2 A Word From Deacon Jim Boorman ... Welcome to the Second Week of Advent. You see Purple. Purple is a penitential or preparational color. In this case we prepare ourselves, our souls, our hearts, our families … and our communities … for the coming of our Messiah. In the 1st and 2nd readings we hear of the hope and mercy of God for Israel, His people, the hopes that they would carry out their mission for the Lord. But now we know what happened to Israel, don’t we? They did not live up to the hope or the love of God for the mission that he gave to them. They failed … Big Time … and if they do not come back together in the Lord then they will be doomed. Soooooo, here WE are, in the same boat, given our mission from God to go forth and proclaim the Good News and to Baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We know what has, and is, happening to the people of Israel … we can SEE it happening. What will happen to us if We don’t respond properly to Our mission. And keep n mind that “properly” does not mean simply going to “Church” once a week, for an hour or so, if it’s convenient, but it is a “Call To Action” to not only reach out to others and to support the Church. and it’s (read that as OUR) mission to the world … but to GROW the Church in an active manner To take up the Cross of the Mission and to carry it forward in a highly visible, vocal and active manner to the whole world. We will not accomplish this from a
pew for one hour a week, ignoring God and His desire and will for us the rest of the week … we WILL be in the same boat as Israel … on the very precipice of our eternal destruction. After all it was Not the Hebrews, or even the Romans, that crucified Jesus with their sins … it was You! And now you need to change your ways. God is a “Community” – Father, Son and Holy Spirit … The Body of Christ is a “Community” of the many parts of the Church … When Christ rises to the Father at the end of this creation, at the end of His 2nd Coming, He will rise with all the “Parts” of His Body. IF you have made yourself a “Part of His Body” … a supporting and contributing member of His Church … then you will rise with Him to eternal salvation. If you do NOT do your part in joining with and supporting your Church and it’s mission here on earth, then you will Not be a part of His Body and you will Not rise with him into Eternal Glory … it is just that simple … what do YOU need to receive from your community and do for your community to make that happen for you? Spend time in frequent prayer and reflection this Advent, listening to the Word of God for You n Holy Scripture, and ask God to inform and enlighten you to as your part in the mission of your community.

CTK ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: In today’s Gospel John the
Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord,” and this
is what Advent is all about. We are called to help prepare
the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of
Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and
to reach out to those in need. Is there a family you know
who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering
and poor to celebrate Christmas. Call 605 338-4111 and

The pain of abortion – from one who knows…“When I
found out I was pregnant, I was so scared and felt like I
didn’t know where to turn. I felt like I had no other
choice. After I had my abortion I felt relief at first. But after
7 years of denial it finally hit me. I was so scared when I
found out what an abortion really [is]. I was so angry at my
family and boyfriend (now husband). I felt like nobody was
there for me. I was angry at the clinic personnel for saying
everything would be fine. I found Project Rachel and they
helped me start to grieve [for] my child. So many women
feel that if they had more support and truth during their
crisis pregnancy many lives would have been saved.” Help
is available: Call 1-800-712-HELP.
