What is Bulimia Nervosa???

*Bulimia Nervosa is a disorder characterized by episodes of overeating, usually foods with a high amount of calories and then vomit or do an excessive amount of exercise.

Associated Features

*Some of the symptoms for bulimia nervosa are…..

- feeling a lack of control over the food and also the amount being eaten.

-Food controls the person mentally . -Depression -Isolation

What causes bulimia nervosa?

* There are different reasons why this disorder is caused one of them is the person being concerned about their weight, mainly GAINING weight.

* Another reason is that the person does it so much that their body gets used to it and NEEDS it because they are concerned about themselves.

How common is this disorder?

*high school and college students add up to approximately 1%-2%.

* 0.2% of men have this disorder. * About 5%-15% have the symptoms

but don’t actually have bulimia disorder.

Treatments

* There are many types of treatment which can help bulimia disorders for example eating the NORMAL amount of food, therapy and helping control the amount eaten in certain time, and antidepressants which slow down a persons body. Fluoxetine (Prozac) Sertraline (Zoloft) ,Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluvoxamine (Luvox)

Outcomes of the disorder

*The outcomes of the disorder can be many such as…..

-weight gain -pains -sore throat -weakness and dizziness -the body looking in poor conditions - (females) lose of menstrual periods
