Speaker of the week

President Tapan invited Vice President Ashi Sarwal to introduce the Guest Speaker, Mr. Girija Pande. VP Ashi advised that Mr. Pande was a good friend and golfing partner, and with his tongue-in-cheek, added that it was a tough task to introduce a friend of more than a decade, because so much was known about him! He further added that Mr. Pande’s resume was very long and to excuse him for having to shorten his list of accomplishments.

Prior to giving his address, Mr. Pande jovially remarked that he accepted the invitation to speak to the Club in order to gain some handicap points for when he next joins President Tapan in a game of golf!Mr. Pande advised that his talk would focus on the long term scenario and not dwell on the “doom side” of the global economy. He highlighted four major trends such as the global centre returning to Asia, noting that China’s GDP would be surpassing the US’s soon. He noted that innovation was now a global phenomenon, citing comparisons in the trend in patents granted at selected patent offices in Japan, USA, Korea, China, Europe and Russian Federation.Another major trend mentioned by Mr. Pande was urbanization, and noted the massive urbanization in China, India and South-East Asia, which would create opportunities for investments in infrastructure and various industries. Mr. Pande also spoke on environment sustainability and global warming and highlighted the fact that China was the world’s biggest investor in renewable energy.Lastly, Mr. Pande spoke of the “march of technology”, which thanks to hi-tech devices, rich content and social media had created opportunities to reach unreachable consumers, enhanced customer experience, provided personalization and total customer view.

President Tapan called upon PP Stan Low who noted that it was always a pleasure to propose a vote of thanks on behalf of the Club. He thanked Mr. Pande for a great talk filled with optimism and facts which backed up his four points of focus.

The Guide to Daily LivingBefore doing the things we want to do, consider first, the precept of the guide. Ask ourselves these 4 questions and act upon them:First: Have I spent some time in self-examination?Second: Have I spent quality time with my family?Third: Have I given my best to my work?Fourth: Have I given some time to someone near and far?The Guide, in fact, encompasses the 4 parts of the Object of Rotary.
