Thank you for your generous stewardship!

Health Ministry: We Take It for Granted - W A T E R After experiencing the excessive rainfall of Hurricane Irma, many may not currently be able to appreciate the importance of water. We can live a month without food, but only a week without water. Our bodies are 70% water, our blood 90%! Of the water on our planet 98% is not usable because of the salt. Of the 2% left, much of it is locked up in polar ice and glaciers, which means less than 1% of earth's water is drinkable! Water is no magic bullet and yet it is necessary to transport nutrients and remove waste, to energize muscles, to regulate body temperature and the list goes on because every cell in our bodies require water to function. Because we lose water through breathing, sweating and digestion, it's important to re-hydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. WebMD/Med News Today/Quote

Children’s Worship Bulletins When children are given a bulletin of their own each week, they know that worship is for them too! These free Children’s Worship Bulletins are available in two age groups: 3 to 6 and 7 to 12.

Introductions to Sunday Readings by Bishop Ken Untener, in collaboration with Catherine Haven and Fr. Bill Taylor

First Reading - Sirach 27:30—28:7 The book of Sirach was written buy a wise teacher who lived 200 years before Christ. Sirach ran a school for young people in Jerusalem. In today’s section, he teaches his students the importance of forgiveness.

Second Reading - Romans 14:7-9 After dealing with the controversies which divided the early Christian community in Rome, Paul wrote about the need for tolerance and for sensitivity to the feelings of others. In today’s passage, he points out that this affects our use of the gift of freedom.

TRADITIONAL VALUES. EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION. St. John XXIII represents 150 years of Catholic Education dedicated to encouraging and developing well-rounded, self-confident and compassionate children and young adults who lead successful, mindful, service-driven lives. Our school community is the foundation on which our core principles of faith and hard work bind us together as a family.

If you are interested in a Catholic education that provides a challenging, structured and thoughtful learn-ing environment led by highly qualified and experienced teachers, contact Principal Dawn Pickerill at 424-1196 for a meeting and a tour of the school.

STEAK FRY AND PARISH PICNIC RECAP Thank you to all who attended the Athletic Board Steak Dinner and Parish Picnic this past weekend. We are happy to host both events and share our wonderful campus with you. Profits from the dinner will go towards re-coating the floor and other upgrades to the gym. Special thanks to the many sponsors and local businesses who supported this event. Your generosity goes a long way in ensuring we have the best athletic program and facilities!!

SCRIP Due to a series of events out of our control, we have changed our SCRIP program. For those unfamiliar with the program, St. John XXIII Catholic School sells gift cards to a variety of establishments from grocery stores, to restaurants, to gas stations. You pay face value for the cards and we receive a percentage of the sale. Some cards are kept in stock, however, the amount that we are able to keep in stock has decreased. We will be placing orders on the first and third Tuesday’s of each month. If you give us an order on Tuesday, gift cards will be available for pick-up on Friday. Mrs. Pickerill or Mrs. Fairbanks will be available after Mass to help with the order process. Many of the cards are “reloadable,” and we will be more than happy to provide guidance on how to do this as well. All it takes is a little preplanning and the benefits to the school are immense. Please call the school office 424-1196 if you have any questions.
