I. Description problem:

While residing at a nursing home/ rehab facility, there can be a few challenges that

people have to deal with and a few living styles that people may have to become accustom to.

There are different reasons why people reside in the nursing home. Some of the reasons are to

receive the people care that they need and cannot receive at their own home, to recover from an

accident or surgery that was performed, to receive 24 hour care, etc. Every patient, no matter

what their reasons are for residing in a nursing home facility, should receive quality care.

Quality is the standard something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree

of excellence of something. Care on the other hand is defined as feel, concern, and protection of

something or someone. Every individual that enters the doors of a facility should be treated with

quality care.

II. Attributes to be measured:

Within the administered questionnaire I presented questions about quality care while at

Hill-View Terrace Rehab Select. Patients at Hill-View Terrace were asked to express their

attitudes about the treatment that they have received while residing at Hill-View Terrace. There

were three background questions that were asked on the survey to determine whether or not a

students age, classification, or gender played a particular role in their treatment while at the

facility. Some of the questions that were asked within the survey pertained to the patients

attitude about their call lights being answered in a timely manner, whether or not they enjoyed

the food that is served at the facility, their attitude about returning to the facility if they had to,

their attitude about referring others to the facility to receive care, and dhow they sleep at night

while they are at the facility. These particular questions were asked because there are numerous

factors that contribute to a patient receiving quality care. Not all patients have the same needs

and desires that have to be addressed.

III. Hypotheses, expectations, or research questions:

In result to the survey I hypothesize that the patients will respond in a fair manner that

displays that they do not hate the facility overall, but some areas can be improved. I think that the

patients are going to respond fairly about everything except for their call lights being answered

in a timely manner. I think that the patients will not have any complaints about the staff, medical

care, or the food that is served at the facility. I expect for some of the patients to respond in a

manner that shows that they have been receiving quality care at the facility. The reason being is

that all of the patients communicate daily about how well they are being treated at the facility.

The patients do not have a problem with communicating about what they do and do not like.

IV. Conclusion

From the results of the surveys, I have gathered that the patients at Hill-view Terrace are

receiving quality care. However, the amount of time that the patients call lights are being

answered needs to be improves. The patients seem to be displeased with the amount of time that

it takes a staff member or faculty member to answer their call light when signaled. The patients

responded that it takes up to 5-10 minutes for someone to answer their call light. The patients did

think that the food that is served at Hill-View Terrace is up-to-par. According to the results of the

survey, the patients 25% of the patients responded that the food that is served is rated a 4. This

means that the food is enjoyed by the patients. On the other hand, 75% of the patients rated the

food served a 5 which is the best. The results showed that the patients are more than likely and

likely to refer someone to the facility. This indicates that the residents are pleased with the

services and quality of care enough to where they are willing to recommend someone else to the

facility. Overall, the results show that the patients are well pleased with the care that they receive

at Hill-View Terrace.

The graph above displays how well the patients sleep at night. Fifty percent of the patients

stated that they sleep somewhat well at night and 50% of the rest of thepatients that were

surveyed stated that they sleep somewhat well at night as well. By the results that were presented

in the survey, I think that the patients are sleeping fairly well at the facility. Sleep does not seem

to have a negative effect on the quality of care that the patients receive. From the manner in

which the patients responded to the survey it is clear that the patient receiving rest at night is not

a problem while residing in the facility.

This particular graph depicts the residents races within the facility that participated in the survey

about their care while in the facility. The pie chart displays that the amount of individuals that

participated in the survey were of two races. The races that participated in the survey about their

care was 50% Caucasian and 50% were African American individuals. The race was an

important question in the survey because race may play a major part in the patients attitudes

about the type of care they are receiving within the facility. The two races that were participants

in the survey about the quality of care received at Hill-View Terrace were Caucasians and

African Americans. However, the facility serves a variety of races. Hill-View Terrace accepts

individuals of all races.

The ages of the patients that participated in the survey are displayed above. The patients that

participated in the survey fell between the ages of 64 years old and 75 years old. Over half of the

individuals that participated in the survey were over 75 years of age. This question served as a

major factor within the survey because a persons age may have an effect on their attitude about

the quality of service and the facility as a whole. When people are in different age ranges, it

reflects the manner of which they desire to be cared for and their non-tolerance for not being

treated with quality care. At a particular age, some patients are not too soft at expressing their

needs. At an older age people seem to be more vocal about their needs, wants and desires.
