Guest Lecture Series on Enforcing Security Using SQL

Department of Computer Science and Engineering has successfully organized five day guest lecture

series on Database- Enforcing Security Using SQL from 17th

– 21st October 2016 organized by TOS

Technology Pvt Ltd, Noida and the resource person was Mr. Hemant Singh. The guest lecture

session started with the basics of DBMS and the need of database management system. He also told

hold the backbone of an organization; Its’ transactions, customers, employee info, financial data for

both the company and its customers, and much more all are held in databases, often left to the power

of a database administrator with no security training. Database security and integrity are essential

aspects of an organization’s security posture. The triad of confidentiality, integrity and availability is

the foundation of information security, and database security. Resource person divide the whole

course into the five modules: General security issues, MySQL access privilege system, User account

management and Encrypted connetctions. The best part of the guest lecture session was that it was

followed by hands-on session where students do various activities like access control of stage 1 and

stage 2, user name and password, adding and removing user accounts, password management, user

account locking, configuring MySQL to use encrypted connections ets.

Five days guest lecture session was concluded with Questionnaire session followed by Vote of

Intelligence. She elaborated the concept of Artificial Intelligence and computer vision. She threw some

light on the fact that how intelligent system can be built and worked upon. In addendum, she told about

how Robots can be built using AI and computer vision concept and how robots are useful in making life

easy. She showed some videos which were very helpful in understanding how robots are heading human

beings. She discussed some real world applications like KINECT – an initiated by Microsoft which is a

line of motion sensing input device, JARVIS – a bot prepared by Mark Zuckerberg to run his home

including lights, temperature, appliances, music and security and LANEHAWK- an application used By

Amazon in USA which detects and recognizes items as a part of transaction making sure stores get paid

for their bottom-of-the-basket items.
