Total Air Transport TurnoverFrom 1978-2008, the average annual growth of air transport turnover of China was 17.5%. In 1978 total turnover was 298.6 million ton-kilometers and in 2008 it reached 37.68 billion ton-kilometers.

Passenger Traffic
1978-2008, Passenger growth rate 15.9%. In 1978, passenger traffic was 2.31 million, in 2008 it hit 190 million.

1978-2008, Cargo & Mail growth rate 14.9%. In 1978 , cargo & mail was 64000 tons, in 2008 was 4.07 million tons.

From 1978 to 2008, China’s average GDP growth was 9.6%. Air transport average growth was 17.5%, 1.82 times of GDP growth rate.
According to forecast, the average GDP growth
will exceed 7% from 2000-2020.

33 public air carriers, including 9 all-cargo carriers;
1259 registered transport aircrafts,
1532 scheduled routes (1186 domestic, 49 Hong Kong and Macao routes, 297 international routes);
16 national airlines, operating 297 routes from/to 104 cities in 46 countries;
95 international airlines from 53 countries operating 388routes from/to the mainland.

Continuity – Maintain the continuity of aviation operations
Rule of Law – Strengthen law governing international civil
aviation

Universal Safety Oversight Audit
Programme (USOAP), was conducted in
China in April 2007. By May 2009, China
has achieved longest safety record of
15.56 million flying hours for 54 months.
1st ICAO Universal Security Audit
Programme (USAP), was conducted in
China in May 2004.

Programme (USAP), completed in China
on 14 April 2009.
