Caloundra Highlights
Term 2 - Week 16 - Friday 25th May 2018
LIGHTHOUSE
At lunch times we are encouraging our students to put their devices away and get involved in physical activity. We have set aside two lunch breaks, Thursdays and Fridays during first break, for the Robotics club where students can use Lego EV3 robotics, fly mini-drones and soon will be able to use Virtual Reality headsets.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOK
Caloundra SHS is now selling the 2018-2019 Entertainment Book (Book of discount vouchers to use on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane). Cost is $70 with $14 of this going to the school to support our Chaplaincy program. Use this link to purchase your book

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION Our Programs of Excellence classes continue to shine. The Surf Development Program holds
classes on a Tuesday morning at 6.50am with regular visits and input from legend Robbie Sher-well and our surfing staff, the junior surfers have improved their skills immeasurably. The Vol-leyball Excellence Program has also been delivering great success to our students through class time and in the competitions of the year. The Trish Buckley competition saw senior teams tak-ing home Gold medals with success from the junior teams resulting in Caloundra taking home the overall School Champion! Rugby League Development students are also achieving success with the year 7 team taking out the Justin Hodges’s 9’s carnival and being undefeated in their first Brisbane Broncos Gala day at Padua College. We are looking forward to continued success from our other year levels as they play in the upcoming competitions.
AIR FORCE SIMULATOR EXPERIENCE
Next Thursday (31st May) selected students in Yr 9-12 will be involved with the Air Force Simula-tor Experience (AFSE) as part of the Air Force annual South East Queensland Roadshow. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students. Please see the flyer for more details.
LOCAL SPORTING CHAMPIONS
Are you a young sportsperson or coach who needs to travel to attend state or national champi-onships, then you may be eligible for a $500 grant though the Federal Government grants an-nounced recently. For more information refer to Australian Sports Commission, Local Sporting Champions.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY CAMPAIGN - check your child’s cords and chargers!
Overstressed power cords and adaptors can be potential fire hazards. Protect yourself by following these simple precautions:
Regularly check your laptop’s power cord, AC adaptor and DC jack for exposed, frayed or split wires. Replace them straightaway if they appear damaged.
When wrapping the cord, leave some slack at each end where the cord enters the power adap-tor. Never wrap the cord tightly around the adaptor.
When using a laptop, make sure your power adaptor rests on a surface. Don’t let the adaptor hang from the laptop; this can break the laptop’s DC jack.
REMINDERS
Year 10 subject selection forms for semester two subjects are due back today. Please continue to drop off toiletry items to the office for our Toiletry bags for students at risk.
Happy P and C day on May 25th. The school would like to thank our tireless P and C members for the work that they do and the support they provide to the school. Julie Pozzoli Principal
