MEET DAWNYEL AND JOHN Golf & Sports Members A Note From LAURA SCRIVNER, General Manager I would like start by extending my sincere gratitude to each of you that I have had the opportunity to meet or exchange emails with as well as the staff for making me feel very welcome during my first few months here at Bayside. I have met so many wonderful people and I look forward to introducing myself to the rest of the membership and getting to know each of you and your families as you are welcomed back for an exciting summer season. The last few months have been a very exciting time as I have been busy working with the team to make several changes that will enhance your member experiences at Bayside. We took a good look at each department and immediately made a few changes to the daily operations. Some little things we have tackled include putting logoed tees on all golf carts, sprucing up the merchandise and ordering bright new uniforms for the staff (you wouldn’t imagine the positive influence new uniforms have had on the staff, it is great to see their smiling faces!) Larger changes are taking place at the beautiful Sun Ridge facility to improve the space and most importantly, the overall guest experience. We have hired a full time manager to lead the improvements and to run the operation. Dawnyel Furlong joined our team less than 30 days ago and she brings not only a background in fitness and personal training but a very high standard of hospitality driven leadership. She will be working closely with John Massetti, Bayside Tennis Professional, to grow the tennis program and to offer great programming for all ages this season. We intend to offer fitness classes and activities year-round starting Memorial Day Weekend! The entire staff has embraced the transition to Troon Golf and we are all devoted to exceeding your expectations as a Bayside Member. Don’t miss all the excitement at Bayside over Memorial Day weekend; I look forward to seeing all of you at the Club over the holiday and often during the next few months! Happy summer! We were pleased to welcome the return of Neil Maurer to the CarlM Freeman family as the Associate Golf Professional for BaysideResort Golf Club. Neil has been assisting Bob Crowther and BillHamilton in golf operations as well as preparing and running golfevents, teaching golf lessons and he will be instrumental in growing

our junior program, including junior camps this summer.

Neil brings 15 years of experience in the golf industry and has been with Troon Golf for thepast 2 years. Neil was a touring professional for 4 years and a member of the NGA HootersTour, Tarheel Tour, The Gateway Tour, and The New England Pro Golf Tour.

With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, I wanted to leaveyou with a few simple spring golf thoughts:

• The lie of the golf ball always dictates what you can do with the shot.• Wind will affect the ball more than you think.

• The speed of a putt determines the line on which you should hit it.• Keep in mind the 30 second rule: good or bad, your golf shot should only be thought

about for thirty seconds after you hit it.• The game of golf is nothing more than getting the ball in the hole in as few as strokes as

you can that sometimes means laying up.• The grip is the only thing that connects you to the club; it has got to be right.• Anyone can have a great setup; all it requires is a bit of discipline and some practice.• Don’t forget about good nutrition on the golf course: drink plenty of water and

eat fresh fruits.

Have you signed up for the greatest deal in golf? Our June One-Day Members Guest isscheduled for the 5th. Be sure to sign-up by Memorial Day to reserve your spot. Also, as wehead into the summer season, we sure hope you make tee times often and be sure to reservethem as well in advance as you can to secure your most desired time. Enjoy the game!

Course Update ERIC HINDES, Golf Course Superintendent

We are in full swinghere at the maintenancedepartment, startingeach day at 5:30 AM toget out in front of you.All greens are mowed,

new cups are cut, all tee markers are moved, and every bunker is raked every morning. Wefinish approximately eighty five percent of ourwork ahead of play and try to finish all thenon-invasive jobs while working around playthe rest of the day.

Most of you know or have seen Gene’sfamiliar face around the club house as he isresponsible for the beautiful pots and flowers.Joining him this year, you can now also say hito Jimmy as well. Jimmy will be taking care ofthe grounds surrounding the clubhouse, drivingrange, Sun Ridge, and the Commons Pool.

We have had great weather for golf thisspring. With the increase in play, the golfcourse is showing a little cart traffic wear atthe areas where we enter and exit the fairways. Please keep in mind that when we allow cartsoff the path, golfers should adhere to the 90degree rule. Please do not enter the fairwaydirectly after the forward tees. Please followthe cart path to the furthest point near yourball and try to enter the fairway as close aspossible, on a 90 degree angle. After takingyour next shot, please follow the fairway to thegreen and exit before approaching the green. No cart should ever be within 10 yards of agreen. We utilize the green and white stakes atthe entrance points after the tee boxes tominimize the wear and we have the carts signsin the approaches and move them on a dailybasis to combat the traffic in these areas.

For those of you that prefer to walk, pleasebe aware to keep all pull carts off greens andtees and collars. The tires are so thin and withthe weight of the golf bag they leave tracks onthe tees and greens. Please try to keep them inthe fairways and roughs. We hope that youhave noticed areas that have been mowedbetween the tees. We will continue to monitorthese areas and we will mow additional pathsto benefit and promote walkers over thecoming weeks.

Please contact me at [email protected] you have any areas you want us to consideror if you just have any questions about thegolf course or our operations. I would loveto hear from you.
