definitely don't want to miss.

Hawkeye has been lucky enough to

bring looping to the theater. For

those of you who are unsure what

looping entails, here is a quick over-

view.

Looping is a simple technology that

allows hearing assistive devices to

serve as wireless loudspeakers, de-

livering clear, sharp, customized

sound right from inside the ears. It

can be adapted

to use in large

public spaces,

such as airports

and auditoriums.

But it can just as

easily be in-

stalled in

churches, drive-

up business win-

dows and even into a single room at

home so the TV or stereo sound

becomes a broadcast going directly

through the hearing assistive device.

The induction loop is to hearing

aids, what Wi-Fi is to laptops.

Should you need the assistance of

looping, there are a couple of ways

to get this assistance:

Most hearing aides have the ability

to be looped, so if you have hearing

aides, there should be a small button

that you can click to turn on the

looping in your own hearing aide.

Hawkeye has a limited supply of

headsets that can be used to hear the

actors better. All you have to do is

go to the membership table and ask

for a looping headset, they will sign

it out to you and you will hear the

actors like they were right next to

you!

Hawkeye Community Theatre

will once again be holding our

annual member appreciation

picnic during the July show. This

is the third annual event and will

take place on Saturday, July 12,

2014, at 5:30 pm on the theatre

lawn.

Members are entitled to as many

free meals as the amount of

tickets that they get for a show,

any additional meals cost $5.00.

You will get the chance to meet

and mingle with the current board

members and patrons. We hope to

see you there!

The Annual July Show will be

the Rabbit Hole, a 2007 Pulitzer

Prize winner for drama, directed

by first-time director Adam Liker,

will show in early July.

Rabbit Hole is deeply humane,

occasionally funny and always

heartrending while giving us a

view of Becca and Howie

Corbett's life after a devastating

loss. Nat and Izzy, Becca's mother

and sister, try to comfort the

family in their own ways, which

don't always work out.

Jason, a young man who just

wants the family to accept an

apology, shows up and throws the

whole family into a storm of

confusion.

Hawkeye Community Theatre has

been blessed with three new board

members this year. To help you, the

patrons, get to know them, we will

spotlight a new board member for

each of the next three issues. This

months featured board member is

Adam Liker.

Adam is wrapping up his second year

as a Kindergarten through 8th grade

special education teacher for the Fort

Dodge Public Schools, stationed at

St. Edmond Catholic School. He is

also a tutor at the St. Edmond After

School program during the school

year. While not necessarily a

profession, but more of a “hobby”

job, he is a Zumba Fitness instructor.

He is also a choreographer, having

recently choreographed for Fame for

Take 2 Youth Theater last summer,

St. Edmond's musical, Music Man,

this spring and for Comedia's

musical Annie, this coming fall.

Adam’s parents are Gary and Brenda

Liker. His dad is a pastor of the

United Methodist Church and is

stationed at Hillcrest United

Methodist Church in

Bloomington, MN. His

mom is a Director of

Nursing at Augustana

in Apple Valley, MN.

He has one younger

brother, Aaron, who

just graduated college.

Aaron is married to a

wonderful woman,

A b b y , w h o i s

continuing to work on

her college education.

Being a pastor's kid, Adam grew up

everywhere in Minnesota, where his

dad is stationed. He was born in

Duluth, MN, then moved to Kansas

City, MO. At the beginning of third

grade his family moved to Roseau,

MN which is 6 miles south of the

Canadian border and then they lived

in Ellendale, MN, before moving to

college in Orange City, IA. Adam

ended up here, in Fort Dodge,

because of his teaching job. He

interviewed for the job he is

currently at and within 24 hours he

was hired. He says it was a

whirlwind, but completely worth it!

enjoy watching comedies and

suspenseful dramas the most. They

have two favorite playwrights,

Alfred Hitchcock and Tennessee

Williams. Ellen

likes to be

involved in the

Spotlight on Members

As part of our newsletter, the

Hawkeye board of directors is going

to include a member profile in every

edition. This month’s

member profile is Curt

and Ellen Green from

Humboldt.

T h e y h a v e b e e n

Hawkeye Community

Theatre members since

2009. Curt and Ellen

show they have ever seen at

Hawkeye is last years On Golden

Pond. They do not have suggestions

for things they would like to see

improved at Hawkeye. Curt and

Ellen do have some suggestions for

future shows though, they would like

to see The Glass Menagerie, Dixie

Swim Club, Church Basement

Ladies, or Whose Afraid of Virginia

Woolf? brought to the stage. Thanks

for your continued patronage Curt

and Ellen!

Over the past year Adam

appeared in the March

show, Fools; the July

show, Opal’s Husband;

the October show, A Little

Murder Never Hurt

Anyone, and the December

show, Babes in Toyland.

He is taking on a new role

as director for the July

show, Rabbit Hole, which

he is beyond excited for!

He hopes to continue

building the theater. This would

include making the surrounding

communities more aware of the

theater and the season’s shows. He

would also like to continue to

entertain the patrons who come see

these shows. Adam most enjoys

watching the kind of shows that

make him think, the dramatic plays.

He does enjoy a good comedy too,

but dramas that make him think are

the ones that stick with him for years.

He is excited to be a part of the board

and hopes to bring something special

to Hawkeye. He cannot wait to see

what happens!
