A Gospel Reflection

Face Your Tough Choices One day a few years back, during a trip to Israel, I sat on the Mount of Olives, looking across the valley at Jerusalem, wondering what Jesus thought on that Palm Sunday, two thousand years ago, as he sat on the Mount of Olives. He must have known that although many people would cheer him when he entered the city, the authorities would eventually arrest him. He must have known that death waited for him across that valley. And yet, he also must have known that he couldn’t live with integrity without proclaiming his message in Jerusalem, the home of religious and political leaders who had corrupted God’s message of hope and peace. Regardless, the Gospels tell us that one day, he decided to cross that valley and enter Jerusalem. You know the rest of the story. How about you? What decisions face you that call for sacrifice and courage? Do you have friends whose destructive behaviour you should challenge? Are there people at school or work you should stick up for? Are there broken relationships you’re afraid to repair? Holy Week is the time to face those decisions. Watch Holy Thursday as Jesus shows you how to drop your pride and put others first. Don’t miss Good Friday, where he courageously suffers and dies for what he believes. Celebrate Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, where his Resurrection provides proof that death, violence, and fear have no ultimate power. Pray about your hard decisions as you watch Jesus make his. Parish Lenten Activities

Like many of her neighbours in her coastal village in the Philippines, Aloma feared for her family’s safety as extreme weather battered their home and environment. But her participation in the Caritas supported Integrated Community Development Program has offered her a leading role in helping her vulnerable community prepare for extreme weather events and work together to protect their environment. Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and help vulnerable communities in the Philippines learn how to work together to care for their common home, creating a more secure environment and a more secure future for their children.

The annual collection for the support of the Church in the Holy Land takes place on Good Friday. This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres throughout the Holy Land also rely on assistance from good Friday collection. The collection is also used to maintain 74 churches and shrines associated with the life of Jesus. Last year, Australian Catholics donated $1.4 million to this cause, despite tough economics times, rural droughts and increasing cost of living which put a strain of family budgets and financial resources. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land again on this Good Friday. Please also pray that peace and harmony will become reality in the birthplace of Jesus, the ‘Prince of Peace’.

Rosters

We have prepared the rosters for April. As this is a big month liturgically starting with Palm Sunday on 9 April and concluding with the Easter ceremonies the following weekend, we need your help with all the Ministries. Please let the Parish office know if you are not going to be here during the month of April otherwise we will consider that you will be available for Ministry during April and liturgies on Holy Thursday evening, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Masses on Sunday. The Rosters for Holy Week will be prepared with this assumption in mind. We will however need extra help with setting up the Church etc and will provide further details in next week's newsletter. Please email the Parish Office - [email protected] if you are not available during April or if you have any questions.

Want to keep up with what is happening in our Parish? Visit our website: www.holyspiritgungahlin.org.au Find us on Facebook: Holy Spirit Catholic Parish Gungahlin

Let us rejoice on this day, Palm Sunday, when the Lord entered the royal city of Jerusalem with his

disciples in triumphant procession. The Church calls it Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, for his real triumph is over sin, suffering and death. The Living Word

Praying Rosary and Litany Are you interested in praying the Rosary and the Litany on a week day, about noon, with a small group, in the Church?
