No detail overlooked in order to reach the utmost elegance. That is why Carpanelli designs its own furniture proposals by focusing on the most precious wood essences (as an exam-ple, the Italian Journey Collection essences are enclosed) alongside details in other materials such as lacquering, mar-bles and metals marked by the refinement of finishes.

Hallmark of an “exclusive project” is not to show the opulen-ce of materials but to study their characteristics matching them in such a way that the furnishing object is elegant and harmonious in its complexity.

In marquetry and in its masterly combinations, the natural veins create aesthetic motifs enhancing the value itself. Besi-des, the coating with veneer on dynamic and bent, perforated and inlaid surfaces further boosts the processing: a feature of the concern production.

Figured Maple

Some wood species can present three-dimensional patterns impressed in the fibre making them PRECIOUS: Burls, Figu-red, Pomellé and Bird’s eyes are a true gift of Nature. In the dyeing process they are enhanced and the wood offers

shimmering reflections such as silk or velvet.

In 555 Collection they are marked by “T” indicating the three-dimensionality.

PRECIOUS WOODS

The term Figured describes overlapping stripes generated inside the trunk conferring luminescence and iridescence reflections.

Erable or Bird’s Eye Maple

The Erable (or Bird’s Eye Maple) is a precious, three-dimen-sional North American wood. The eyes are originated from a natural phenomenon that is from the footprints left by the drops of frozen sap during the rigid North-American winters. A seasonal phenomenon characterized by strong temperatu-re changes, year after year.

Eucalyptus Pomelé

The Pommelé effect is due to circular and soft volutes of the fibre, without outgrowths and eyes as in the case of Burls.

Madrona Burl

The Burl is a trunk excrescence. It contains an irregular and energetic development of the wood fibre, creating the so-cal-led “Burl Eyes”.

The real distinguishing mark of Made in Italy is not only the mere fact that a product is manufactured in Italy, but above all that it owns that creative talent making Italian products unique and appreciated all over the world. This is why Car-panelli reinvents itself every year, trying to interpret the furni-shing trends in order to offer a total look inspired by the most

refined Italian Style of Life, famous all over the world.Carpanelli tries to differentiate the proposals with the origi-nality and elegance characterizing Made in Italy by creating a so-called “beautiful and well-done” product, embellished with elegant high cabinetmaking techniques.

Carpanelli is one of the world leaders not only for the ability to carry out inlays rich in refinement and elegance but mainly for the continuous activity of research and stylistic updating. The inlay or wooden inlay is a type of decoration that is achie-ved by putting together minute pieces of wood or other mate-rials in different colours. Already widespread in the fourteenth

century, between 1440 and 1550, it reached its maximum splendour, developing what André Chastel called “Cubism of the Renaissance.” Up until the 15th century, marquetry re-mained an artistic form practiced essentially only in Italy; later it spread, albeit very cautiously, even beyond the Alps.

THE ART OF INLAY

Bending the natural woods is a difficult and rare technique to be realized, when it is combined with inlays and precious woods.“It is not the right angle that attracts me, nor the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. What attracts me is the

free and sensual curve - the curve that I find in the moun-tains of my country, in the sinuous course of its rivers and in the bodies of its beautiful women. Of curves is made all the universe.” (Oscar Niemeyer).

The timber supply and the forest management can and must be done according to the laws of sustainability and respect for peoples and Nature. We contribute substantially to respect and protection of our planet by using reforestation and FSC® certified wood by TABU.

The use of FSC® certified wood species by Tabu, according to the following table, will be positively evaluated in the Car-panelli Award:

design of multilaminar veneers, industrial inlays, three-dimensional surfaces or furnishing

accessories, made with the use of TABU surfaces and FSC certified wood.

Special mention by FSC Italy

In addition to the prizes guaranteed by the competition, there will be a special FSC mention

for projects involving a greater presence of FSC certified material (compared to the total

volume of the prototype) and / or particular attention to the FSC proven provenance of the

used tree species. Therefore, the attention of the designer must focus on using, fully or partly,

the wood veneers of the Tabu Collection 555.18 (see box below), indicating in the project file

the commercial name, the tree species and the type of FSC certification (100% or mixed).

The FSC® forest certification and the internal traceability system

The FSC® forest certification identifies products containing wood from forests that are managed correctly and respon-sibly according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.

The source forest is independently controlled and evalua-ted in accordance with good forest management principles, which have been established and approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, (Principles and Criteria of good Forest management), through participation and consent by the in-volved parties.

FSC® includes among its NGO members and some of the world’s leading environment groups (WWF and Greenpe-ace), social organizations (the National Aboriginal Forestry Association of Canada), forest owners, companies that tra-de and deal with wood, groups of Mass Distribution, scien-tists and technicians, for a total of almost 900 members.

FSC® works to take care of our forests and those who rely on them: by protecting plant (biodiversity and ecological processes) and animal species, indigenous peoples rights, forest workers’ safety.

FSC’s vision is that the world’s forests meet the social, eco-logical, and economic rights and needs of the present ge-neration without compromising those of future generations: that is sustainability!

TABU has been FSC® certified since 2003: it is the link of a “chain of custody” among FSC® certified companies and a long list of wood species is available in the certification and guaranteed by an internal traceability system.
