    meet the expert

I do not envision my patient relationship as a single experience. I want to take time to fully understand their needs, so that I can provide the highest level of safety, discretion, and care. Cosmetic surgery involves a lifetime of personal attention. I largely focus on the restoration of beauty and form in a natural manner. Your decision to have surgery is an important one and should be tailored to your individual goals and needs. From the initial consult to the last postoperative visit and beyond, I want you to feel comfortable and informed with the details of each process.

A t Baptist Health, giving heartfelt thanks is easy. That is exactly what Baptist Health Foundations Heartfelt Thanks Program provides by helping patients and family members to honor their caregivers and say thank you through charitable donations. Donations honor medical staff or other departments for making their visit to Baptist Health special. Honorees receive an acknowledgment letter and a customized lapel pin that the recipient can wear proudly. Last year, families donated nearly $25,000 to honor and celebrate outstanding staff at Baptist Health. These selfless gifts to recognize Baptist Health employees are special and help to provide similar care for others.

A Baptist Health patient recently recognized an outstanding Baptist Health employee through the Heartfelt Thanks program. The patient sent a donation to the Foundation after his stay in SICU to recognize Cynthia McCrory (CT Tech). When asked for a comment on why he chose to honor McCrory the patient said he was speechless and could not put into words how thankful he was, for his care. McCrory scanned his head at least 5 times throughout the process. He simply referred to her as a wonderful person. McCrory said she felt extremely honored when she found out she was being recognized by a patient through the Heartfelt Thanks Program. I always try to relate to the patients and their families on a personal or individual level. I have been on the other side of healthcare, as a patient, and I try to remind myself how scary that can be, McCrory said. I really try to focus on making the patients comfortable and easing their fears while they are in my care. Our patients entrust us with their lives and its important for us to always remember that. Programs like these are important, and care givers can carry that message to families and patients, according to McCrory. Often patients and their families want to give something back, this program allows them to recognize care givers who have personally touched their lives, and at the same time the donations made give back to the hospital so that we can continue to provide excellent patient care, McCrory said. It is very special to have been honored, and I am grateful that I am able to make a difference in my patients lives.

Contributing to care is easy with the Heartfelt Thanks Program. For more information on the Heartfelt Thanks Program, please contact the Baptist Health Foundation Office at 501.202.1839 or visit baptist-health.com/differencemaker.

    Thanks from the Heart

A classic New Orleans dish gets a low-country make-over at Acadia, but be warned: this spicy shrimp and grits rendition is not for the faint of palate. Owner and executive chef James Hale, a 2008 James Beard Award semi-finalist, puts a unique spin on even the simplest dishes, magically transforming an ordi-nary staple like grits into a memorable mouthwatering entre. Instead of traditional Creole gravy, Hale pays homage to the cuisine of South Carolina with a peppery tomato Creole sauce ladled over cheddar cheese grits. The accompanying braised shrimp are prepared with a hint of Old Bay Seasoning, which lends a smoky, savory finish to the meal.

Having completed culinary school in New Orleans, Hale is at home

preparing this flavorful low-country cooking, which has strong paral-lels to Cajun cuisine. Hales version of shrimp and grits is served with a medley of mushrooms, zucchini and onions and is balanced with a red cabbage coleslaw.

Sample this delectable dish or any other fabulous entre on prix fixe nights and get three courses for a nominal fee.For starters, Acadia offers a tasty crawfish bread pudding with a dill sauce. Finish the meal with one of the restaurants housemade desserts, such as a current fa-vorite, vanilla bean gelato.

    HonorAble mentions

o ne of the best lasagnas youll find on the other side of the Arkansas River actually, on any side of the river is a five-layer pasta dish with a rich tomato sauce and sausage that reminds me of an Italian grandmamas cooking, found at the family-owned and oper-ated Rockys Pub in the Indian Hills Shopping Center on JFK in North Little Rock, Arkansas. While there, try Kristine Dunlaps gigantic, hand-rolled meatballs; they are a must.

Another noteworthy entre: the spinach manicotti served with perfect Pomodoro sauce found nearby in Sherwood, Ark., at another family-owned and operated eatery, Zaffinos on Keihl Avenue. Be sure to have a cup of Nori Menegaldos specialty-blend coffee and a slice of her house made tiramisu.

After visiting either one of these favorites, in the words of the late Cajun chef Justin Wilson, I guar-ran-tee you wont be disappointed.
