It was great to come back to Lajamanu; to be living with the Warlpiri people, and to do some long-needed plumbing work for Bill & Pauline Morrison, serving with Global Interaction in this community. The team consisting of Bruce & Pam, Kevin & Eira, Tom & Gaye, Mike & Melody, John & Anne and John & Joyce, had a week to fix some major leaking problems at the residence and also at the church. The extra bathroom & laundry facilities outside the house had not been used for

some time due to a major blockage somewhere in the drainage system so the men got busy digging and searching for the problem. Finally it was found and after some intense work it was repaired. Another issue was the large stagnant pool that had formed near the church building & Op Shop due to leaking drainage near an outside tap. This required investigation by our plumber John Cooper and subsequent use of an Excavator and lots of digging to form a new trench to put in new drainage and then to fill it all in again. The ladies were not needed to work on these jobs. However, Mel assisted

Bruce & Mike with the removing of tiles, wet sealing and retiling of the shower in the Ladies bathroom to alleviate the leakage problem there. The other ladies enjoyed a couple of days of free time, including morning tea with two local ladies and visiting the Art Gallery nearby, although some were getting itchy feet to start working again.

The next lot of work was in two weeks’ time so it was a long break between jobs for the ladies who were looking forward to the Painting job at Casuarina Baptist Church, Darwin. The MMM Team were very

blessed to have been able

to serve in this community.

Bruce & Pam Collard

The Indigenous church folk made the team feel very welcome and appreciated the work that we did. They presented each couple with 2 paintings and all team members were honoured by being given indigenous skin names; a privilege rarely given to cardia (non indigenous people).

Well another job bites the dust! We had only a week to try to complete 15 jobs plus a few extras found along the way. John & Joyce Blade were leading this leg of the Safari so decided to arrive a couple of days before he rest of e team just to make sure everything was ready to start on the Monday. One of the main jobs was to build a 6ft metal fence 60metres long. When we first arrived the area were the fence was to go was covered in about 6ft high grass (and small trees), and we were told by our host that there could be a possibility of snakes. Needless to say that this situation needed to be addressed before the team arrived as it certainly would have been an WH&S issues. Well before we could blink we had a bobcat arrive and Pastor Bernard cleared a good 5ft strip that gave us a clear view of where the fence was to go. Our second hurdle was that a hand post hole digger was meant to arrive first thing Monday morning but this didn't happen (mind you the boys would have hade to use a lot of energy just to try to make the holes for the fence post) but God had a better plan and we were able to access a bobcat with an auger that came in and dug the holes for us in less than two hours. How good is that: in a remote area we could access a bobcats and with an auger just when we needed it. We made great progress as the week went on; the fence completed, and two sets of table and chairs also built out of steel that was hiding in many different places. The table & chairs are so solid they should last at least 50 years! Painting a toilet and manse ceiling was next on the list, but there was a fair amount of prep work - de-scaling and mould removal amongst it. Other general repair work included roof repairs, linoleum replacement, shade cloth and re-concreting the front layback of driveway. It just amazes us how much can be achieved when you have a group of willing workers. What a great team we have on this Safari. Night time saw us sitting around a campfire indulging in Billy Tea and damper or hot spuds in the embers (thanks Coop). The final State of Origin was played during our stay at Halls Creek so a lot of good hearted banter went on for a number of days. We were certainly looked after by our hostess (Alyce) who was standing in for the Pastor Brett and his wife a Justine. Also a big thanks to Pastor Bernard and also the ladies from the congregation who provided us with a lunch. After saying our goodbyes it was off to Lajamanu! John & Joyce Blade

MMM Weekend Warriors with Esperance Youth Group Camp 2014 at Camp Wattle Grove: April 21st - 28th

On Monday the 21st of April 2014, a group of 8 leaders and 15 youth embarked on the near 700km trek to Camp Wattle Grove in Perth. We all arrived safely to Perth late afternoon. We spent the best part of 4 Days (From Tuesday to Friday) carrying out all types of maintenance work around the property. This included: finishing some tiling in the main ablution block, painting the exterior of a couple of the dorms, constructing a wall, painting 4 bedrooms and a bathroom in the caretakers home and many other jobs around the site. The youth learnt many skills and how to work together as a team with leaders helping out and overseeing these jobs. The youth all really enjoyed working

and had a lot of fun and the leaders were blown away by how well everyone just got stuck in; no complaints and doing whatever they could do to help. We also had an activity each night as a bit of a reward for everyone’s hard work. Some of these included: Ice skating, Shopping, Football, Anzac Day Service and others.

We also had devotions and prayer after breakfast each morning, which was a great time of sharing and looking at God’s Word. We focused these devotions around Serving as this was our focus and reason behind having this camp. We all had an amazing time sharing and encouraging not only with our group but others who live and help out at Camp Wattle Grove. Some leaders shared Testimonies about how God had worked in our lives and on the last evening we opened it up to any of the youth and leaders who wanted to share their

testimonies. So many shared. They opened up about their lives and struggles they have had or still have and the way that God had touched them and helped with dealing with situations in their everyday lives. This was an awesome thing to see and be involved in.

The following day our camp had to come to an end as we returned home to Esperance, but for all Youth and Leaders the camp will not be something that is forgotten in a hurry as there were so many happy times of sharing, encouraging and most importantly serving others and our Awesome God.

We all look forward to doing this again and would encourage any other groups out there to get out there and serve in this way and am sure the Lord will bless you and your group as he has with our group. By: Phil Williams (Youth Group Leader)

REACH CHRISTIAN CHURCH,LONGREACH (Report from May, 2014).

This job for Team 1, consisting of Bruce & Pam Collard (Team Leaders), Kevin & Eira Sproats and Mike & Melody Nicholls (from NZ), was at Reach Christian Church at Longreach; an AOG congregation, where a young couple, Scott and Belinda Maddrell are the Pastors.

Our initial job was to paint the existing demountable Sunday School Building inside and out which at times became quite difficult when the wind picked up … to actually blowing the paint off the paintbrush! The team achieved a good result with the painting and

then poured a slab and erected a garden shed for storage of mowers etc. on the church property. We then moved our attention to the Manse; an old Queenslander in need of repairs and renovation. Some of the gidgee piers had sunk, some had rotted off and needed replacing and the floor had to be raised in places as high as 70mm. A major water leak was repaired behind the shower which involved removal of the toilet, retiling the toilet floor and replacing the wall. With the assistance of Dave, the local carpenter, the lounge room was enlarged to incorporate part of the existing veranda and fully relined with gyprock. It was great to have Mike, an electrician, on team to do the electrical work. Kevin also replaced a lot of wooden slats at the bottom of the house and the ladies were kept busy painting them all on three sides of the house. One of the highlights of our time at Longreach was a team night out on the Kinnon & Co Sunset Cruise on the Thompson River, with campfire stew, apple pie & custard, damper, a mug of billy tea and some great bush poetry and entertainment. We were made very welcome by the church folk and had a great time of fellowship with them, with a couple of bonfire nights, a BBQ and a fishing trip for the men, who caught some “Yellowbelly” for dinner. The MMM Vic team of Ross Towns, David Graham (the new MMMer, not the former USPGA winner) and Cedric Wyndham found themselves in bayside Melbourne looking to help a local Church of Christ with the floor of their Church Hall. Despite the appearance of the floor, the guys felt it was sound enough not to have to replace, but just overlay with new floating floor. With the plan formed, the lads quickly go to work … and sure enough, within a few days, the transformation is remarkable! With the hall improved this little church can really ramp up its outreach into the local community.

MMM NSW Team St Hilda’s Anglican Church - Katoomba

St Hilda’s Anglican church in Katoomba NSW had a problem with an old roof leaking causing a moldy ceiling in the kitchen and toilets underneath. MMM was asked would we build a new roof to cover the area to stop this happening. It was nice when working in the sun, but this is winter in the Blue Mountains, so it was cold out of it. The team braving the elements were Phill and Gwen Hall, Max Coates, Greg and Robyn Jackson, Les Schwebel and Paul Barnham and completed the job in under the allotted time. We were also asked to remove a window and replace it with a new door to comply with fire regulations in the hall under the church. As the delivery of the door was later than we planned Phill, Greg and Paul worked on a Saturday to do the installation so as not to interrupt parish activities. Steve, a glazier from the church helped with the removal of the existing window and glazing the new door. Ordering the door unglazed made it a lot easier to handle. So it was great having Steve on hand. Steve’s wife Robyn was kind enough to provide morning tea and lunch for the guys so we had great support. As our scheduling only allowed for a certain amount to be achieved, we left some painting for the parish to do, which they were very ok with. Well done team and praise the Lord! Paul Barnham

As many of you may be aware, Jon Lawrence signed on as associate MMMer just prior to returning to Africa to complete some project work he has been doing these past months and years. As a builder looking to use his skills in the mission field, MMM was a great fit for Jon and we will be developing this relationship further. Here is a recent communiqué from Jon. Please enjoy what he has been up to whilst in Africa and keep him in your prayers. Prayer Points 1. Please pray that I continue to read God's word. I was given a Daily Devotional when I was back in Oz and am loving starting the day with God and finding I'm trusting him more and more. 2. I'm having some problems with my car and it's needing constant repair work. Please pray that I can have the money to fix it and that it does not inconvenience my work too much. 3. Rafael my carpenter who is planning to come to the Congo with me is waiting for his passport. Please pray that his passport will come in time for us to travel to the Congo in late August.

Zambia Classroom Project I went to build two classrooms for training pastors in Kabwe Zambia. I was meeting a team coming out from Springwood Baptist Church with Global Interaction. It was supposed to be just a small 10x5m building and they were hoping to get the

brick work up before the team and I got there. Well this was not the case. I got on site with just the floor being finished and the building being twice the expected size. Well I put the project in God's hands. We just had two weeks to do as much as we could. I was keen to get the walls up, windows in, make the truss, put the roof on, and leave with it ready to render.

God was with me over these two weeks, ☺ , though there

were some long days. We managed to get the brick walls up, windows installed, 4 doors and locks on, roof truss made and fixed and roof finished and all done in just two weeks. We finished putting the last lock on at 7pm on the last Friday night. Current Project Massangulo House I have returned to Mozambique to finish the house off in Massangulo. I have a month to finish the house and then will be travelling to the Congo around mid-August. Thanks for partnering with me in Africa. In His service Jon Lawrence
