What is Anatomy and Physiology?

The word anatomy is derived from the Greek ana, meaning “apart”, and tome, meaning “a

cutting”. Together they mean “dissection”, which began when Greeks would dissect cadavers to

learn more about their structure.

Anatomy – is the study of structures of the body and the relationship among structures.

What is Anatomy and Physiology?

On the other hand, the word physiology is derived from the Greek physis, meaning “nature” and

logos, meaning “study of”.

Physiology – is the study of functions of the parts of the body

Physiology is dependent on anatomy because a body part is able to perform a specific functiondo to the part’s specific Structure.
