DescriptionTransformers,KOLMA_andKOLA_aresuitableforthemeasurementofthesumofthree-phasecurrentsina3-phasecable.Undernormaloperatingconditionsthissumiszero.Intheeventofanearth-faultthesumofthecurrentsisequaltotheearth-faulcurrentandacorrespondingcurrentflowsinthesecondary.

These transformersareused togetherwithstaticearth-fault relays.Thecablecurrenttransformerscangenerallybeusedwhenmeasuringtheresidualcurrente.g.toprewarnof,orlocateanearth-fault.Anbusbarorcableservesastheprimaryconductor.

HowtoselectthecorrectresidualcurrenttransformersThetransformerforanearth-faultrelayisselectedaccordingtodimensionofthewindow,andconstructionofthetransformer.

FortypesKOLMA06A1,andKOLMA06D1,thenumberofturnsusedinthesecondarywindingisselectedaccordingtotherelaysettingvalue,andtheearth-faultcurrentortherequiredcurrentratio.

InadditioncorrectfunctioningoftheearthfaultprotectionrelaysforKOLMA06A1andKOLMA06D1iseasytotestbymeansofthetestwinding(terminalsP1x-P2x)ofthetransformer.Thetestwindingisratedfor6Amax.continuouscurrent.

InstallationThe KOLMA-types must be installed before the cables and cable terminations areconnected.

WiththeKOLA06B2andKOLA06D2-types,theringcorecanbeopenedandthusthetransformercanbeinstalledeventhoughthecableisalreadyconnected.Thetwohalvesoftheringcorearetightenedtogetherwithfourscrewswhichalsoguidethehalvestothecorrectposition.Thesecondarywindingisdistributedoverbothhalvesofthecore.Thetwosectionsofthewindingareconnectedtogetherwithtwoconnectingpieces.

Cablecurrenttransformersarefastenedeitherbymeansofthefixingbaseorbythenutscastintothetransformerframe.Wheninstallingthetransformer,theeffectofthecurrentinthemetalarmourorintheprotectiveconductormustbeeliminated.Incasethemetalarmourortheprotectiveconductorisdrawnthroughthetransformer,theearthingcon-ductormustbedrawnbackthroughthetransformerforearthing.Theearthingconductorbetween the cable termination box and the transformer, must not be connected toconductivestructures,andthemetalcableterminationboxmustbeinsulatedfromthesupportingstructures.

Onamulti-ratiotransformertheunconnectedsecondarywindingterminalsandtestwind-ingmustnotbeshortcircuited.

Instructionsforinstallation

MountingofthecablecurrenttransformersThecablecurrenttransformermaybeinstalledeitherinverticalorinhorizontalposition.Itcanbemountedeitherbyusingbottominsertsorbyusingaseparatefixingbase,whichinturnsisfixedtothebottominserts.Whenusingthebottominsertsformounting,thescrews(M8)shallnotbetightenedinexcessofthenominaltorque;9Nm,forthescrews(M6)3.3Nm,otherwisedamagemayoccur.Useatorquespannerifnecessary.Thecurrenttransformercanbefastenedtothecablewhichactsasprimaryconductorbymeansofaspecialfixingpiece.Insuchcasesitmustbeinsuredthatthecableenduresthestraincausedbytheweightofthetransformer,especiallyincircumstanceswherevibrationisinvolved.Thesecondaryterminalscrews,sizeM5,mustnotbetightenedinexcessof2.5Nm(M41.0Nm).

FasteningoftheprimarycableThecableactingasprimarywindingshallbeenteredthroughtheopeninginthecablecurrenttransformer.Thismustbedonebeforethecableboxbelongingtothecableinsertedthroughtheprimaryopeningisinstalled.Ifthecableboxcanbeenteredthroughtheprimaryopeningevenwhenitisinstalledonthecable,theinstallationofthecableboxcanalsobedonebefore.WiththeKOLA06J2,thecablecurrenttransformercanbeopenedandthusthetransformercanbeinstalledeventhoughthecableisalreadyconnected.Thetwohalvesoftheringcorearetightenedtogetherwithfourscrewswhichalsoguidethehalvestothecorrectposition.Thesecondarywindingisdistributedoverbothhalvesofthecore.Thetwosectionofthewindingareconnectedtogetherwithtwoconnectingpieces.

NoteThesecondaryterminalsofthecurrenttransformershouldneverbeleftopen-circuited,becauseinthatcasehazardoushighvoltageswillbeinducedbetweenthesecondaryterminals.

InstructionsformaintenanceCablecurrenttransformersdonotneedtobemaintained.However,excessivedustorotherkindofdirtcanbebrushedoffthetransformer.Dirtytransformerscanbecleanedwithwater,spirit,petrolortoluene.Tracesofarcsandminorsurfacedamagescanbeeasilyremovedwithsandpaperafterwhichthesurfaceistobetreatedwithsiliconepaste.Epoxyresinsurfacesofthecurrenttransformerhavealsoahighresistancetochemicals.Thetransformerscanbeusedinareas,wheretheatmosphereincludescorrosivegasessuchassulphuricandnitrogenouscompoundsprovidedthatsecondaryterminalsandfixingbaseofthetransformershavebeenorderedtomeetthedemandsoftheoperatingatmosphere.Instructionsforrepairinggreatersurfacedamages(suchascracks)mustberequestedfromthemanufacturer.

AplicationThecurrenttransformerstypeKOLTaresuitableformountinginsidepowertransformersand are suitable for operating immersed in oil, under conditions of moderate andtropical climate.These current transformers are designed for supplying measurementand protection circuits of power systems operating under rated frequency of 50 Hz.

MarkingEachcurrenttransformerisfittedwithratingplateinaccordancewithIEC60044-1Stan-dard.Valuesofratedvoltageandratedpowerfrequencytestvoltageofinsulation–statedontheratingplate–relatetotheinsulationofsecondarywindings.Primaryandsecondaryterminalsaredirectlymarkedonthecurrenttransformer.

TransportWhiletransportedcurrenttransformersmustbeprotectedagainsthumidityandheavyshocks.Currenttransformerswiththeweightexceeding50kgandcurrenttransformersespeciallysensitivetoshocksaretransportedonwoodenpallets.

InstallationDuringinstallationofcurrenttransformersobservethefollowinginstructions:
