Although I am unable to take part in this week’s event as I am in Darwin for meetings, I’d like to thank the teachers who are taking part and also Ms Jenine Williams for organising. The objectives of the event are To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour. To promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age. To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road. To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians. To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults. To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles. To reduce the level of traffic congestion. Staff will be at designated areas (see advert) to accompany the children to school. Please ensure that your child knows how he/she is returning home. Donation Last week we had a wonderful whole school assembly with many parents in attendance. Our Sports Captains and SRC were presented to the school community and we were entertained by Transition Larsen who did a wonderful job. Another highlight was an unexpected and generous donation from the East Arnhem Blues Society. Lawrence Walker presented NPS with a $3000 cheque for the Learning Centre. I would like to thank the East Arnhem Blues Society for their considerate donation and assure them it will be well spent to improve the programs and resources for the students. Thanks again!. Simultaneous Storytime On Wednesday many children participated in the Simultaneous Storytime: an annual campaign that aims to encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books. Children across Australia read a story and have fun using an Australian children’s book. This years featured book was Data Collection Nationally Consistent Data for Students with Disability: Teachers are compiling information for the Nationally Consistent Data for Students with Disability and may ask you to sign a permission form. The information that teachers are collecting is for any child in their class who require adjustments to the learning program. The teacher may have spoken to you about their concerns during the year; the data they are collecting is for any child who requires adjustments in: Social/emotional, physical, cognitive or sensory areas of learning. Assistant Principals Greeting

Walk Safely to School Day

This Friday is Walk Safely to School Day. Although I

am unable to take part in this week’s event as I am in

Darwin for meetings, I’d like to thank the teachers

who are taking part and also Ms Jenine Williams for

organising. The objectives of the event are

To encourage parents and carers to walk to

school with primary school age children and

reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.

To promote the health benefits of walking and

Parent Group On Thursday mornings some parents are interested in setting up a parent group for parents to meet new people and develop friendships. If your child is aged between 8 and 12 years old and is

thinking about learning to play an instrument or

simply loves expressing themselves, help them

embrace a lifestyle of collaboration and creativity by

sending them along to GarageMusic School.

GarageMusic School will be hosting a 2 day

collaborative music workshop on the 24th and 25th of

May run by a registered, experienced classroom

teacher. Children will experiment with instruments

and applications on ipads in a safe and encouraging

environment where they can build their confidence.

They will learn some basic concepts about music

recording, engineering and song writing.
