Desmond de Silva concert, held inColombo recently, hoping to see thesinging legend reminiscent the past withsome of his popular English songs.

I knew Desmond as a singer of Englishsongs, performing with the Spitfires, etc.,and certainly not as a baila artiste.

I know of quite a few people who weredisappointed, seeing him perform mostlybailas, at his recent Colombo concert.

It was a baila session, from start to fin-ish.

The organisers should have remem-bered that we, in Sri Lanka, hear bailamusic 24/7. So why bring Desmond andget him, as well, to perform bailas!

I also thought he was too much glued tothe lyrics stand.

I hope if I do get the opportunity of see-ing Desmond perform again, he wouldgive us a balance of English and Sinhalasongs.”

night activities, but when there is something
