The sash is made of two shaped pieces flanking a belt piece. When tied, the shapedpieces form a full bow with angled tails. The seams that join the pieces are concealed

    within the knot.

IntroductionIntroductionIntroductionIntroductionSashes add flair and fit to tops, skirts anddresses. Sashes can be made from a simplestrip of fabric, but to get a really full bow, some shape is needed. This eBooklet

contains patterns and instructions formaking big beautiful bow sashes in a rangeof sizes. The belt length can be customizedso you can make sashes to go around waists, curtains, basket handles, and even specialpackages!

Important Safety Note: These sashes arenot intended for babies or young children.

As with any long tie, ribbon, or belt, sashescould pose a strangulation hazard. Pleasekeep them out of the reach of little ones!

Dress the recipient in the top or dressthat will be paired with the sash. If this isnot possible, have her wear something

    with a similar fit.

Measure around the torso at the positionwhere the sash will be worn.

If you are making the sash for aninanimate object like a curtain or a baskethandle, measure around the appropriatearea.

For the belt part of the sash, you will cut 2 strips of fabric. Use a rotary cutter or a

ruler and a square tool. The dimensions should be:

Width: Desired Finished Width* + Length: Waist (or object) Measurement + 1

    * See the previous page for width options for each size.

    Example: To make a 3 wide sash for a person with a 26 waist measurement, cut 2strips that are 3 x 27.

Pick the points out with a pin, if necessary. Roll the seams between yourfingers to work them out fully, then press.

Topstitch all the way around, 1/8 from the edges. Make sure that thestitching closes up the opening.

If you do not wish to topstitch, close the opening by hand stitching. Thestitching should fall within the knot, so it doesnt have to be perfect :) .

Tying the SashTying the SashTying the SashTying the SashLike all bows, this sash can be tied several different ways. The technique thatgives me the best results is described below (and in case you are wondering, my

very cooperative model is a 31 doll).

Cross the sash at the seams.
