Dear CCC members and friends, We hope you enjoyed Spring Festival and the opening of “Moment for Ink.” The celebra-tion this year was extraordinary - the event was standing room only - with 3000 people joining the celebration. We look forward to another productive year as CCC continues to serve the commu-nity with art and engagement activities.Preview our event calendar (p 4), and save the dates for a suite of rich programming and cultural events. Following our success with the ARTstor collaboration, celebrating the most innova-tive artistic expressions today, and a historic global WOMEN我們 exhibition, from Shanghai to San Francisco to Miami, CCC is thrilled to expand our reach to New York, Hangzhou, and Beijing in 2013.

CCC is also working hard to strengthen community engagement through Act 1, our sprouting youth empowerment initiative. Sign up for the new Dynasty to Democracy (D2D) Chinatown walk if you haven't done so. Have fun with Mandarin, using Chinatown and food as your learning environment in our class. In June, we will celebrate the opening of the Him Mark Lai Learning Center with a 'Meet your Role Model' series, connecting youth to their heritage and community activism. Moment for Ink Traveling Exhibition

Located in the heart of San Francisco, CCCArts promotes the most innovative artists today. CCC's visual art program and gallery chal-lenges perceptions, encourages risk-taking, and brings critical vis-ibility through open dialogue.

Born in 1916, Michael Sullivan (蘇立文) is the pre-eminent British art historian who has been a dear friend of Chinese Culture Foundation of San Fran-cisco. He is one of the major pioneers to educate the west on modern Chinese art history and criti-cism.

Traveling from the UK to America at 97 years old and in conjunction with the Moment for Ink Ex-hibition, Sullivan was joined by his student Britta Erickson, another highly respected scholar active in Chinese art.

The afternoon also premiered rare footage, com-missioned by Sullivan about Moment for Ink artist, ChangDai-ChieninCalifornia,filmedin1960s.

Spring Festival, an engaging and interactive festival celebrating the year of the snake !

This year, the Chinese Culture Foundation will im-plement our education initiative Act 1! through the Him Mark Lai Learning Center, designed to engage and empower youth through art and cul-ture. The Learning Center is the foundation of knowledge to encourage activism. As such, it will house the Chinatown Heritage Walk and “Meet Your Role Model” workshops, an education ini-tiative that reaches out to junior high and high school students from the Bay Area.

We thank Mrs. Laura Lai, Dr. Rolland and Mrs. Kathryn Lowe whose leadership and generosity have made this vision come alive!
