It’s Not About Who’s the Fastest... The classic tale of the tortoise and the hare reminds us that people take life at different speeds and that one way is not necessarily better than another. In fact, in the story it is the slower animal that ends up arriving at the end first. In the same way, some of us seem to move very quickly through the hurdles we all face in our lives. Others need longer periods of time to process their feelings. For those of us who move more quickly, it can be painful to deal with someone else's slower pace. Yet, just like the tortoise and the hare, we all arrive at the same destination together. It's important to remember that we are not actually in a race to get somewhere ahead of someone else. Whether you count yourself among the fast movers or as one of the slower folks, if we simply respect the pace that others choose for themselves, we can keep our eye on our very own journey. Because, in the end, it really is about the quality of the journey not how fast we arrived. Volunteer Opportunities

Leisure Activities

Art & Music Classes

The Day Services Program incorporates volunteering opportunities for participants throughout the year. We regularly ring the bells for The Salvation Army during the holiday season and we saved up tabs from cans and donated them to Grace Congregat iona l Uni ted Church of Christ.

Art and Music classes round out our days with f u n a n d p e r s o n a l expression. We love to get movin’ and groovin’ and get up and dance. There are always art projects to work on and special art projects like the Tye Dye T-shirts Day!

What can we say? We love to garden, cook, have visitors, celebrate holidays and spend our days at Ascend!

You think reporting an injury to your boss is bad? Try hiding it for a few weeks and then reporting it. Delayed injury reporting can increase workers’comp costs by up to 51% as the condition gets worse, according to a recent study by the National Council on Compensation Insurance. The average cost for a workplace injury reported within two weeks was the lowest at $13,120. Costs keep getting higher and higher after two weeks. Another reason not to hide injuries. If you injure yourself at work you must fill out an incident report immediately that day and turn it in to Human Resources.

Mobile Work Crew Expands Services at Classic Coatings!

Ascend Services met with Brett Markowski, Plant Manager at Classic Coatings about a new job opportunity. They felt it would be a good fit for our Mobile Work Crew Program! However, they would need more people than are currently on the Mobile Work Crew at their facility. Our Mobile Work Crews rose to the challenge! We have added a second crew of people to take on the new job. It is a wonderful partnership, e s p e c i a l l y w h e n a c o m p a n y recognizes the value in employing people with disabilities. Our crews show up on time and ready to work every day! Way to go guys for impressing us with your positive attitude every day and your strong work ethic!
