your project when you bring the exhibit for your interview judging on July 10. Leaders must review records and sign them before fair. Exception: Shooting Sports e-records are due to the office by June 11 by 5:00 p.m. Dog, and Horse e-Records Dog and Horse e-Records need to be pre-graded by the 4-H leader, and we will need leader verification no later than JUNE 4 that the record book is acceptable as up-to-date and correct. A sticker will be provided for leaders to place on the record book showing verification that the book is acceptable. All completed dog and horse e-records are due in the CSUE office on September 10, 2012. Horse e-records will be graded by a committee and Dog e-records will be judged by an outside judge. Awards will be given at Achievement Night. Volunteers are needed to help judge horse e-records. Please call the office to sign up. Livestock e-Records Leaders need to review livestock e-records and verify that the record book is up-to-date and correct on June 4th. A sticker will be provided for leaders to place on the record book showing verification that the 4-H leader has deemed the book acceptable by June 4. Leaders must inform the CSU Extension Office that books are acceptable and youth are qualified to show. After County Fair all Livestock leaders need to phone in the scores for books and bring in the books nominated for best records (one for each age group—Junior, Intermediate, Senior). These records will be due in the CSUE office on September 10, 2011 by 5:00 p.m. Clarification on Dog, Livestock and Horse E-Records Youth MUST receive a minimum of 70% on their 2012 dog, livestock and horse E-Records to be eligible to show the project at the 2013 Pueblo County Fair. If the youth doesn’t show the project at the 2012 county fair, and did not drop the project by the add/drop date of March 15 and intends to show the project at the 2013 county fair, the youth is still responsible for completing a record book to avoid a score of 0%. Late Fair Deadlines The deadlines set by the Pueblo County Fair Board to include but not to be limited to the following: Entries, Nomination Cards, Registrations, Record books, are to be submitted to the appropriate place by the specified date and time. Those that are not turned in at the specified deadline will be considered late. All late items will be accepted for a period of five business days following the deadline for a fee. The late fee is $25.00 per 4-H/FFA member, not to exceed $50.00 per family. Fees are made payable to the Pueblo County 4-H Foundation. THERE WILL BE NO ACCEPTANCE OF ITEMS SUBMITTED BEYOND THE SPECIFIED GRACE PERIOD (FIVE BUSINESS DAYS) FOR THAT SPECIFIC DEADLINE. The late fee WILL NOT pertain to or include weigh-in dates, tests, wholesome meat statements (Animal care and housing forms), W-9s for the selling of animals through the Showcase Sale. Those must accompany the animal at time of sale, therefore if not turned in the animal is not eligible for the sale.

Mandatory Showcase Meeting Remember!!!! The next Mandatory Showcase Sale Meeting is Saturday, July 14, at 1:00 p.m. at the Events Center. Youth must attend this meeting to be able to sell!

SHOWCASE SALE INFORMATION AND DEADLINES

Thank You Note Policy: Thank you notes (in unsealed, addressed, stamped envelopes) must be turned in to the CSUE by August 15 by 5:00 p.m. Extension personnel will record receipt of thank you notes and mail them for the 4-H member. Thank you notes received between August 16 and September 10 will result in a $75.00 deduction from the premium check. If original thank you notes to all assigned buyers are not submitted by September 10 by 5:00 p.m. of the sale year, the entire premium will be forfeited. Completed e-Record book grades must be called in to the CSUE by the leader no later than September 10 by 5:00 p.m. or the member will be subject to a $75.00 deduction from the premium check. E-Records must have a minimum score of 70% or the youth will be subject to a $75.00 deduction.

W & W Feed and Bedding During Fair Remember – W & W Feed will have feed and bedding during County Fair. They are the contracted vendor on the State Fairgrounds. You must purchase all bedding from W&W Feeds.

PUEBLO COUNTY FAIR INFORMATION

Showcase Sale Bar-B-Q Tickets This year, tickets to the 4-H/FFA Showcase Sale Buyers Bar-B-Q must be purchased in advance. Adults tickets are $13.50, children 10 and younger are $9.00. Tickets must be purchased by July 11 and are available now at the Extension office.

Dog Show County Fair Set Up: The County Fair set-up will start on Sunday, July 8 at 12:00 noon. All available dog project members need to come by and help set up for the Dog Show.

COLORADO STATE FAIR INFORMATION

Teen Clerks The State 4-H Office is looking for teen clerks for the 2012 State Fair. Clerks are asked to arrive at Camp Tobin on Tuesday evening, August 14. The judging begins Wednesday, August 15 at noon and ends Friday, August 17 at 5pm. Applicants must be 13 years or older as of 12/31/11. The purpose is to assist with entering and judging of consumer science, general and natural resources projects; assist superintendents with contests and distribute 4-H information and answer questions at the 4-H Information Booths during State Fair. Applications are due in the State 4-H Office by July 1. Applications must be signed by the Extension Agent and are available in our office or on the state 4-H website.

Adult Volunteers Needed For State Fair Adult Display Volunteer – assists in setting up displays on August 18-19. You can select Home Economics Department or General and Natural Resources Dept. Volunteers receive Saturday evening dinner, lodging, breakfast and lunch Sunday. Display volunteers work with superintendents and building display supervisors setting up exhibits for display Adult Clerk Volunteer – 12 noon Wednesday through Friday, August 15-17 in the Home Economics Department or General and Natural Resources Department. Assists with entering and displaying of home economics, general and natural resources projects. 4-H Information Booth Volunteer – August 24 – September 3. There is a variety of two hour shifts to pick from. If a volunteer does 2 (2-hour) shifts, they receive a free meal. If a volunteer works a full day, they receive free meals and lodging at the 4-H Camp Tobin dormitory. Purpose – to staff information booth and answer questions for fair-goers on 4-H information, promote 4-H to the public and provide security for the projects on display.

State Fair Punch Passes Available Adults and youth who have some kind of direct participation/involvement with 4-H projects, contests or activities on the state fairgrounds may purchase one youth exhibitor 11-Day Punch Pass at $15.00 and one adult 11-Day Punch Pass at $35.00. Adult 5-day punch pass is $20.00 Money is due to the Extension Office by 5 p.m. Thursday, July 26. Youth competing in the following State Fair Contests will receive one free day pass per contestant, per contest: Fashion Review, Shooting Sports, Creative Cooks, Dog, Demonstration Contest, Cake Decorating Contest and Performing Arts Contest. State Fair Exhibit Entry Consumer Science and General Projects qualifying for State Fair must be checked into Pam and Carol at the State Fairgrounds August 15. Exhibits must be picked up September 4 between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. If you cannot personally drop off or pick up your exhibit, check to see if someone in your family or 4-H Club can do it for you. To qualify for State Fair, the exhibit must be the first blue in each unit. County projects do not qualify for State Fair.

Exciting news: Daniels Scholarship moves to open application process

We are excited to announce that, starting in fall 2012, students will no longer need a nomination to apply for the Daniels Scholarship. A new ―open application process‖ will allow students to initiate the scholarship application themselves, rather than the process beginning with a nomination from a referral agency. While the new approach will provide greater access to students interested in applying for the Daniels Scholarship, we will still rely on the assistance of high schools, youth serving agencies, and college prep providers to share the opportunity to apply with viable candidates and provide recommendations for their scholarship applications. Students will have access to the 2012-2013 online scholarship application via the Daniels Fund website. The students and all student- identified recommenders will also have access to an online portal to monitor progress during the scholarship application process. As in past years, the scholarship application will launch in early September and close in late November.

Report Form Workshop Need a little help with your report form? Never done a report form? Have questions about your present report form? Then this workshop is for you! The Extension Office personnel will offer an informational and working workshop to help you with your report form. Many of the awards, trips, camps, etc in Pueblo require that you turn in a national report form. This is not your record book – it is a ―scrapbook‖ of information about your total 4-H career. The workshop will be held on July 24th in the Extension Office meeting room from 5 – 9 pm. You can download a report form on our Pueblo County 4-H website. Report forms will be due August 13th by 5:00 pm. Plan to attend and bring all your questions!

National 4-H Congress 2012 National 4-H Congress is held in Atlanta, Georgia each year during the Thanksgiving weekend. A new and exciting opportunity has come from the State 4-H Office concerning who can attend National 4-H Congress. Delegates will be selected by Grand Champions at the State Fair. If any of the following winners are from Pueblo County the trip will be awarded pending approval and funds available in Pueblo County. Breads, Cake Decorating, Child Development, Clothing Construction, Electric, Specialty Foods, Heritage Arts, Home Environment, Photography, Leathercraft, Leadership, Model Rocketry, Shooting Sports and Woodworking Senior Grand Champions. You may only attend National Congress once in your 4-H career. If a member has more than one Grand Champion, the member can still only attend one time. The Reserve Grand Champion will not be moved up to fill the position if a member has more than one Grand Champion. Adult Chaperone: one adult chaperone will be selected by the State 4-H staff through an application process. Their vision for 2013 is to send 38 delegates from Colorado pending funds available. This is a new and exciting opportunity for the youth of Colorado.

Report Forms - Due August 13 Report Forms will be due in our office on later than August 13 at 5:00 p.m. If you are eligible for an Outstanding 4-H’er or Citizenship/Leadership Award, your report form will have to be turned in at this time so the committee can review them before interviews.

Adventure Day Camp The seventh Adventure Day Camp will be help August 1, 2, and 3. This is right before school starts so it is a perfect way for the summer to come to a close. If you have not volunteered your help is still needed; please call Pam.

Host Families Needed – 4-H Japanese Exchange - 2012

Host families are needed for 65 inbound Japanese boys and girls, ages 12-21, coming to Colorado through the 2012 inbound Colorado-Japan teen exchange. Hosting dates are July 23 – August 18 or July 25 – August 18. This program is coordinated through Colorado State University and has been running since 1975. Host families do not need to be a member of 4-H and may reside in urban, suburban, or rural settings throughout Colorado. They may share a room with their host sibling. Matches are made on the basis of same sex and close in age, as well as some common interests. Note: host siblings may be as young as nine to match with a 12 year old Japanese participant. All participants are 100 percent medically covered with 4-H insurance and may participate in host family vacations, camping trips, youth camps. They are expected to become part of the family, including attending church, helping with household chores, follow house rules, and participate in other aspects of us daily life. The program covers costs for the exchange. Each participant has his/her own spending money. Japanese participants will attend an orientation in Denver before going to host families and a debriefing in Denver before returning to Japan. Orientation for host families is done in Denver on the same day as delegate pickup. Carpools are planned to transport delegates to homes if host families are not able to attend orientation or pick up their exchange student. A complete orientation packet including program information, culture information, and complete application of the delegate they are hosting will be mailed to host families. Host siblings have the option of traveling to Japan to participate in a four or eight-week exchange while staying with Japanese host families and learning Japanese culture. Community Service Opportunity The Colorado Mission of Mercy is a large scale dental clinic that is held annually in a Colorado community. The concept is simple: create a two-day dental clinic to provide dental services to those who can’t afford it. The sixth annual COMOM will be held in Pueblo at the Colorado State Fairgrounds September 28th and 29th with clinic set up on September 27th and clinic take down September 30th. Volunteers are needed to help with this clinic. The donation of snacks is also needed. A list is available in the Extension Office or call Pueblo 4-H leader Sandy Koehn for information. Her contact number is 719-568-0947 or community chair is Karen Perko 719-542-0036. This would be a great fall community service opportunity for individuals and clubs.

Food Judges Training

Interested in becoming a certified food judge? You will learn the skills to judge competitive food entries at the county and state fair levels or just come and learn what judges’ look for in evaluating your county or state fair food entries. This class will be held Saturday, June 30th at the VIP clubhouse at the Colorado state Fairgrounds. Registration fee is $10.00 which includes lunch. Veteran food judges Karen Deck and Loretta Ivory will be teaching this class. To register call 719-404-2080 or entries are available in the Pueblo Extension Office. Deadline for registration is June 20, 2012.

4-H Camp Now is the time to register your child for 4-H camp. The camp will be held at the Beulah Mountain Park Environmental Center. Cost per member is $65.00 which includes linens and food. Dates for this camp are June 29, 30, and July 1. Your camp counselors have met and are planning a great time for you! This year’s theme will be ―the Olympics‖. The deadline for registration has been extended to June 11th – we need 40 campers to hold this camp. Applications are available in the extension office or on our website at pueblo.colostate.edu. Come join us for fun, food, games, and team building!

Incidents of Rabies In Skunks Is On the Rise in Colorado! The best source for the statistics of rabies surveillance in Colorado is the Colorado Department of Public Health and environment (cdphe) rabies webpage which can be accessed at: http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/dc/zoonosis/rabies/ the referenced webpage has many helpful resources for veterinarians, public health personnel, educators, and the public. Two important points are the following: Animal owners need to be aware that rabies is transferring from one species to another and they should monitor all animals for clinical signs. Local veterinarians are a valuable resource to help decide the best course of action to protect livestock and pets from rabies. Local health department officials in Pueblo are urging the vaccination of cats and dogs. For more information on horses and livestock, please visit the website listed above.

Upcoming Dog Shows The next dog show will be held Saturday, June 16 starting with registration at 8:30 and the show beginning at 9:30 a.m. Advanced show entries can be obtained on the Pueblo County 4-H website or through your 4-H leader. This show will be held in the Ag Palace and sponsored by the Mighty Dogs 4-H Club. All 4-H Obedience, Showmanship, and Rally classes will be offered. The third show will be sponsored by Greenhorn Valley Kickers and take place at Craver Middle School on Saturday, August 4. This will be a show-and-go type show and we will have our Pueblo County 4-H Dog Project Annual Pot Luck Lunch. This show will also be informal – you will not need to dress up for showmanship – this is a fun day, but scores will count for those needing an additional score before State Fair. State Fair placements will not be announced at County Fair, but will be announced shortly after the August 4 show. County Fair Dog Show will be held in the Ag Palace on Tuesday, July 10 starting with registration at 8:30 a.m. and show at 9:00 a.m. REMINDER – You must show your own dog that you own or co-own with someone; otherwise you will be showing for EXHIBITION ONLY and will receive a participation ribbon.

County Fair Test and e-Record Requirement Remember, you must score at least a 60% on your dog test to be able to show at the 2012 County Fair. If you took the test in May, you may call the Extension Office for your score. The final test date will be Monday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the 4-H Assembly and Dining Hall at the fairgrounds. Record books requirements include scoring at least a 70% on your e-record to be able to show in the dog project in 2013. If you did not drop your dog project by the add/drop date in March then you are required to do a record book to avoid a zero. If you do not do your record book and did not drop you will not be able to show dogs in 2013. E-records are due September 10. If you have questions about this policy, contact Carol in the Extension Office.

2012 Dog Test Policy 1. If you had a test score of 80% or better on your 2010 dog test and are not 11 or 14 4-H age this year, you DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE TEST . 2. If this is your first year in the dog project, you must take the test. You must pass with a 60% or better. Anyone with a learning disability should provide us with a letter from your school Special Education Teacher. Contact the office individually and the appropriate arrangements will be made to take the test. 3. If you score at least an 80%, you will not have to take the test until you move up to the next age group (8-10 Junior, 11-13 Intermediate, 14-18 Senior). 4. The test will be over the first three chapters of the new 4-H manual) 5. Final opportunity will be provided for testing.

An alternate of June 25 is available for those who take the test both times but do not pass, or for those with circumstances that make it impossible for them to attend on June 4. A list of May test scores and those who have tested out with an 80% is available at the Extension Office.

Feet N’ Fur will be held September 8th at the City Park Bark Park. Fun includes a silent auction, low cost vaccination clinic, great prizes for the top two who bring in the most sponsorship money, family friendly, city park pool dog swim, games and prizes. Outside shows for dog project: New this year – only one score from outside shows will be counted toward state fair eligibility so it is very important that you get copies of score sheets in to Carol in the Extension Office within one week after the outside show. We will use the highest score in each class entered from outside shows to count toward state fair eligibility. If you have any questions, contact your dog leader.

The Only Moneymaker For Horse Council Mark July 29 on your calendar and plan on spending the day earning money for the Pueblo County 4-H Horse Council. Last year the Horse Council earned $4,000 in a short amount of time. Little Britches has offered to let us do it again this year. They stated that we did a great job so we need to do the same this year. We are also planning a pizza party after the cleanup. MARK JULY 29 ON YOUR CALENDAR – WE NEED EVERYONE’S HELP!!!!!

Volunteers Needed For Summer Show and County Fair Horse Show

Remember, sign up sheets will be available for the Summer Show and County Fair Show at the next Horse Council test date and meetings in June. It is your responsibility to sign up when you help. We need everyone’s participation to make our horse shows run smoothly.

Round Robin Judging for Horse Records in 2012 The 4-H Horse Record Books for 2011/2012 will be judged with a ―round robin type judging‖ process. This is the same as last year. This is an opportunity for you to be an active part of the horse project in Pueblo County. If you would like to be part of this process, please contact Carol in the CSU Extension Office. This is a great way to learn what to look for and how to correctly fill out the horse e-records. Grading dates to be announced.

Stall Policy Stall Policy The Stall Policy for the Spring, Summer and County Fair will be as follows:

$15.00 per stall (this applies to full or part time use at shows)

If you do not clean your stall, an additional $10.00 will be due

Club leaders will be checking stalls after the shows and reported to superintendents and the office

Shavings must be purchased through WW FEed at the Colorado State Fairgrounds.

Tack stalls are no charge

Cleaning of stalls includes raking and piling outside the stall where a bobcat can scoop it up and dispose of it.

If we continue to do a good job at cleaning stalls, our fee will remain at $15.00; otherwise the fairgrounds can charge us up to $25.00 per stall. Let’s all work together and save some $$$$.

E-Record Grading Volunteers Volunteers are needed to help grade Shooting Sports E-Records on June 18 (NOTE CHANGE OF GRADING DATE) at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Please call the office or email Chris Cude to volunteer. This is a great learning opportunity as well as a good way to grade books before County Fair. You do not have to be a Shooting Sports Leader to help grade record books. An orientation will be given before the grading process begins.

Please note these dates may differ from previous newsletters. Remember, youth must have a hunter safety number in order to shoot at the county and state fairs. County Fair Potluck Dinner The Shooting Sports County Fair Pot Luck Dinner will be July 9, in the Dining Hall. Each club member should attend, and for every three attending, bring one main dish, one side dish and one dessert.

Whether you are turning a horse out to graze, taking a trail ride in the mountains, feeding hay, or deciding what trees to plant in or around your horse pasture, poisonous plants are always of concern. There are numerous native wild flowers and noxious weeds that can cause poisoning in horses that eat them. In addition some common desirable trees and shrubs used in landscaping can be hazardous to horses. Livestock e-Record Grading Leaders need to review livestock e-records and verify that the record book is up-to-date and correct on June 4th. A sticker will be provided for leaders to place on the record book showing verification that the 4-H leader has deemed the book acceptable by June 4. Leaders must inform the CSU Extension Office that books are acceptable and youth are qualified to show. After County Fair all Livestock leaders need to phone in the scores for books and bring in the books nominated for best record (one for each age group—Junior, Intermediate, Senior). These records will be due in the CSUE office on September 10, 2011 by 5:00 p.m.

Clarification on Livestock E-Records Youth MUST receive a minimum of 70% on their 2012 livestock e-Records to be eligible to show those livestock projects at the 2013 Pueblo County Fair. If the youth doesn’t show the projects at the 2012 county fair, and did not drop the project by the add/drop date of March 15 and intends to show the project at the 2013 County Fair, the youth is still responsible for completing a record book to avoid a score of 0%.

Douglas County Junior Livestock Show

June 2, 2012 – Douglas County Fairgrounds – included are goats, sheep, beef and rabbits. Cash prizes available. Registrations can be found at www.Douglascountyextension.org or contact Brenda Kwang at bkwang@Douglas.co.us

Wool Pool Collection This collection will be held June 16th from 9:00 am to noon at Cynthia Swick’s place, 34450 Hwy. 167, Fowler and hosted by the Southeast Colorado Wool Growers Association. All wool must be bagged in approved sacks or bales and separated into black face wool, white face wool, tags, bellies, and black wool. The SECWGA will collect the payment from the wool from the wool buyer and make payments to each participating producer. Market charges are 15 center per pound for non- SECWGA members. Kit Carson County Prospect Show Saturday, June 9th at the Kit Carson county fairgrounds in Burlington, Colorado. Classes available for beef, sheep, goat and swine showmanship and prospect market beef, sheet, goats and swine. For more information call: 719-346-5571 ext 302 or 719-349-2500. Pre entry not required, but appreciated.

2012 Livestock Test Policy 1. If you had a test score of 80% or better on your 2010 dog test and are not 11 or 14 4-H age this year, you DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE TEST . 2. If this is your first year in the dog project, you must take the test. You must pass with a 60% or better. Anyone with a learning disability should provide us with a letter from your school Special Education Teacher. Contact the office individually and the appropriate arrangements will be made to take the test. 3. If you score at least an 80%, you will not have to take the test until you move up to the next age group (8-10 Junior, 11-13 Intermediate, 14-18 Senior). 4. The test will be over the first three chapters of the new 4-H manual) 5. Final opportunity will be provided for testing.

June 4 — 6:30 p.m. — Dining Hall & 4-H Auditorium—State Fairgrounds — (Test follows MQA training)

An alternate of June 25 is available for those who take the test both times but do not pass, or for those with circumstances that make it impossible for them to attend on June 4. You must be able to come to the CSU Extension Office during regular business hours and be finished taking your test by 5:00 p.m. You MUST send a note to the Extension Office BEFORE June 4. There will NOT be an alternate MQA training offered. A list of May test scores and those who have tested out with an 80% is available at the Extension Office.
