learn about the Human Growth and Development Program on Thursday, February 22 at 6:00 p.m. in Central’s Cafeteria. Mrs. Dana Herald, School Nurse, Mr. David McCutcheon, Gr. 5 teacher and Mr. Paul Nail, Gr.4 teacher will discuss the program and have materials available for your review. Barnes & Noble Family Night & Book Fair – The Barnes & Noble Family Night & Book Fair is coming soon! The event is Thursday, March 1 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at the Waterworks Mall. We hope to see you there! Please see the attached flyer for details.  

Read Across America Local Author Visit – As part of our “Read Across America” Celebration, Central will be hosting local children’s book author, Paul Orshoski, on March 2 at Central. Families have the opportunity to purchase signed books directly from the author. See the attached flyer and order forms for details.  

WQED Local Author Visit – Caroline Carlson, author of the “The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates” book series will hold an assembly for students on Friday, February 23.  

PSSA Testing – Attention Parents of Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5! The state mandated PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) will be administered to all student in grades 3-5 in April and May. More detailed information regarding the testing will be published closer to the testing dates. The purpose of this early notification is to alert you to the fact that these tests will be administered the weeks of April 9 – 13, April 16 – 20 and April 23 - 27 (Grade 4 only). It is imperative that all students are present during the testing window. Again, more detailed testing information will be sent home to you at a later date.

Arrival and Dismissal Student Safety - Student safety is paramount! Please be mindful of the following safety tips when dropping off or picking up your student from school. Thank you for your cooperation. o During arrival to school, please do not pass any car in the drop-off loop, as a student may be exiting

a vehicle on the left. o If you are going to take a long-time for any reason while dropping off in the side loop, then you

should park your car in the parking lot and not hold up traffic. The loop is intended for quick drop-off.

o Please do not park in the bus lane (in front of the school) during dismissal 3:00-3:40 p.m. You must park your car in the parking lot, if you need to enter the building for any reason.

o On side of the building at dismissal, you must park in the parking lot (not around the sidewalk) and walk into the school to sign-out your child.

o During dismissal at the side lobby, please use caution when exiting the building with your student and returning to your car. Vans use the loop to pick-up students from 3:10-3:40 p.m.

As part of Central Elementary School’s “Read Across America” Celebration, we will be hosting local children’s book author, Paul Orshoski, on March 2nd at Central.  Mr. Orshoski is a former teacher and coach from Ohio.  He will be doing a presentation for all Central students.   

 Families have the opportunity to purchase signed books directly from the author.

Beverly’s Birthdays, a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization, provides birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness and for

families in-need. Kids Care Club will be helping Beverly’s Birthdays spread birthday cheer by collecting items for their Itty Bitty Birthday Cheer program. This program provides birthday cheer bins filled with essential items for newborn babies. Beverly’s Birthdays partner with

agencies to host group baby showers.

“Someone Special Dance”

Friday, February 23, 2018

6:30 - 8:00 PM

Central Elementary Cafeteria Admission is $10 per student - includes DJ, carnation, photo,

cookies & punch

Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade may invite an adult that is someone special in their life to

attend the dance with them. This could be a mother, father, grandparent or any other adult that is special to

your child(ren). Suggested attire is casual dressy (khakis, simple dress). Please complete and submit the form

below with payment to reserve your place for this special event by Tuesday, Feb. 13. Label your payment

envelope “PTO Dance.” Students will give the envelope to their homeroom teacher to send to the office.
