Katy Snelling Programmer, Oxford Playhouse and Burton Taylor Studio

Summer is on its way and no matter what the Great British weather throws at us this year, you’re guaranteed a warm and sunny welcome at the Burton Taylor Studio. For seven weeks University of Oxford students present a wide range of experimental, avant-garde theatre and hard hitting drama. From modern classics such as Patrick Marber’s Dealer’s Choice and Berkoff ’s The Trial to new writing and alternative comedy, there’s plenty to suit all tastes in Trinity term. We also have heaps of fun for families including a return visit by Tam Tam with messy, muddy discoveries in Curious and animal antics in A Roo in my Suitcase. For grown-ups there are first class dramas, storytelling, masses of music and, if you missed out on Hofesh Shechter’s Everyday Moments last summer, then you’re in luck. This amazing experience – 15 minutes between you and a pair of headphones, returns to the studio. With all tickets £10 or less, even if it’s raining outside, we hope you’ll find something to brighten your day.

Wednesday 10 July at 7.30pmMe, Mum & Dusty Springfield By Stephanie Ridings

“Mum’s funeral was last week. They were all there, Tom Jones, Chris de Burgh, Cher and Elton John. Everyone said it was very tasteful. Although there was some awkwardness when Tom Jones wanted to make up for ‘lost time’ but it had always been just me, mum and Dusty Springfield and I didn’t need a pseudo father-figure stepping in.”

A new comedy that reflects on the bond that binds mothers and daughters, people who are not quite what they seem and how we cope with loss when it’s just too late, all sprinkled with Dusty’s timeless lyrics.
