A blood cell’s journey:

Describe the journey of a blood cell around the body

This particular blood cell will visit the little toe

Remember to describe:

- the different blood vessels it will use during its journey- the different organs the blood cell will meet along the way- what gases the blood cell will be full of along the journey- waste products and what happens to them

Write this in the first person and plan your story first.

Betty’s Journey - Plan• Betty the blood cell visits Hattie the heart.• Hattie pumps Betty out of the heart and Betty takes her Ferrari

along the artery down towards the legs.• She turns off the artery and into the capillaries. She exchanges the

Ferrari for some roller skates because the capillaries are so small and narrow.

• She gets to Tommy, one of the muscle cells in the toe. She gives him some Oxygen and takes away his Carbon Dioxide and other rubbish. She says “Cheerio” and leaves.

• She heads to the vein via the capillaries and zooms back up to the heart in her Ferrari.

• She stops off at the carwash (kidneys) and gets nice and clean.• She carries on to the Hattie who then pumps her to Lionel and Larry

the Lungs.• Betty gives them the Carbon Dioxide and Lionel and Larry give her

some more Oxygen.
