Weekend Information for Pet OwnersWith the weather getting warmer, more people are walking their dogs or letting their dogs run in the yard. Here are a few things for pet owners to remember.
1. There is no animal control on the weekends in the Horseshoe Bend area.2. We need to be respectful to neighbors and limit long periods of barking.3. Please make sure your dog has a collar on with an ID tag.4. Your dog needs to be on a leash or in your yard.
Accidents do happen and dogs can easily get away from their owners. If the dog has an ID tag with a current phone number, our weekend Owners’ Services representative will be happy to call the owner if the dog is seen wandering unattended. If we all work together, we can keep our furry friends safe and happy!!

We have survived the cold winter. Now you can get excited to prepare your house for SPRING and SUMMER! Here is a checklist of ideas:
üIs my trash enclosure in need of repair: door missing or damaged, door hinges need replacing, missing or damaged siding, wobbly posts, large enough for all containers, tall enough to cover container, clean of mold and moss, or fresh paint?
üIs my landscaping in need of a facelift: trimming bushes, removing dead bushes, weed-eating, keeping up with mowing the grass (keep grass mowed to under 6 inches), killing or pulling weeds, burning leaves, remove fallen trees, ditch rows kept clean of debris, free of general debris around property, cutting down dead trees which requires a permit from ACC?
üDo I need to find a landscape company to help me maintain my yard?üDoes my house need a fresh coat of paint? üAre there siding pieces that need repair or any general upkeep of the home and property?
Winter is over and spring is almost here, which we are all glad to see. As spring approaches, so do the chances of severe weather. With that in mind, please remember to keep an eye on the weather and have some supplies on hand. This could include flashlights, weather radio and batteries for those devices. Also, remember you can go to FEMA’s website, www.ready.gov to get additional information on how to prepare for severe weather. The fire district also provides a texting service that is free to sign up for that will send you text messages when weather warnings are issued. You can go to our website, www.lofpd.com to get more information for this service. Standard text messaging rates apply from your cell phone carrier.
If you have any questions or issues you would like to talk to me, you can contact me at the district office at 573-365-3380 or by email at [email protected].

Fire District Update
Spring is finally upon us and while we all welcome the warmer temperatures that come as a result, we must also be aware of the rainy weather that usually accompanies them and the effect it can have on your wastewater treatment system. It is with this in mind that we would like to stress the importance of keeping the lids to your wastewater treatment system exposed and accessible. If the lid or lids to your system (depending on the type you have) are not exposed then the run-off caused by heavy rains can enter the system. What this means for homes with grinder pump systems is that the pump may have to run more frequently as the run-off enters the tank, possibly shortening the life of the motor. For homes with on-site treatment systems this means the drain field may become saturated more quickly as run-off enters the tank increasing the load on the system, possibly causing the drain field to fail. Both of these situations can result in costly repair bills. To avoid these problems, we recommend that lids be exposed at least 6 inches from the top of the lid on grinder pump systems and at least 6 inches from the bottom edge of the concrete lids for on-site systems. If you have any questions about this subject or about your wastewater treatment system in general, please call the Wastewater Department at (573) 552-8334.
