Assistant Principals Greeting
Walk Safely to School Day
This Friday is Walk Safely to School Day. Although I
am unable to take part in this week’s event as I am in
Darwin for meetings, I’d like to thank the teachers
who are taking part and also Ms Jenine Williams for
organising. The objectives of the event are
To encourage parents and carers to walk to
school with primary school age children and
reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
To promote the health benefits of walking and
help create regular walking habits at an early
age.
To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold
an adult's hand when crossing the road.
To help children develop the vital road-crossing
skills they will need as they become mature
pedestrians.
To reduce the car dependency habits that are
being created at an early age and which will be
difficult to change as children become adults.
To reduce the level of air pollution created by
motor vehicles.
To reduce the level of traffic congestion.
Staff will be at designated areas (see advert) to
accompany the children to school. Please ensure that
your child knows how he/she is returning home.
Donation
Last week we had a wonderful whole school assembly
with many parents in attendance. Our Sports Captains
and SRC were presented to the school community and
we were entertained by Transition Larsen who did a
wonderful job. Another highlight was an unexpected
and generous donation from the East Arnhem Blues
Society. Lawrence Walker presented NPS with a
$3000 cheque for the Learning Centre. I would like to
thank the East Arnhem Blues Society for their
considerate donation and assure them it will be well
spent to improve the programs and resources for the
students. Thanks again!.
Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday many children participated in the
Simultaneous Storytime: an annual campaign that aims
to encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books.
Children across Australia read a story and have fun
using an Australian children’s book. This years featured
book was
