Executive Profile

Mark Woodburn CEO, FGD Finance

Company: FGD—Financial Group Direct, LLC

Year company was founded: 2007

Bishop Ranch Location: BR 6–2410 Camino Ramon, Suite 166

Business type: Professional accounting and finance staffing and search firm. We help our clients with temporary, interim and permanent needs.

Business approach: Investing in long-term professional relationships that are rooted in trust and integrity. It may sound cliché, but doing the right thing and being accountable really makes a difference.

Biggest challenge: Making sure that we, as a team, don’t become complacent. In our competitive industry, we have to continue to become better. We are either growing or declining and we want to grow.

Favorite tasks: Meeting with clients, assessing their needs and delivering solutions that makes their jobs easier. Each time we do this, we end up with a client that is happy to refer us to others.

Least favorite task: Handling all the paperwork that comes with running a business.

Source of inspiration: God and my family.

Best way to motivate staff: Always lead by example. Don’t ask the staff to do something that you won’t do yourself. I want to find ways for our team members to focus on doing those things that they are gifted at doing. A great book for managers and leaders is “Go Put Your Strengths to Work” by Marcus Buckingham.

Suggestions for young executives: Never give up and don’t ever let the negative critics persuade you to change your path.

A goal you still want to achieve: I would like our firm to be on the mind of every accounting and finance professional in our respective markets.

Favorite pastime: Spending time with my wife and kids.

Favorite stressbuster: Exercise. A few years ago my wife and I got hooked on P90X and it is an awesome stressbuster.

Favorite vacation spot: Palm Desert, California. There is something amazing about the dry desert heat.

Favorite music: I really enjoy music of all kinds, but my favorite is contemporary Christian music.

Favorite East Bay restaurant: Va de Vi, in Walnut Creek.

Favorite cause: Serving and giving to those who are less fortunate.
