Those Who Have Gone Before Since the last edition of MMM Team News we have said goodbye to two of our MMM team as they have been promoted to glory! As Christians we hold fast to the assurance that when we are absent from the body we are present with the Lord.

Not one of us can know when God will call us home, but we do know that if we finish the race, if we keep the faith, whenever we are ushered from this world we will be with Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven. The thief who repented on the cross next to Christ Jesus was given that assurance (Luke 23: 43). With that promise we know that those who have gone before us, who have run their race will be celebrating in “paradise” with Christ Jesus their Lord and Saviour.

Phil Manning On Sunday December 30th Phill Manning passed away suddenly in Murray Bridge South Australia. Phil & Kaye together served the Lord through the work of MMM in many locations around Australia. Phil had a heart bigger than his smile, and that is saying something! Our thoughts and prayers were with Kaye and the family over this difficult period.

MMM was represented at the funeral service in Murray Bridge by Vic/SA Man-ager Geoff Jarvis, along with Owen & Jane Bayliss, Brenton and Judy Cornish, and many of the South Australian MMM faithful.

Harry Suggate On Monday January 7th Harry Suggate passed away peacefully in Abberfield Aged Care Facility in San-dringham, Victoria. Harry was 97, and had been an MMM Volunteer from the very first meeting of MMM in August 1975. In later years Harry’s movements were restricted but he continually prayed for the volunteers, staff, and work of MMM. Occasionally attending the Head Office Prayer fellowship in Mitcham when friends could pick him up to get him here.

MMM was represented at his funeral service on Tuesday January 15th by CEO Ter-rence Baxter, along with a long list of current and former MMM staff and volun-teers. His service was a wonderful tribute to a man who served God faithfully for many, many, years.

Both of these men made significant contributions to the work of MMM which was recognised in their funeral services. As the life of our mission grows longer and longer we will experience many such occasions as these, and sad as it is to farewell

good and faithful friends who have served the Lord alongside us, we know that the reward of salvation awaits each one of us if we can continue to faithfully serve the Lord. We will miss these men, we grieve with the fami-lies at their loss, and we extend our sympathy and love to family and friends directly involved.

Monday February 4th marked another milestone for MMM Build-A-Bond. Another support project headed out the door, this one is on its way to Vanuatu (via Brisbane) for the One Saltwater Medical Clinic near Port Vila. In March a team from Melbourne, Gladstone, and Darwin will travel to Port Vila to unpack, assemble, and construct the medical clinic in a small village just to the North West of Port Vila. The team will be on-site for about two weeks. The team includes Noel Taylor, Kim Roediger, Cedrick Wyndham, Terrence Baxter, along with new volunteers Mal Bell & Carlo Giletti from the.church@1330 (Melbourne), and Jason Blockey (MMM TeamNews producer from Darwin), and Peter Norman from Gladstone in Queensland.

Pictured above is one of two shipping crates ready to go from the Mitcham base, with CEO Terrence Baxter, MMM Build-A-Bond manager Noel Taylor, and project admin Kim Roediger. This ship-ping crate weighs in at a tidy 2 tonnes. The second one was a bit smaller and a good deal lighter at 800kg. The Build-A-Bond team under the leadership of Noel Taylor has been producing the steel frames and roofing for the past 6 weeks in the Mitcham factory where Terrence and Kim constructed the two shipping crates to deliver the materials and tools for shipping to Vanuatu. We have been working to specific deadlines to ensure everything is ready and in the shipping container in Brisbane in time to make the ship date of February 15th. Also in the planning is the site preparation where the foundations and concrete slab are being completed by a team from Victory Church in Port Vila under the care of a highly skilled local builder Achim Tanga.

Pray for this team as they journey to Vanuatu on March 11th for two weeks, pray also for all the shipping to be on time and delivered and for the preparatory works to be in place before the team arrive to start work on March 12th.

NSW MMM begins the year early. The first job, at the Lutanda Christian Campsite in Mt Victoria, began in Jan-uary. It was very hot and the work was exterior painting, so we take our hats off to the volunteers who did such a great job!

Over January, Lutanda hosted some vibrant kids camps. Our grand-children attended one for a week and they came home full of enthusi-asm and inspired for the year ahead. Our 16yr old had been through a very tough time last year and the camp was invaluable in her be-coming “grounded” again. What an important ministry!

Here’s what the team leaders had to say….. “Its great to be back at this campsite, the first job of the year, in the lovely Blue Mountains. The kangaroos, birds and lizards were glad to see us back.

Painting the external walls of the dual level bedrooms involved walkways, stair handrails, balustrades and more. Then we moved on to the front of one of the many meeting rooms. We had 3 car-avans, Frank and Yvonne Wilkey, Brian and Liz Archer and Phill and Gwen Hall…..whilst in onsite accommodation we had Les and Faye Schwebel, Max and Gayle Coates and Bob and Joy Wells. It was great to have Bob and Joy back on deck after Joy’s illness. They said it was the best fun they had had in a long time.

The staff here at Lu-tanda have been won-derful to us; providing us with cold water, cold watermelon and frozen grapes on the very hot days. Lutanda’s manager has visited us twice and again was amazed at the

transformation and amount of work completed.

Thanks again to all the team…. Phill and Gwen

It only seems like yesterday, but it was back in 2017, when the first Caravan Safari made its way from the East Coast of Australia to the West. At the time the MMMWA Committee waited in expectation of a group of Volunteers that would be able to travel to a number of projects that had been put on hold because of the lack of local resources to complete them. The Safari Team accomplished more than we had dreamed of - they blessed more ministries, warmed the hearts of many and formed new friendships along the way. Their footprint of “serving those who serve” remains to this day.

Now we are eagerly looking forward to another group of MMM Volunteers make the trip across the Nullarbor. We have had 5 couples register their interest for the Caravan Safari planned for Jul-Oct 2019. Arrangements are progressing well. The list of projects will see the Caravan Safari completing projects in Vic and SA as well as WA, thus reducing the kilometres to be travelled between projects. There will be free time scheduled to allow for Volunteers to discover the beauty and wonder of the Western Australia landscape including the Wildflow-ers. Volunteers will be able to join and leave the Safari as they wish to best make use of their time or availabil-ity. We are praying for Volunteers from all states including WA so that there will be a mixture of experiences adding to the fun and fellowship. Projects will vary from City to Country Churches, Campsites, Outback and Ur-ban Christian Mission.

So if you have some time in July to October 2019 and would like to join us “Serving Those Who Serve” register your interest by con-tacting Trevor (MMMWA Region Manager) who will keep you informed as more information be-comes available.

One of the last projects for 2018 was helping a young pastor and his wife with their residence as they took up a new role in a church in south Brisbane. As both he and his wife are missionary kids, we wanted to encourage them by offering some assis-tance with their building needs. The renovations included a new kitchen, strip and replace the toilet, a fresh coat of paint throughout, window replacements, changes to some interior walls and other jobs.

The following from Daniel: Mark Cameron, (Rachel’s father) offered to do the work which quickly began to accumulate. The timing of the phone call from MMM, offering the help of John Cooper and Adrian Behrens (an experienced

cabinet maker) was nothing short of astounding. We re-ally felt it was God’s provision. Both John and Adri-an provided vital support to Mark during a critical part of the kitchen renovations. Their presence was a huge encouragement and morale boost to Mark and meant the project was able to be completed.

We are so thankful for the generous help of MMM. We see this home as a vital part of our ministry to others. We pray this home will be a blessing for many years to come.

From Missionary Kids to Ministry

Christmas Get Together On the 20th December we held a Christmas lunch at the QLD MMM centre under gaze-bos on the lawn, 55 people attended. While celebrating another successful and blessed year, Graham Kapinga acknowledged Adrian and Caren’s commitment with MMM over the last three and a half years and wished them well as they stepped down from full

time ministry. They will be missed on the team and are plan-ning to stay at the centre until another couple can be found to take their place. We also introduced Marie Ann Nelson who will be heading up the prayer minis-try in QLD which we are thrilled about. We will appreciate your prayers for an-other couple to join the QLD team full time and for Marie Ann as she encourages people to join the prayer ministry.

What a Marvellous Place to Live…… A few weeks ago, I said to myself,” I must visit all the potential work sites in South Australia and some of the Western Victorian sites as well”, so that’s what I did! Loaded up with all the gear, the Ford Ranger excelled itself as I made my way around the vastness of this region.

Churches visited were in Berri, Sherlock, Peake, Mannum, Strath-albyn, Mount Barker, Port Augusta, Adelaide, Kaniva, and Ararat. These site visits took a full week to cover, and it was very encourag-ing to all involved. Some of the newer requests for help, missed out on being involved in the upcoming Wildflower Safari, already planned for July to October this year. The newer projects requests will be included in another schedule which will be more local.

Safari volunteer places are filling, but we can you can still secure your place if you’re quick, if you want to be involved, then contact MMM Vic or MMM WA as soon as possible. As we start back for a new year of “serving those that serve,” already we have had reminders of our frailty and dependence of God, and our need to ensure we give each day to Father God. This year one of our major fo-cuses is to make contact with significant groups of people. People who may not know about MMM, or people who need to be made aware of their need to get involved. Visiting Church’s is high on the list of im-portance, so if we have not been to your church for some time, please chat with us. We will make it a priority on our church presentations list.

Have you booked in for the Annual Vic/SA Fundraising Din-ner yet? Well don’t procrastinate, or you may miss out. We have a great speaker, a great menu, and as always great fellowship at an awesome venue. Oh, and some fantastic items up for auction.

This year will be a little different to last year, so book your tickets soon, its on Saturday 23rd March. Visit the MMM web site where you can secure your place by paying with your credit card on the ‘Donate’ page. Tickets $ 35 each or $ 280 for a table of 8.

As I sit here and write this article, I don’t know who you, the reader, are. You might be a long-time supporter of the work of MMM, a volunteer or a prayer, you might have joined in a project years ago but never got around to doing another one, you might be reading a “TeamNews” for the first time and wondering what MMM is all about.

In January, we ran a week’s work project at Riverbend Youth Centre in Smithton. We had sixteen volunteers from 18 to over 81, four who had never been on a pro-ject before and four who had been on so many projects over the last four decades we couldn’t count them. We had a couple with a caravan, grandfathers and a grandson, guys with their sleeping bags and couples who needed accommodation. We had tradies and helpers, skilled and not so skilled but whoever we were and wherever we’d come from, we were there for the same purpose – to help out in a practical way, to meet a need so that others could get on with their calling and serve where God had placed them.

This is some of what the team had to say: “The best aspects of being on a project are helping out where there’s a need and the friendships you build within the team.” “I like to be able to help people. I didn’t know if there would be anything I could do but I found things to do all the time, just to help and make it easier for the guys doing the work.” “I heard of the need, I knew I could help, so I volunteered. I would definitely do it again.” “It’s great fun working with the old blokes; you can learn so much from them.” “I love to hear of how the young people that come to the camps here are blessed and know that we’ve been a part of that.” “I had a fabulous time enjoying the fellowship while working.” “It didn’t feel like work. We were just having a good time together, enjoying each other’s company and plenty of food!” “We were blessed in helping them as they provided us with accommodation and

food.” “Why am I still here, at my age, when I’ve already done so much? Read Ro-mans 12 : 1 - 12.”

Please, take the time to do what Jack says and read Romans 12 (I love it in

the New Living Translation). It might remind you why you’re doing what you’re doing or it might chal-lenge you to do things differently!! Ruth

Slip Sliding Away…… We hope not!

Partnerships is what MMM Thailand projects are all about, sometimes with Mission organisations on their facilities and sometime with Missions teams to help someone in need. In late January this year we visited beautiful Doi Chang village in the mountains of Chiang Rai province here in northern Thailand too work on a project where the home of an elderly lady was in dan-ger of sliding down the steep hill. MMM project manager Pedro looked at the site last year and worked out how to remedy the sagging re-taining wall. MMM admin manager Paita co-ordinated a team from YWAM in Chiang Rai to visit and help out with the hard labour of moving existing concrete, dirt, aggregate, and new concrete. Between the YWAM Team and the MMM Staff the slide down the hill was arrested, the house saved, and one dear old grandma very happy! The Pictures tell it all.

MMMPRAYERNews

Prayer is the most important thing you can do, it’s also the most powerful thing you can do. We can and should never underestimate the impact prayer can have on our daily walk with Christ.

I grew up in a Christian home, my mother faithfully brought all three of us children to church every week, where eventually each one of us made a decision to follow Christ. There is one thing I know for sure, it wasn’t just being in church that influenced us to follow Christ, my mother prayed for us every single day. My father had made a decision for Christ as a teenager, a decision that stayed with him all his life. My mother prayed for the whole family…. EVERY DAY!

It wasn’t until I was twenty two years old that I met up with my old Sun-day school teacher (Mrs Wallace), I drove my mum down to visit her and when we walked in to see her in her Sandringham home she told me that she had prayed for me every day since I was in her Sunday school class. She continued to pray for me every day until when I was twenty six she went home to see Jesus face to face. If you can pray in Heaven, then I know she has continued to pray for me. Likewise with my mum, she con-tinued to pray for me until her passing.

When I was ordained as a Pastor in my local church, a faithful prayer warrior from our church came to me and said she was taking on the role as personal prayer warrior for me in my ministry, something she continued until two days before I started here at MMM when she passed away suddenly. The day I started the most wonderful gift was given to me by my now good friend Jane Bayliss, she came to me and told me that she had been praying for me, and that God had lead here to be my personal prayer support.

I’m not sure where I would be today if these faithful people had not prayed con-tinually for me. It takes dedication, commitment, and discipline, but I am so glad that they did!

So when I say that the most important thing, the most powerful thing you can do is pray, I mean that we should have confidence in God that He will hear our pray-er and answer according to His purpose and will.

I have asked Helen Bell (National Prayer co-ordinator) to organise a National Day of Prayer for the work, and the needs of MMM. Will you commit to pray with us through that day? It will be on a Sunday, and we are asking if you can ask your home church to pray for us in their service on that day. I know that when we pray God does ex-traordinary things!

Helen will be contacting everyone soon to advise the date for the day of prayer, don’t wait for that day to come before you start praying… pray now, pray every day!

Blessings Terrence Baxter

Thes: 5:17-18 “pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.“

The Most Important Thing You Can Do!
