OUGD303 Brief 01 Fine Art Yearbook Board 1 FINE ART YEARBOOK - Publication & Promotional Flyer Brief - To design the 2012 yearbook for the BA (Hons) Fine Art course, along with any promotional material. The title of this year’s exhibition is ‘Original Rework’, which loosely explains how the students take their understanding of history and rework it to create their own original artwork. Concept - Working with the exhibition title ‘Original Rework’, we needed to make the yearbook stand out and catch people’s attention. We chose to rework some original images of spun paint through combining them together, creating a colourful and intriguing image that reflects the nature of the course. In collaboration with - Gemma Byrne Nat Jackson Nick Morgan Flyer - The purpose of the flyer is to act as promotional material for the exhibitions being sent through the post to various people, as an invitation to the events. The A6 flyer consistently holds the same information about the exhibitions as the yearbook, however due its shape it doesn’t allow for the yearbook’s cover to be utilized in the same way. Instead we used a cropped section of the spun image, to get the audience intrigued.

FINE ART YEARBOOK - Publication & Promotional Flyer

Brief -

To design the 2012 yearbook for the BA (Hons) Fine Art course, along with any promotional material.

The title of this year’s exhibition is ‘Original Rework’, which loosely explains how the students take their understanding of history and rework it to create their own original artwork.

FINE ART YEARBOOK - Grid

The Fine Art team requested double page spreads for each student to present one or two of their images that signified what they are about. The use of a 12 x 12 grid allowed us to composite these images in various ways, meaning the layout was suited to each individual, with their work being portrayed to its highest potential. The titles for the students’ names along with their personal statements and contact details, however, are situated in the same place to a keep a consistency across all the exhibitor pages.

The placement of this information was to keep the tone authoritative, showing who’s work it is, yet not to detract from the images. This meant the text has been kept quite simple and easily readable.

FINE ART YEARBOOK - Order of Content

To work the concept through from cover to content, we wanted to incorporate the colourfulness of the course. We decided to translate this to the order of content, of which bold colours where cherry picked from each students images, allowing us to create a gradient of the students work, giving us an order for the exhibitors.

FINE ART YEARBOOK - Special Projects

The inclusion of four double page spreads for Special Project, breaks down the exhibitor pages, being situated equally throughout the book. They stand out from the other pages with the text on the right hand page, and the full bleed antique/sepia toned images. This creates a sense of heritage and history of the course, as they look back at what they where involved in during their time on the course.
