VERSACOURT SALES TIPS

Qualify the lead/opportunity. Check out the location online beforehand, ensure that they have adequate space, and ask leading questions to determine if this is in their budget and this is the right product for them.

Attempt to schedule the appointment with both parties present (husband/wife/significant other).

Have the correct material for your presentation (samples, pictures, business cards, brochures, etc.).

Call ahead and confirm before the appointment to ensure they haven’t forgotten or had an emergency.

Upon arrival be organized, have your tape measure, flags, and most importantly game plan prepared. Don’t fumble around in the driveway with your materials, this can leave a bad first impression.

Quickly evaluate the surroundings to determine if there are any obvious obstacles that could cause problems with access and construction.

Be familiar with codes and regulations in the area. Failure to understand these can be expensive and time consuming.

Face to face intro: Mention how beautiful their home/property is or anything that they would take pride in.

Encourage them to move into the backyard so that you can paint a picture of the court for them. You should already have an idea of desired size, games, etc. from the initial call. Things to address once viewing the setting:

• Basketball hoop - will you be providing or is there an existing one?• Grading required• Confirm size• Extra soil from excavation• Bobcat access - address potential damage?• Extra gravel• Underground utilities• Power access if lighting is to be installed• Landscape repair

Once the court design in their setting is determined ask if you can move inside (or anywhere you can all sit down) and show them pictures of similar courts, samples, etc. This will encourage them to think and start making decisions. Ask them leading questions to move the process along.

Be prepared to provide them with an estimate. This can quickly be done by calculating the square footage x your selling price per f2. This price will apply to the court tile. Obviously, line painting and concrete need to be considered as well. Your selling price can include labor or this can be calculated separately. For larger jobs with multiple components it might be necessary to prepare an estimate after you leave.

THINGS TO KNOW

ABOUT VERSACOURT TILES:A VersaCourt game court is made up of tiles, each measuring 10.03” square. These tiles are connected by a simple, but precise interlocking mechanism. The picture shows the hook side and the receiver sides of the tile. (See image 1)

EXPANSION:VersaCourt tile is a polypropylene plastic floor, which expands and contracts with temperature changes. A 100’ floor can expand 2” on both sides lengthwise when the weather warms up to 100°F (37°C). For this reason, it is important that the tile be trimmed at least 1/2” from any stationary object such as a goal post or fence post. Tips on trimming your tile are outlined on Page 5. (See image 2)

SUBSURFACE PREPARATION:It is important that the surface of the substructure enables the VersaCourt to expand and contract. Asphalt, being oil based and rough, is inherently slippery and makes a very good subsurface, as well as a rough (medium broom) cement finish. If the tiles expand without being able to slide, it will start to buckle in various portions of your court.

VersaCourt can be laid over structural cracks (no wider than 1/2”) in the subsurface. Sharp cracks should be facetted or rounded so that the ball bounce is consistent and the tiles don’t “catch” when the floor expands and contracts. (See image 3)

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

STEP 1Review your packing slip and verify all materials are included and have not incurred any damage during shipping. (See Image 1)

STEP 2Review your custom, numbered court layout document found in your VersaCourt Installation Packet. (See Image 2)

STEP 3Confirm your base is ready for court tile installation and relocate your pallets to the install site.

STEP 4Unpack your tile pallets, remove and discard the plastic and cardboard wraps. (See Image 3)

Lay all the sections out without connecting them first to make sure everything is in proper place andtile are not damaged.

When laying out the sections of tile - position them so the "loop" or tab sides of the tileare facing the same way as noted on this layout (when facing the basketball goal, to yourleft and opposite side of the goal).

INSTALLING YOUR TILE

STEP 1The easiest way to install VersaCourt tile is to start in one corner with the hook end of the tiles facing to the right and down; or in a more basic description “pointing towards the corner”. Locate Panel #1 on your diagram and find panel #1 of your tile and simply lay the tile into place. (See Image 1)

Do not snap your tile together on this step. Lay each panel of tile next to each other until your court is fully laid out. You will snap your tiles together in Step 4.

STEP 2: Locate Panel #2 and lay into place, continuing in numerical order moving across your diagram until all panels are in place.

STEP 3: Step back and visually inspect to ensure sure your sections are in their proper place. Make sure the basketball lane lines up with your goal, as well with any tennis lines, logos and other lines matching your diagram, etc.

STEP 4: Snap your tiles together. Starting with #1 and move across your court in the same order you laid the tiles down. By gently stepping on the seams, starting at one corner, the hook ends are pressed into the receiver end for a strong hold. (See Image 2)

STEP 5: FOR COURTS 30’ X 30’ AND SMALLER ONLYSecure one edge of your basketball court. See Page 6 for instructions on Anchoring Tile To Subsurface.

STEP 6: Install your ramps and corner pieces. You will have 2 types of ramps, a receiver end and hook end, and 4 corner pieces. (See Image 4)

STEP 7:Remove all the numbered stickers and enjoy your new VersaCourt!

TRIMMING TILE

TRIMMING TO FIT:Trimming the tiles to fit along an edge or to go around an obstacle may be necessary in order to fit properly. If this is necessary for your installation there are several options available for cutting the tile.

The tile can be trimmed using a table saw as shown in image 1.

The tile can be trimmed with a hand-held circular saw as shown in image 2. You will need to use a fine tooth blade to keep the saw from chipping the tile. This method works well if you have several tiles that need to be trimmed to the same length.

Another method for trimming tile is a sharp razor knife or box knife as shown in image 3.

ANCHORING TILE

ANCHORING TILE TO SUBSURFACE:Courts which are smaller in size (typically 30’ x 30’ or less) and see a lot of activity may be susceptible to shifting. It is generally more noticeable on basketball courts. The tiles tend to shift towards the goal, which is caused by continuously running and stopping toward the goal.

Tools required• Power Drill - Hammer drill preferred, used for drilling the holes in the concrete and installing the concrete screws in place.• Concrete screws - Tapcon, 3/16” x 1 3/4”, countersink head. The box of screws typically comes with the necessary masonry drill bit.

STEP 1:Position the court tiles on the concrete slab so that the court is properly located with respect to the goal and the edges of the court. You will only anchor ONE SIDE of your court (the side OPPOSITE the basketball goal).

STEP 2:Using a hammer drill, drill a hole within the center (or middle) locking tab, every other tile along only ONE side of you court (side opposite the basketball goal). Transition ramps will cover these screws. (See image 1)

STEP 3: Install the Tapcon anchoring screws. Make sure not to over tighten the screws. (See image 2)

STEP 4: Install ramps as noted in STEP 6 on PAGE 2 of “INSTALLING YOUR TILE”. (See image 3)

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

REPLACING TILES: Tiles are replaced in a matter of seconds. Insert a hook or screwdriver into a hole closest to the corner of the tile which does not have receivers and pull up.

A leaf blower can be used to remove most debris. If the tile surface is dusty or dirty then a power washer can be used – be sure to set it on a low-pressure setting and do not directly spray the painted lines.

If you are utilizing an existing basketball hoop the make/model will need to be determined in order to supply VersaCourt with the correct overhang for court design. This is the distance from the front of the backboard to the goal post and will determine the number of tiles for the foul line; this is also known as the “safe play zone”. This information is standard for each Goalsetter model that we sell but needs to be relayed to VC if we are building the court for you.

Obtain a copy of the plat of survey for the property. Ensure it shows all current structures.

Make sure the placement is correct on the plat. Measure from foundation or metal corner stakes.

Have your court design ready with any logos, lines, and correct colors. Remember to also include all components such as hoops, nets, fencing, etc. for your customer’s sign-off.

Place the order with your VC representative.

Schedule concrete/asphalt with sub (if applicable) and provide them with a detailed map of the construction site. Include any details of fence work, plywood for grass, access obstacles/instructions, grade, extra gravel, pump, etc.

Call your local “811” (utilities locating service) at least two weeks prior to dig date.

TRIPLE CHECK EVERYTHING!

Make sure the timing for all aspects of the job is within your allotted schedule. If anything changes related to the construction provide EVERYONE involved with at least 48 hours advance notice. Occasionally last minute problems will arise but providing as much notice as possible will go a long way in solidifying your professional appearance.

Be there for the start of the dig! It is important for the customer to see your face and know that you are in control as the “GC” for the job.

In the unlikely event that all does not go perfectly remain calm and in control of the situation. Handling adversity with grace will once again keep the customer at ease and reinforce their confidence in you. Even if it’s really bad don’t let them see you sweat.

Once the sub-surface is complete follow-up with the customer to let them know the next steps (receiving material, install schedule, etc.) and applicable dates.

Build the court!

Following installation go over all of the aspects of the court with the customer (safety, components, maintenance, do’s and don’ts, etc.).

Remember to take pictures and ask for a referral letter.

Follow up with the customer a week or two after the install to ensure that all is well.

We have created this manual as a general guide for maintaining your tile, and as a tool for you to attain as many benefits as possible from your system.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

ABOUT VERSACOURT TILES:A VersaCourt game court is made up of tiles, each measuring 10.13” square. These tiles are connected by a simple, but precise interlocking mechanism. The picture shows the hook side and the receiver sides of the tile.

EXPANSION:VersaCourt tile is a polypropylene plastic floor, which expands and contracts with temperature changes. A 100’ floor can expand up to 6” on all sides when the weather warms up to 100°F (37°C). For this reason, it is important that the tile be trimmed at least 3” from any stationary object such as a goal post or fence post.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Basic precautions and care will insure that your VersaCourt surface will maintain its appearance and optimum performance for manyyears. These tips are not expensive and do not take a lot of time, but can do a lot to protect your investment for future use.

MAINTENANCE CLEANING:VersaCourt tile can be cleaned in a variety of ways. If it is an outdoor application, leaves, sticks, and trash can build up on the surface. A leaf blower can be used to remove most debris. If the tile surface is dusty or dirty then a power washer can be used – be sure to set it on a low-pressure setting and do not directly spray the painted lines.

Over time dirt, leaves, rocks and other debris may accumulate under the tile. If this does occur to the point where the tile is full, unsnap the tiles in large sections and slide the tile out of the way to clean the subsurface.

Precautions:• Keep any kind of flame (cigarettes, charcoal grills, fireworks, etc.) away from the surface.• Keep surface free of leaves, grass clippings, or other debris. A good leaf blower works well to help keep the surface clean.• Be careful when using any type of edging tools near the edge of the surface.• VersaCourt will resist the harmful effects of rain, snow, and ice. Some color loss is inherent in the product and will not affect the

quality of the surface.• Surface cleaning equipment, such as leaf blowers, will exude heat, do not to place these tools on the tile as damage may occur to

the surface.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will extreme heat and sun damage VersaCourt tile?VersaCourt tile is designed specifically for outdoor environments and is not adversely affected by heat or sun. The tiles are made from a proprietary blend of polypropylene with UV inhibitors to ensure durability and color fastness. The tiles do, however, expand and contract with changes in the temperature. For example, a 100 foot floor can expand 2 inches on both lengthwise sides when the weather warms up over 100°F (37°C). For this reason, it is important the tile be trimmed at least 1/2” from any stationary object such as a goal or fence post.

Will extreme cold damage VersaCourt outdoor courts?Our outdoor court tile is not harmed by extreme cold. In fact, our outdoor courts have been brittle tested to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

Can I drive over a VersaCourt game court?Yes, our outdoor tiles can be driven on. In fact, we regularly install courts on areas of driveways and many people use our tiles as flooring for their garages.

Are VersaCourt court tiles slippery when wet?Like most surfaces, VersaCourt tiles can be a little slippery when wet. However, the tile’s open grid design allows water to drain immediately so that it dries much more quickly than traditional surfaces like asphalt or concrete.

How long should I expect a VersaCourt game court to last?VersaCourt carries a 15-year limited warranty and a 25-30 year life expectancy. Plus, we add 20% more UV protection to our tiles than recommended. Like sunscreen preventing sunburn, the extra UV additive ensures vibrant and consistent colors long term, making it the foundation of our 15 year warranty.

How long does the game line painting last on VersaCourt game courts?Our outdoor basketball courts are painted with long-lasting polyurethane paint. Game lines painted on backyard basketball courts look “crisp” for 7 to 10 years.

Do I need a concrete base for my court?We definitely recommend using a 4” thick concrete base with #4 rebar reinforcement for most basketball courts as this base option tends to provide the most permanent solution with the best playability. However, we do have customers that are very happy with courts placed on an asphalt base. We don’t recommend compacted stone as a base, but due to building restrictions in some communities this option may be required.

Can I put the VersaCourt on my driveway?Assuming you have a large enough driveway to accommodate the court, placing your VersaCourt on it is an option. Our outdoor tiles are extremely durable and can be driven on without being damaged.

What if a tile becomes damaged?While it is very infrequent that tiles get damaged, it is nice to know that most can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Simply insert a hook or screwdriver into a hole closest to the corner of the tile which does not have loops and pull up.

What can I do if my court shifts on its surface?Courts which are smaller in size and see a lot of activity may be susceptible to shifting. This is generally more noticeable in basketball courts.
