Chowan enters their seventh season of CIAA competition. This year’s team features eight returners led by seniors Alisha Mobley and Chantel Roberts. The Hawks welcome seven newcomers to the squad and look to build off of last year’s 13-14 overall finish in and 9-7 mark in CIAA play.

PATRICK MASHUDA enters his twelfth season at the helm of the women’s basketball program at Chowan. Mashuda also serves as Associate Athletic Director. Since taking over the program in 2004, Mashuda has accumulated a 134-167 over-all coaching record and took his team to the NCCAA South Region Tournament in three of his first five seasons as head coach. During the 2014-2015 season Chowan finished 13-14 overall and 9-7 in CIAA con-ference play. Dhyamond Crenshaw earned CIAA All-Tookie Team honors, while fellow teammate Alisha Mobley made the All-CIAA Team for the second consecu-tive year. The Hawks finished 12-16 overall and 6-10 in the CIAA during the 2013-14 season. Courtni Williams earned CIAA Rookie of the Year honors while Alisha Mobley was tabbed to the All-CIAA Team.

In 2012-2013, the Hawks tallied a 5-21 overall record. Mashuda guided stand-out PATRICK MASHUDA

Talaya Lynch to her third selection to the All-CIAA Team. Lynch ended her career with the Hawks with 1,412 points and 578 total rebounds and ranks second in the Chowan University record book for career points.

The 2011-2012 team saw the program reach new heights. January 26th, 2012 proved to be a historic night as Coach Mashuda earned his 100th career win in a 68-59 victory over Elizabeth City State, and freshman Summer Curtis tied the school record for blocks in a single season.

Mashuda led the Hawks to the CIAA semi-final game for the first time since entering the tournament in 2010. In the first round, All-CIAA Ransheda Jennings led the Hawks past Fayetteville State University with a buzzer beater shot. All-CIAA Talaya Lynch stepped up against Virginia Union, scoring 19 points to lead the Hawks to a 58-32 win over Virginia Union to advance to the semi-final game against Johnson C. Smith University. Summer Curtis was named to the CIAA All-Rookie team and tallied a staggering 79 blocks in her first season for the Hawks.

In 2010-2011, Chowan competed in their second season as a member of the storied CIAA, where Mashuda led his program to an 11-7 CIAA record and a tie for first place in the North Division. His team improved to 15-13 overall, which included a five-game conference winning streak. Mashuda led the Hawks to their first ever CIAA Tourna-ment victory, a 56-53 come from behind win over Livingstone College on February 28th. Ransheda Jennings and Talaya Lynch were named to the 2010-2011 All-CIAA Team.

Mashuda is also a part of the Chowan University Athletics Management Team as the Associate Athletic Director, a position he has held since the school transitioned to Division II status in 2005-06.

Mashuda comes to Chowan by way of Pittsburgh, PA where he attended Mars High School. Upon graduation from Mars he went to Butler County Community College in Butler, PA where he played golf and basketball. He received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and went on to Robert Morris University in December of 1992, where he was a two-year member of the golf team. Mashuda resides in Murfreesboro.

DOMINIQUE DUCKASSISTANT COACH

DOMINIQUE DUCK enters her first season with the Hawks and serves as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

Head Coach Patrick Mashuda noted, “We are blessed to find such a quality per-son with a true passion for the game. Dominique brings with her outstanding experience as a player at Western Kentucky as well as her time as a coach in the Western PA Bruins AAU program. I believe we have two young coaching super-stars working with our program”.

Duck added, “I am extremely excited to work with Coach Mashuda and to be part of the Chowan Hawks family. I look forward to this upcoming season and to bringing my passion and love for the game of basketball with me every day to work”.

Prior to coming to Chowan, Duck gained coaching experience in the youthbasketball arena. She has served as head coach for the Western PA Bruins tenth and fifth grade AAU teams, respectively, and has also served as Assistant Coach/Head Junior Varsity Coach at Penn Hills High School and the Pittsburgh Obama Academy. At each stop, Duck worked to mentor youth basketball players while teaching them fundamentals of the game, sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline.

Duck served as a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock University from 2010-2011 where she assisted in oppo-nent scouting, developed practice plans, monitored student-athlete academic progress and aided the coaches’ recruiting efforts.

Duck competed as a women’s basketball student-athlete at Western Kentucky University. She served as a team captain for two seasons and was named Sun Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2008. Duck concluded her collegiate playing career as the No. 16 scorer in Western Kentucky program history with 1,344 points while setting the school record for career games played (137), tied for third in games started (121) and was ranked seventh in blocked shots (113).

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Western Kentucky University. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native resides in Murfreesboro.

TAMORIA HOLMES enters her second season with the Hawks and serves as an assistant coach. In the 2014-2015 season Holmes helped guide the Hawks to their first-ever victory over Virginia State in women's basketball program history.

Mashuda noted, “Tamoria was a gifted player at Howard and I have every expec-tation that she will be equally as gifted as a coach. We are excited to have her on staff.”

Holmes attended Howard University where she competed on the women’s basketball team for four seasons. She was a two-year captain for the Bison and made three appearances in the MEAC Championship over the course of four years.

In 2012, she earned First Team All-MEAC honors, was named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team and was the leading scorer in the conference (18.3 points per game). That same season she was named to the Boxtorow Division I Women’s HBCU All-American Second Team. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science in August of 2013.

Holmes gained coaching experience through involvement as a camp counselor at the University of North Carolina women’s basketball camp and Towson University men’s basketball camp. Prior to coming to Chowan, Holmes worked at the Maryland Athletic Club and Wellness Center where she worked specifically with member hospitality, customer service, and handled retail and account transactions while functioning as a liaison with all departments of the center.

Holmes is working towards a Master of Health Science degree from Towson University. She currently resides in Murfreesboro.

The Hawks enter the 2015-2016 season ready make a statement with a balanced mix of returners and newcomers along with a challenging schedule. The Chowan women’s basketball team enters their twelfth season under the direction of Head Coach Patrick Mashuda and embarks on their seventh season as part of the storied CIAA. Chowan posted a 13-14 overall record and a 9-7 mark against CIAA competition one year ago. The Hawks graduated seven seniors at the conclusion of the 2014-2015 campaign and will rely on a deep bench to help fill the void. Mashuda noted, “We look forward to taking the program to the next level…getting over .500, competing for a CIAA Northern Division title, and winning games in Charlotte. “ This year’s roster features eight returners and seven newcomers led by lone senior Alisha Mobley. Mobley, a two-time All-CIAA honoree, returns to the court for her final season with the Chowan Blue and White after averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game and hauling in 7.3 rebounds per outing last year. The Winchester, Virginia native was the Hawks’ leading scorer on fourteen occasions last season including a career-best 30 point outing in Chowan’s 73-58 loss to Winston-Salem State University in the opening round of the CIAA Tournament. Fellow starter Chantel Roberts embarks on her junior campaign after making 23 starts for the Chowan Blue and White as sophomore. She tallied 5.0 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Jordan Payne enters her junior season with the Hawks after a solid sophomore campaign. The Norfolk, Virginia native competed in all 27 games for Chowan while averaging 7.9 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per outing. CIAA All-Rookie selection Dhyamond Crenshaw competed in 24 games as a freshman while scoring 5.4 rebounds per game, averaging 3.3 rebounds per outing and notching 24 blocks. The Hawks welcome seven newcomers to this year’s squad with six freshmen and one transfer from Hampton University. Danielle Weldon, a native of Glen Allen, Virginia and graduate of Glen Allen High School will be counted on as a key contributor to the team.

“We have a nice blend of experienced players and talented newcomers. This is the deepest team we have had during my tenure,” stated Mashuda. The women’s basketball team also welcomes Dominique Duck as a new assistant coach. Duck competed as a four-year member and two-year captain on the Western Kentucky University women’s basketball team. Mashuda added, “Our staff is excited for the things this season can hold. We have great people and talented players which should yield consistently solid results. There is a definite shift in mindset, focus, and discipline with this team. We are early in the process, but the changed we have made have helped everyone get on the same page.” Chowan tips-off their season on November 13th and 14th when the Hawks travel to Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania to take on Seton Hill University and Slippery Rock University. Chowan heads to Shepherd University on November 18th before taking on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania on November 24th in the Helms Center.

career with the Hawks last season. She owns the single game blocked shots record (8), season blocked shots record (79, 2011-2012) and career blocked shots record (242).
