Dear Parents and Carers,

I am excited to say the community support, events and opportunities are popping up all over the place. Thank you for

this.

Three new opportunities this week:

Opportunity 1 – Would you like to take part? You only need 20 minutes.

The school eco council have previously organised a litter pick on site. Following a suggestion from the community it

would be great to take this wider. If you and your child would like to be a part of it simply meet on the ‘top playground’

after school on Monday 20th May. If you could, come armed with a pair of gardening type gloves and a bag to put the

litter into. (We are keen to not generate more waste so are avoiding handing out black bin bags or similar).

Opportunity 2

I have received a letter from ‘Bagborough and About’. They are

holding a photography competition which will see the winning

entries published into the calendar for 2020. They are very keen

to have some pictures taken by local children – we are their

nearest school. If you have a picture to share please send them

to the school email address. You never know it could be the start

of a photographic career.

Opportunity 3

The parish council have bought these phone boxes from BT and

would like ideas of what they could be turned into. Have a think,

your class teachers will ask you for ideas next week. It would be

great if we could offer support to help renovate these too. Let me

know if you would like to be part of this.

Trust Matters

This week we have paired with Staplegrove Primary School and worked

together to look at each others books to identify what really helps the children

of our schools to make progress.

Parent forum is next week, please do share your ideas, they are really appreciated.

Year 6 Congratulations to Year 6 who have worked and concentrated so hard all week, doing their very best in their SATs. There were lots of tasty treats to keep up their energy levels during the week and, today, they have enjoyed a well deserved ‘duvet day’! Well done Year 6!

Bikeability – please can you help? This year, we are fortunate to have been offered cycle training for the whole of Year 6. Each pupil will have the opportunity to take part in a two day course giving them the skills and confidence to ride their bikes safely on the road. In order for the courses to take place we will need parent volunteers. Volunteers will need a roadworthy bike and helmet. The courses will run from 17

th – 20

th June. If you are able to help for one or more days, please contact the

school office. Many thanks for your support. Green shed If any parents would be able to remove and dispose of the green shed on the top playground, please contact the school office. We would be very grateful for any help. Thank you.

Liturgical Prayer Cloth

We are delighted by the skill and generosity of St Mary’s Church. To help improve our

collective worship environment they have sewn new liturgical prayer cloths. The

current colour red helps us remember and celebrate the season of ‘Pentecost.’

Auction of Promises

The 2019 BLSA Auction of Promises website is now live! Please visit

https://auctionofpromises.com/2019BishopsLydeardSchool to see the brilliant

selection of prizes available. Happy bidding! Bids close online on 27th June,

reopening at the summer fete on Saturday 29th June where the final bids can be

placed.

Collective Advocacy

If your child is doing something to help make a difference to the world, please write a

description and/or take a photograph that we can display in school.
