Message from the MDFirst of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider Capital Cooling as your provider of refrigeration products and services. We are striving to be the best and to work with the best companies in the UK spanning the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors as we feel we can offer a service that no one else can.

When Capital Cooling was created back in 1996 we set out with one philosophy – to always supply the best quality equipment, backed up by excellent customer service. This philosophy still stands today as we continue to drive the business forward delivering quality and excellent value at all times.

As you can see, the company is growing at an exceptional rate with turnover more than doubling between 2005 and 2009 and this is down to the unique business model adopted by Capital Cooling. Our relatively flat management structure enables us to make key decisions quickly and to react to client needs and requests much faster than any of our competitors. Lead times are greatly reduced which allows us to deliver new products ahead of the competition.

The exponential expansion over the last 10 years has led to true National coverage – something which is very unique in our type of business. All goods and services provided by Capital Cooling are covered by our nationwide network of service engineers and warehouses while our UK head office in Edinburgh is supplemented by five additional locations in strategic positions around the country.

Capital Cooling secures the National service contract for Little Chef restaurants.

Sales & SupportIn 16 years Capital Cooling has came a long way – now the sole supplier of equipment to many of the UK’s blue chip businesses the unique way the company is ran allows us to succeed where others have not.

Back in 1996 Capital Cooling offered products from other manufacturers and had a UK based supply chain. Acting as an approved distributor for Foster, True, Arneg, Caravell, Koxka and many more Capital Cooling was able to build a signifi cant customer base in the surrounding area. To this day Capital Cooling remains one of Fosters largest UK distributors.

Identifying that the marketplace was growing and that there was a demand for more unique products it was decided that Capital Cooling would move into the design and manufacture of commercial products.

Investment was made in Research and Development facilities and the resulting products have set Capital Cooling aside from the rest of the market. Environmentally friendly chillers and freezers that are welcomed by both facilities managers and merchandisers alike have led to clients such as The Cooperative and Morrisons Supermarkets choosing Capital Cooling.Capital Cooling’s core products are now built

exclusively in Europe with factories in Italy, Turkey and Poland producing in excess of 12,000 cabinets per year. The portfolio now includes integral and remote multidecks, display refrigeration, storage refrigeration, ice machines and much more.

The product range and client base has grown as has the Sales Division – now employing key account managers, business development managers, fi eld sales agents, telesales staff and sales support – the business has came a long way from the days of Alister selling door to door.

Service Centre is set up to cope with the needs of every client.

Rebranded in 2011 as the Capital Cooling Service Division our National Service Centre is embarking on an exciting period within the business.

The Service Division Helpdesk is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week which means we are there when the customer really needs us. We understand that for your business time is money and any down time for your equipment can cost you and that’s why we aim to get an engineer to site as quickly as possible.

The aim of the Service Division is to offer clients a solution with is the perfect fit for their needs.

Capital ProductsIn 2010 the manufacturing side of the business was rebranded as Capital Products – opening up the door to supply wholesalers, shopfitters and distributors in the UK and the rest of the world.

Capital Products was created to manage the research, development and manufacturing side of the business and has been a key factor in our recent expansion.

Operating from our UK headquarters with factories around the globe, Capital Products produce tens of thousands of pieces of commercial refrigeration equipment every year. The Capital Products team work tirelessly to create industry leading refrigeration equipment and all products are designed with 3 main groups in mind – the end user, the merchandiser and the engineer. This ensures that our equipment is easy to use, easy to maintain and offers maximum merchandising opportunities.

The Capital Products team have been responsible for many industry firsts, including the first Integral Multideck from a UK Manufacturer to be accepted onto the Carbon Trust Energy Technology List.

2012 will see the addition of a bespoke test facility allowing products to be pushed to the limits in a controlled environment. This is a major investment and demonstrates the desire to improve all aspects of our organisation.

Our engineers have two targets – to arrive on site within the agreed time frame and to repair the equipment as quickly and cost effectively as possible. Their focus is on minimising equipment down time and disruption within the outlet as we understand that both can cost a client money.

We have 70+ engineers covering the UK and each one has a fully stocked van which contains the most common parts needed to get equipment up and running as soon as possible.

Working SMART

In 2011 Capital Cooling invested in an advanced Service Management System which streamlines the business and improves effi ciency.

SMART allows offi ce staff to assign jobs to engineers based on key criteria, including ETA on site, van stock and traffi c conditions. By taking into account this information SMART ensures that the most suitable engineer is always sent to the job.

With real time mapping of engineers locations and live traffi c updates SMART allows arrival times to accurately predicted and communicated to the client.

The benefi ts of SMART don’t fi nish when the engineer arrives on site, through the use of handheld devices engineers can apply for permits, process paper work, order parts and communicate with our in-house technical support team.

By using SMART Capital Cooling engineers can work faster, more effi ciently and with accurate recording of charges incurred.

The EnvironmentThe sceptre of irreversible climate change, energy price increases and raw material resource scarcity are key issues facing society in the 21st Century.

To combat against these triple threats governments such as the United Kingdom have enacted climate change legislation in an attempt to provide a framework within which business – the engine of society can adopt low carbon sustainable alternatives.

At Capital Cooling we are “committed to reducing our environmental impact of standard business practices and the development of cutting edge environmentally friendly products”. This focus on reducing environmental impact and the development of cutting edge environmentally friendly products began in 1999 with our first Environmental Report. Our first Environmental Report laid the seed for the development of our sustainability strategy.

In 2009 the company embarked on an integrated plan to align our process strategy with our innovative eco-efficient product strategy. Along the way we have successfully measured our Corporate Carbon Footprint, achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems certification and the Scottish

Green Award 2010 for Best Green SME. These achievements are all evolutionary steps in our ultimate goal of creating sustainable solutions for the refrigeration & air conditioning needs of society through the provision of carbon neutral products and services.

Capital Products - The Low Carbon Option

Greenhouse gases such as Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) have been identified under international agreements such as the Montreal and Kyoto Protocol as being harmful to our ozone layer. As a manufacturer of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to the commercial market we signalled our commitment to the Montreal Protocol by becoming the first UK manufacturer to have an integral multi-deck refrigerated cabinet containing zero ozone depleting hydrocarbon refrigerant approved on the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme.

Initial scientific analysis on our flagship TROY product range of hydrocarbon refrigeration equipment which when compared with other refrigeration equipment in the market has indicated:

Energy cost savings of 21% to 34% depending on the model chosen

Lower energy consumption of 21.21% - 33.33%* in terms of KWh per day

Purchase of our energy efficient Troy integral refrigerated cabinets has helped blue chip clients such as the Co-operative Group meet their obligations under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme and reduce their corporate carbon footprint.

Our Engineers:Each of our fi eld based engineers has a customised van fully stocked with the most common parts required to fi x equipment on the fi rst visit. Designed with a safe working area our engineers can carry out the majority of tasks on site in a controlled environment – keeping any equipment downtime to a minimum.

National Logistics:We have invested in two articulated lorries which have the sole task of keeping our warehouse and distribution hubs fi lled with our products. By having this fl exibility we are able to get equipment where it needs to be quickly and safely.

Delivery Vehicles:Our fl eet of delivery vehicles are on the road 7 days a week and cover the length and breadth of the country. Each one is staffed by trained installation engineers who ensure products are delivered, installed and operational before they leave the site.We have been investing in aerodynamic vehicles in our continued drive for a carbon neutral company.

As Capital Cooling has expanded our need for warehousing has done too and we now operate from 3 large distribution centres in Broxburn, Newbridge and Northampton giving us over 120,000 square feet of warehouse space.

Unlike many other refrigeration businesses out there we actually have our own stock and do not drop ship.

In general we now hold between £1.5m and £2m of stock at any given time across these three distribution centres and this allows us to reduce lead times for our clients.

All equipment is checked and tested prior to delivery ensuring that the client is up and running as quickly and effortlessly as possible.

From day one Capital Cooling has had the philosophy that investing in technology will be what sets the business apart from the competition and 16 years on we are still keeping to that commitment.

The Capital Cooling R&D team constantly strive to perfect new technology and are proud of their industry firsts, including the first UK manufacturer to have a Hydrocarbon Integral Multideck approved for the Carbon Trust Energy Technology List. Their task is to deliver refrigeration equipment which performs better than any other but with reduced energy consumption and environmental impact.

Similarly our IT team are challenged with delivering industry leading systems which not only benefit the business but clients as well. A recent investment of £250,000 was made in SMART – our Service Management and Resource Technology system which is the most advanced of its type in the industry. We can say with some confidence that there are very few refrigeration companies who have in-house software developers but we do – allowing for a consistent evolution of systems and operations.
