Isaac residents, police officers and local dignitaries gathered to pay tribute to Queensland’s police officers, both serving and fallen on Tuesday September 29.

St Francis Anglican Church, Moranbah was again the venue for the district’s National Remembrance Day ceremony, conducted by Captain Reverend Stuart Haynes.

Moranbah’s full police regiment was joined at the ceremony by local officers from Nebo, Dysart, Middlemount and Clermont, with several officers reading passages to honour fallen comrades.

Mayor Anne Baker laid a wreath at the ceremony along with Middlemount Officer in Charge Sergeant Peter Clarke and Captain Reverend Stuart Haynes and his daughter.

Mayor Baker said that it was an honour to represent Isaac communities by speaking at the event.

“National Police Remembrance Day is a time to remember the sacrifices made by ordinary people under often extraordinary circumstances,” she said.

“For over 150 years our men and women in blue have pledged to put their own lives at risk in order to serve and protect our children, our communities and our nation.”

“Today I express my sincere appreciation to all officers who have fallen or been injured in the line of duty, their families and those who continue to serve.”

Moranbah’s Senior Sergeant Michael Bailey, also spoke at the event in appreciation of all police officers across Australia and the Pacific and the community members who came to support them.

“I would like to thank the families, friends and colleagues who have gathered here today in remembering the dedication, commitment and bravery of Queensland’s police officers both past and present,” he said.

“It is important to remember our fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We also commend and thank our currently serving officers who continue to serve Queensland’s communities with honour.”

Isaac Regional Council is inviting community members for their input and involvement in further developing key priorities for the region over the next five years.

Mayor Anne Baker said community members will be invited to stakeholder meetings and drop-in sessions across the region’s towns as well as a community leaders’ forum.

“Your ideas count - everyone has a part to play in the future of our community.

“Feedback will be captured in our Isaac 2020 Corporate Plan which details the activities that Council will focus on for the next 5 years,” Cr Baker said.

“With your input, Council strives to deliver programs and services the community can enjoy and be proud of.”

“We would really like as many community members as possible to come along and have a say.”

The plan has five clear strategic themes: Communities, Economy, Infrastructure, Environment and Governance.

This is Council’s second phase of consultation following a community consultation in May this year.

Community invited to ‘have your say days’

Clermont Pool updateCouncil understands the frustration regarding the swimming pool closures in Clermont, and the impact that it is currently having on all community members of Clermont.

This situation is absolutely not ideal and we are working as quickly as we can to rectify the problem.

It has been necessary to take immediate steps to close both pools for infrastructure reasons while we investigate options that could potentially permit a re-opening.

As a direct result of this issue a Special Council meeting was held on Wednesday October 7 to assess the current situation and consider all options.

We will provide the community with an update on both pools following this meeting in next week’s Clermont Rag.

Make noise - march against domestic violenceIsaac Regional Council and ELAM are joining a state-wide ‘Day of Action Against Domestic Violence’ this Sunday October 11.

Community members are invited to join Mayor Baker and community leaders to march in support of making safer families, better communities and ridding Australia of domestic violence

Mayor Anne Baker said domestic violence is a constant threat to community wellbeing and that the whole community has a responsibility to ensure families can feel safe.

“ELAM and Council invite you to join us in making noise about this unacceptable and growing problem,” she said.

“We hope to see strong community support at the march to show unity against an issue affecting every Australian community, including our own.”

Participants will be given whistles to ‘make noise’ and white armbands to wear during the march, and proceeds of all donations collected on the day will go to ELAM to support emergency housing of domestic violence victims.

You can register from 9am, with the march starting at 9.40am at the Moranbah Community Workers Club and ending at the Rotary Home and Leisure Expo on Ted Rolfe Oval.

Clermont photographer’s work on displayThe stunning macro photography of Clermont photographer, Kim Earl is currently on display at the Dysart Library until October 16.

The exhibition titled “Small Things” features very close-up images of beetles, flies, wasps and spiders. These portraits give a fascinating insight to the character and activities of Kim’s garden inhabitants.

This exhibition was prepared with the use of community frames purchased with assistance of the Isaac Regional Arts Development Fund 2014-15.

There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. CLASS DESCRIPTIONGut and Butt Blastis a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Boot campBoot camp is a type of outdoor group class that mixes your traditional calisthenic and body weight exercise with interval and strength training. Our boot camp incorporates; tyre flipping and throwing, battle rope work, kettlebell, fence climbing and much more! It is a work at your own pace class, designed to be challenging whilst also having fun!

Circuit trainingThis is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift circuitResistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.

MetafitThis is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Open gymThis is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

THUMP boxingis a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.

Vets GolfTen vets played a stroke competition and the winner was Barry Nasser with run downs to Lyn Ilott and Gary Manion. Barry had a good day carding two chip-ins and tying with Doug Allwood for the least putts 12.

Vets will continue to hit off at 2.00pm on Thursdays.
